Your channel is by far the best on KZbin when it comes to nail care!!! It feels like attending a Harvard class of nails. To the point, knowledgable, informative, and a whole lot of other positive adjectives. And I love that you talk about chemicals in an informed way instead of the fashionable mainstream way which annoys me to bits. You should not worry about us having to watch ads. The knowledge you share is worth it. Thank you so much for sharing!!!!

Orly Bonder is my favorite base coat, I discovered it back in 2010 and I have used it ever since. I use the Seche Vite topcoat, and that combo makes regular polish last for at least a week on me, no matter what color polish I’m wearing- the cheap dollar store polish to the expensive Chanel and YSL. Also you can buy a large Bonder refill which keeps it working nicely, just top off the bottle once it gets about halfway empty. Same with SV actually, I buy the refill bottle and top it off and it stays smooth like a new bottle every time.

Thanks to you I am using oil on my nails and cuticles a few times a day and it is helping so much. No more cutting cuticles for me! I am growing out my nails now & in repair mode after acrylic nails!

I would love to see a video on toe nail care. I spent the last 2-3 years growing out my big toe nail. It always gets to a certain point and I end up breaking it again. It’s now at the longest I’ve had it in years and I’m hoping to get it to the home stretch (aka past the worry about an ingrown nail corners).

I love Orly products! I’ve used them for a few years now as well as some Pacifica products and have had good luck with them! I have not used Polishield but I do like using Nail Defense. The Bonder is my fav basecoat as I’ve never experienced yellowing or anything of the sort. The breathable treatment and color is some of my fav polishes as well!

Orly bonder is the first polish that makes polish stay on my nails for more than just a day. My only Problem is that Orly is not available in my country. 😭 I can either pay 15€ shipping or buy it from Amazon, which I try to avoid as much as possible. But I recently found a small bottle at TJ Max! I was so happy that day 😂

Mr. Salon Life, I love toe socks! I love getting a bit of toe-spreading without actually having to wear a toe-spreader. I'm totally committed to minimalist shoes, so it feels like two steps backwards to put on conventional socks. I personally just like listening to you guys banter and responding to chat. I also like to do my nails while I watch/listen. I was actually removing that exact Orly polish and planning to apply Essie Chinchilly, but the Orly looked so nice on Anna I decided to just reapply it (also it was getting late and Chinchilly never plays nice with Seche Vite). I was trying to decide today between two nearly-identical Essie colors, one in the regular formula and one Expressie - good to know which one I'll grab next time!

Your nails are absolutely gorgeous. I am trying to grow my nails out a bit. They recently all got to about 1/8 th of an inch long, I was thrilled, kept them polished, then blip, blip, blip, one after the other, they started to weaken and peel, so I had to file them all down to the same length and start all over. They tend to be really dry, because I have to wash hands multiple times a day and usually do not put oil or lotion right after (since I will be washing hands again in a couple of hours), but I realize how easy it is to just add a wee bit of oil to the fingertips. I had also been taking all sorts of supplements, hoping that would help nails grow; perhaps it IS helping, but your channel showed me that it is often just a matter of nails too dry.

I bought the orly bonder after watching your video,its amazing keeps my nail polish on for over one week fantastic usually does not stay more than 2 days..i have ridged nails this seems to smooth them out too. Am i supposed to take bonder off each time i refresh my nails? I noticed its very difficult to take bonder off.

I have Orly "Bare Rose" - it's part of the "French Manicure" line that includes "Rose Colored Glasses." I really like it - I feel like it drys very fast. I like using it on my toes to keep my nails in good shape and it's good to throw on my nails when I don't have a lot of time to wait for polish to dry. I wanted to get the "Dior Nail Glow", but too expensive for me, so I found out that some people where using "Bare Rose" as a dupe. I would be interested to know what you think of it in comparison to the nail glow. I also bought the color "Turn It Up" - it's a clear polish with glitter in it...very fun.

Dior is clear with a pink tint. It also has a glow when you go outside which brightens/freshens up the nails.

@@TheSalonLife I have left the bottle at home but I think it’s “Sec N’ dry”. They might have a new bottle design now as I have the tall narrow bottle, but I have seen the name on the thicker not so tall bottle. The topcoat is not as shiny as say Seche Vite and not so quick drying as that, but I haven’t seen the “shrinkage” with the Orly topcoat.

Enjoying your video. Love this colour on you. I'd like to try it myself. Intrested to see what difference the bonder makes to to how well your manicure lasts. I have OPI nail envy origonal which I bought in the UK and I'm sure it has some type of formaldehyde in it which does put me off. A nail strengthener/treatment I like which I use to protect my nails or as a base coat is "Nailsinc, Green Fingers" . Its a seaweed strengthening ttt. It has a clear slightly green tinged colour. Would prefer a pink tinged colour but I suppose its the seaweed extract. It does have the nitrocelulose though. For me its the best ttt ive tried so far.
@TheSalonLife
@TheSalonLife 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Maureen! Don't be scared of formaldehyde (well, formalin really as polishes do not contain formaldehyde which is a gas). You just have to know how to use it. Formaldehyde resin is not the same as formaldehyde. I don't know why some companies insist on coming up with these "natural" names when in fact other ingredients in the formula really do the work (but they don't sound natural so they are not me mentioned) I looked up the Nails Inc.... are you referring to Nail Kale base coat? I'm wondering if there is any reliable data showing that kale applied topically in the amount of 0.006% probably is beneficial for the nails? Looking at the ingredients it contains Haxanal which I hear is beneficial for the nails but it doesn't sound natural so they don't mention it ;) BRASSICA OLERACEA ACEPHALA LEAF (Kale) is shown in the ingredients list much lower than Haxanal so if there is any Kale extract, there is much less of it than Haxanal (and that is used in the nail products in tiny amounts) Here is some good info about formalin in nail polishes: bit.ly/3sHLFu2 bit.ly/2Ob3kuY bit.ly/3zsIQRt

