Yes...It's too bad they don't just let the inmates keep them. The dogs need homes and the inmates have learned to love and be responsible for something.

Love these inspirational cell dogs with their inmate(dog handlers). These dogs bring put emotions that the inmates may never had and vise versa.

Having been in prison,I know how hard it is to say goodbye to to other inmates. I can't imagine having to say goodbye to a pet in prison that I have raised and taken care of,formed a partnership,a bond with.

I work for a cat training program for people whit disabilities But I don't think they would have patience to train cats

This is the BEST program in the DOC, I've seen the inmate handlers that do this in Mt Pleasant in NC, they;re a different breed of inmate...much more calmer and relaxed an inmate...honestly IMHO, ALL inmates should be involved, you'd have alot less problems in prisons

This type of program should be in every prison, it saves animals plus gives the inmates a chance to give back. Too many animals are put down every day, now that can change, I honestly feel it changes the inmates also. Love and respect is exchanged and that is how it should be.

It's a bit sad to think that the dogs will move on at the end of their time and back to the animal shelter. Both the prisoners and the dogs will miss each other. Hope the dogs find permanent homes after this.

Actually - letting them keep the dogs probably would be the best option. If you're looking to decrease stress and make people less likely to cause problems in the prisons, giving them someone to care about then TAKING THEM AWAY does not seem like the best way. Sounds like a pretty good way to add heartbreak to injury.

The whole purpose of the program is to save and train as many dogs as possible. The inmates by training and retraining different dogs will give them a sense of pride and purpose and the best way ever to give back...just filling the jail with pets would not be the answer.

It would be fantastic to let the men keep the dogs too, healthy for both of them. When the men are released they also will then have the support of their dog friend. and more motivation to live a highly productive, happy life. Gosh I don't like the uniforms they all must wear in some prisons, they are dehumanizing.

Some dogs should be able to stay in prison permanently, they’ll be very well protected as seen from the incredible love they get from inmates
