In the winter people salt their sidewalks and the streets also get salted when it snows, salt is dangerous to dogs pads, it can make them crack and bleed. Not to mention that dogs can get sick if they lick their paws after having walked on rock salt.

Oh, good grief, here we go again. This isn't animal cruelty, this is animal protection. When temperatures are freezing and the ground is frozen, not only can they get frostbitten paws, but the salt and various other chemicals that are sprayed on the roads and sidewalks will cause chemical burns. Remember the idiots who did the salt and ice challenge a couple of years ago and chemical burned the crap out of their skin? That's what will happen to uncovered paws in the ice and snow. Plus, if they walk on that stuff and then come inside and lick their paws, it will poison them. And then in hotter climates, road and sidewalk temperatures can reach up to 150°, which will burn and blister their paws. So the shoes are for their own health and protection. They only dance around like that when they first start to wear them because it's something new and confusing to them. After wearing them a few times to get used to them, they figure it out and they understand, so they walk normally.
