It's likely Mike has had shouting fits of frustration and some flailing when he had brain tumor/post-stroke (or maybe DURING the stroke if Ted witnessed it.) due to inability to move and that scared Ted. I don't think Ted has very sharp vision anymore for more than movement per se. All he sees is one side has the cane (which isn't new to him) and seems sort of OK, but the other side moves scary-bad. I bet he was OK when Mike was still in a wheelchair, just leery. I do agree 100% re the Frenchies being victims of bad, overly indulgent and inconsistent "Little dog owner" ownership. The breed is already challenging and being coddled when they act out has reinforced it into a nightmare.

All it takes is one incident to create fear. Then it can take a lifetime to try an overcome it. I really hope these guys sorted out their issues. The humans seemed incredibly soft on Ted when he was being very naughty. There's always more to the story... I have another dog who owns me too, so I get it. I'm grateful that as psycho as she has been, I've let her know she can't behave like that or there's a consequence. I've never hurt her, just not given in to her demands. My thoughts exactly. A person's body chemistry and odor can change with cancer. Some dogs can even smell cancer on a person. So he smelled like a stranger and had a stick and here he is in my house and no Mike to protect Ted and Pat from the stranger. I'd have given Mike some clothes he had not worn since before the cancer treatment if possible, something or things with his scent on them for Mike to wear or hold. His pillow from his bed, for example. So the dog could connect Mike's pre-illness smell with his post-illness smell.

You DON'T train a dog not to growl or reprimand them for doing so. A growl is very useful. It's a warning. Dogs need to be able to growl so we can read their behaviour. @@beepbopboop7727 Yes you can train out aggressive behaviour but a dog shouldn't be taught that growling is wrong. Growling is a form of communication and is useful for all sorts of situations. Plus all the training in the world is never a guarantee so you don't want a dog that decides to go straight to a bite when a kid is annoying him rather than at least giving a warning growl first. Obedience training is far more effective than reprimanding a dog for undesirable behaviours. For example, dogs bark but you don't want them to bark endlessly. So training would involve allowing a dog to bark at a stimuli a couple of times but to stop barking when you give the command. Teaching a dog that barking in itself is wrong means they won't bark in a situation where you might actually want them to, like an intruder trying to access your property.

Regarding the situation with Teddy. I don't think that it's necessarily the change in Mike since he returned from hospital, but maybe the stick that he is having to use. Maybe Teddy has developed a negative association with the stick? It would be interesting to know if the couple have had Teddy from a puppy or did he have a previous owner or was he a rescue dog? If he has been owned by others previously, he may have been taunted or even hit with a stick which would explain his negative association with it? I felt a bit uncomfortable watching the part where they used the can of compressed air, especially when they attached it to the walking stick, because I just thought that it might further increase Teddy's anxiety about the stick but it seems to have worked quite well and hopefully this continues to work. I genuinely think though, that it's the stick, and not Mike, that Teddy is reacting to.

It’s amazing to me that these people pet bruce and coddle him through all his bad behaviour. Why is it’s that owners of small dogs give them no training and consequences for bad behaviour. He not in distress he’s just a bully and they have allowed it.

It's good to have dogs before having babies because they exactly show which kind of parent you're gonna be and how to fix your parenting behaviour flaws The woman has to change her behaviour before having children because this will be the exact problem with future children, too

I don’t do the same techniques as this dude and I do the Cesar Milan method and my dogs are PERFECT.. HAPPY.. STABLE AND PERFECT.. Cesar’s methods are soft, quiet and perfect.. and although I was born with dogs.. and showed and bred dogs for decades.. I already trained dogs but changed a few things and now it’s amazing .. I know dogs body language and the control I have is amazing.. my dogs are 70KG.. so big, when someone is at the fence they ram the fence etc.. but the second I go outside they immediately come to me.. without a word.. and relax but of course are still alert.. but they know I’m the pack leader and take their cues from me.. imagine 3 dogs immediately stopping barking and relaxing when mums around.. 😂 Dogs are not human and it’s cruel to put human emotions onto dogs because they end up exactly like we see here.. UNHAPPY, STRESSED, UNSTABLE AND RIDICULOUS.. all because people treat dogs like humans.. it’s CRUEL.. and if people actually loved their dogs they would want their dogs happy.. SO STOP THE BABY TALK, STOP PRAISING DOGS.. ACTUALLY STOP TALKING SO DAMN MUCH.. especially when you are trying to rehabilitate an unstable dog.. respect dogs for being dogs and learn how to be responsible dog parents.. if people want happy dogs..

I really dont get how people still want to get French bull dogs as a pet, the information is there, they have health problems and often neurotic issues
@justaperson465616 күн бұрын
There are reputable breeders though who are working health issues out of the breed. There's a lot of those types of breeders, but with frenchies specifically, there's a program for lengthening their muzzle

I have an 11 yo Shitzu Maltese who just started doing this when I get up to go the bathroom in the morning. I have 3 dogs and they all sleep in large crates in my bedroom at night. Now he has started throwing a fit. Totally annoying why I am trying to go to the bathroom.

@lauraw.700810 ай бұрын
@camartinwv at 11 yo, there may be a health cause. My 16yo doxy-mix has started taking himself to the bedroom, and barking insistently to get me to come to bed. If it’s close to bedtime, fine. But I’m not going to bed at 7:00 pm. He gets picked up & brought back into living room. His hearing & vision are mostly gone. I asked vet, in Kobe’s case he said may just be getting older, and doggy dementia could be setting in. Or his arthritis pain meds may also be making him want to sleep more. Does your older dog need to go to the bathroom urgently?

Many dog owners don't understand that dogs are pack animals. They always need to know who is the leader and who is above them in the hierarchy - namely every human family member. If this is not clear, the dog occupies a higher position in the pack than the human and starts to threaten family members.

Those terriers🙈. I rescued an elderly guy. My first terrier. Cairn mix as far as I can tell. he looks a great deal like Ted lol. Actually my first little dog. I’ve always had Setters, Shepards , etc. Big dogs. This guy? Holy moly. I’ve had many (many) dogs. This lil dude? Stubborn omg little guys. You seriously have to be FIRM. Not mean to them. He’s actually quite the gentleman, at home, but not when we go on a walk? Then he’s the Hound of the Baskervilles. First dog I’ve had had to use a leash on, even. Oh well. I don’t mind walking him at 5 am so I don’t meet others🙄😩 lol. Yeah, I really do, lol. Oh well. 🤷♀️ I really give it to these people who work so hard to give these animals a home. Bless them🙏

I think dogs have a better intuition than us, I think Teddy was trying to tell his dad not to do so much, he was frightened he might lose him completely!

Attacking is not how dogs protect. If he was acting in a protective way, he'd try to block Mike walking or stay by his side. Anthropomorphizing dogs is part of what makes a useless dog owner.

If Ted is a rescue, he might have some trauma issues. I watched a youtube video a while ago and this dog would wake up screaming because of being abused. They tried everything to help him. Finally they tried blue light therapy and for once the dog got a good night sleep. Maybe a blue light would help??
@themermaidstale50086 ай бұрын
It doesn’t seem that Ted was a rescue dog. He’d been a loving family pet to both of them for years. His behavior changed when Mike changed after the surgery and hospital stay.