Yes! Love toe socks and also have a pair of Altras. They are great! Try Topo Athletic shoes; they are even better and more comfortable than Altras (slightly differently shaped but wide toe box and more flexible sole that has a 16mm stack height; perfect!) . Anna, love watching you paint! Came for the mani but really enjoyed the shout out for minimal shoes!

Hey Cat! Thank you for telling us about Topo Athletic! I hadn't heard of them before. I may grab the Terraventure 3's for trail work, that or stick Anna into a set and see what she thinks. I'm currently using the Altra TORIN 5 for running/recovery (Thank you Zach Bitter). By far the best shoe I have ever used so far. These and the Fivefinger KSO EVO are my fav shoes. Have a great day Cat! (FYI, we are all about the minimal shoe/wide toe life!) - Mr. Salon Life

I love Orly’s nail polishes. They’re in my top 3. However, like most brands, I’ve been underwhelmed by their top coats. Not shiny enough for me. Their best line is the Orly Breathable collection. I wish they had given that a different name. The name sounds kind of gimmicky, but it really is just a base coat, color, and top coat all in one. So you apply all 3 steps in 1 layer, hence “breathable.” It’s not bulky on the nails. Some of the colors from that collection are the best polishes I’ve ever used. The white based nudes and pastels are a little streaky like most brands and need a second coat, but the darker shades and metallics are excellent! The black one one from that collection is called Mind Over Matter. It’s opaque in one coat and has the highest gloss I’ve ever seen in a color polish even better than OPI Infinite Shine. It also self levels beautifully and somehow dries completely hard extremely quickly. Whatever they use to make it glossy needs to be in their normal top coats. I literally think that black may be my favorite polish of all time. I really like the Orly Breathable on my toes because it’s easy to just apply everything in one layer. As far as base and top coat, my favorite hands down that I always return to is OPI Start to Finish. It’s a base coat, top coat, and “nail strengthener.” Using it as a base coat is flawless. You can skip ridge filler. It has acrylates copolymer in it (the strengthener part) but that also makes it self level like a gel. It still removes with regular nail polish remover though. Using that as a base coat almost feels like applying lacquer over a glossy cured gel topcoat. This is not an exaggeration, lol. Then as a top coat, same thing. It self levels, smooths any imperfections, and has the glossiest finish of topcoats that I’ve found and still manages to dry very quickly. My polished nails look like a gel manicure and hold up well. OPI Start to Finish is my favorite base AND top coat of all time. I can’t vouch for the strength part because I don’t have weak nails. To experiment, I did a side by side with the Orly Breathable black that I mentioned. One finger just had the Orly Breathable and the second finger I applied the Breathable with the OPI start to finish as a top coat even though you don’t have to. I couldn’t tell a difference between the two as far as the shine! That’s how shiny the Orly Breathable polish is. That was hella impressive to me since that OPI top coat is super glossy. Orly is available in the UK and you may be able to get it easier. They also offer a quarterly subscription box called Color Pass. It’s $36 and they send you their entire collection each season. That’s $6 per polish plus a bonus item. Usually a free base or top coat. It’s a really good deal because their bottles are also bigger than any other brands. There’s a KZbinr called Kelli Marissa that has reviewed most all of their collections for years. She does excellent swatch videos and has even collaborated with Orly to produce her own shades. I would check her out if you’re wanting to see more about the colors and how they apply. There’s one more top coat that I love and wanted to mention. The brand is called Mineral Fusion. They make more natural based nail polish. I buy them at Whole Foods if that’s any indication, but you can also find them on Amazon. They have a particular top coat called Gel Top Coat. It’s not a true gel, doesn’t require lights or anything. It’s designed to go over their regular nail polishes and air dries. I don’t know how they do it, but that top coat dries down like a gel polish somehow. When I went to remove it with polish remover I couldn’t get it off. I started freaking out. Apparently, it dries down like a gel even though you don’t need a light. Like my OPI Start to Finish it has acrylates copolymer in it. I think that’s the culprit. It will need to be buffed and soaked off like a gel polish even though it’s technically not a true gel. If you have clients that don’t like the idea of curing gel in a lamp but want the longevity of gel with regular polish, I’d recommend it. You can use regular lacquer and then use it as a top coat for a gel like finish that literally will not come off until you buff it off. Even though it impressed me, I still prefer OPI Start to Finish because it wears similarly, but doesn’t dry down quite that hard. It removes with my regular remover and cotton.
