These pups aren't pets - they're rescue dogs training to become service animals. And the trainers? They're the inmates. Check your local listings at CrimeWatchDaily.com.

We need this program at every prison so that there won't be a shortage of service dogs for those who need one. I have several patients who either need one or will need one, yet don't have the money to purchase a trained service dog and the waitlist for a donated service dog is long. Please support Prison Pet Partnerships in your area and contact your local prison and advocate for them to start one. Also, volunteer to help these programs, including becoming a foster family for transitioning service and paroled dogs.

Mariel Kraus It’s an awesome program, it should be done in every prison.

Denise seems like such a wonderful person. She picked inmates because she could help them, not because she's making money off them... I hope she keeps doing that

All prisons need to have training programs like this. They also need to have gardens to tend to and grow their food.

Great idea. The guys learn compassion and responsibility. The dogs don't care and both have nothing but time. Every prison should do this. The cost - a fence and door - usually material is donated and they guys do the work. I don't see a down side at all!!

I remember learning about this program a few years ago and thinking how great it was until recently seeing that one of the poor dogs had been killed in one of the inmates cells! Glad it's not operating anymore, the most trusting and beautiful of creatures are too precious to be around violent criminals.

Annabel Hughes What? No! This program was doing so much good! That’s like saying we aught to shut down hospitals because one doctor murdered a patient there! Gosh! Mind you, what that one guy did to that poor dog is without a doubt horrendous and worthy of punishment, punishment on THAT bad man, not the program! Shutting down that program is a horrible loss! Not just to the hundreds of thousands of cats and dogs that were being given a second chance at life, but also to the prison inmates that really do want to change for the better! They are people too! Not only that, but the program was helping society as a whole too. Why take away such a positive, life-changing, helpful system? It’s no better than outlawing medicine because one idiot decided to abuse it! Punish the idiot, not the program.

Have you even fact checked that case. I could have been a story produced by some pervert outside the program. Please, call the prison director and ask about the case and about what happened then.

Looked into it on Google. Can’t find any coverage of such an incident for this prison. They are still training dogs as of 2022, which is after you’ve posted this comment,

I found the incident you mean. It isn’t this program or prison. It was the Warren Correctional Facility.
