We have one. Freddie is so awesome! He doesn't bark very much. He is always smiling. He loves snow. He is a picky eater. He loves attention. He sleeps on our balcony even if its -20 C outside. He refuses sleep inside. Stubborn. He is just generally one of the best dogs I've come across.

I remember seeing a Lapphund get groomed. The groomer saw the breed for the first time and called it a "giant Pomeranian".

A Lapphund should not look like a "giant Pomeranian". There's something very wrong with the direction of the breeding if that is the case - mainly people dismissing the fact that these dogs should be able to heard reindeer. A giant fur ball is a huge no-no in a job like that. Grooming Lapphunds for dog shows is also prohibited in its native country.

Great video and really captures the key characteristics of this wonderful breed. Our Finnish Lapphund is 6 years old and is the most fantastic addition to our family.

My lapphund Leilah, is an angel. So sweet and affectionate, but a fierce protector and can climb a nearly vertical wall with a bound. I'm impressed by her intelligence and temperament every day.

I've an old all black lappie we got from one of the first breeders in denmark (where we also got my grandmother's dogs from). he's now 11 years old, only has grey around his eyes and snout, otherwise still all black and every night at 8pm it's play time as if he was 2 years old again. he's a delightful dog, that is very attached to my parents, likely to stand 1 m behind then when they come home and he prefers to lie on the cold floor compared to our very large standard doxie, that resides in front of the fireplace or burrowed inside of blankets. one thing i always notice when i walk my old man, is how quickly he sits down and starts to whine when he sees a child, even a toddler can pet him safely and he'll be licking their hands and kissing their faces. with other dogs he's interested ... for a while and then it's just chilling out time. he has a white samoyed girlfriend that he always says hi to when we pass her on their walks. one thing in the video i noticed abt the fur is you said daily brushing? that seems excessive in their adult years, as it will then make them develop a bigger tendency to sheed and lose density of their fur. biweekly is better, as it still allows the fur to be there for whatever weather is good (laying on the snow or ice cold storms preferably haha) and get rid of any mats. one thing some lappies can develop (as well as other dogs) is infection of the mucosa. for the hips i can recommend taking the dog for a dog chiropractor (yes they exist and they work if they know the race and dog movement well). sry for the long comment, but i'm very passionate about lappies and doxies (as well as newfies, since i grew up w a dog constantly around me + big powerful dogs that were the sweetest lapdogs no matter their size) so it comes flying out hah. Great video, always happy to see more ppl find out abt this absolute wonderful breed.

Hey :) I am a dane also, and we are talking about the finnish lapphund. When you say biweekly, do you then mean every two weeks or twice a week? Biweekly Can mean both.

The best cold climate dogs. they are friendly, playful but not too ADHD like huskies. Their barking is nothing compared to huskies. atleast finnish lapphunds stop when you give them attention :D

These dogs can do and be just about anything. They go with the wibe. Seems it's not afraid of heights, tight places, water. Very "foxy" dog, only not nearly as irritating as a fox and wayy more trainable. It will be your friend.

I think Finnish breeds in general are like this, suitable for multiple situations. 🤔 Our horses are similar, have insane pulling strength but also quite fast on the race track. And very gentle, mild mannered of course.

My lapppie is nearly 13, she has been an amazing family dog, just a year old when I had my son and she has always been great with him, she doesn’t bark much, only when I’m making her dinner and she has always loved chasing squirrels!! Very adaptable too, happy to walk for hours a day or just a trot round the garden if no time

DONT get lapphund in warm climate! Really the dog will suffer!
Contrary to populr belief, these dogs actually do vewry wel lin a hot climate because of their double coat system. basically, it just recycles fresh air. not only that but since dogs dont sweat its even better.
