I got this same generator a year ago, and am just now getting it up and running. Working great. Quieter than I expected. When it's running I can barely hear it inside the house. I'm using gas now, but the propane option is interesting. My next step is to set up this generator in a permanent spot outside in a shed/doghouse, and make it as easy as possible to activate it during an outage.

Thanks for posting the video Korey. I bought this exact same generator last year. We`ve had to use ours a few times since last summer when we lost power in a few storms. I can`t say enough good things about ours. It runs most of our house, including the freezer in the garage. We run ours on propane because i don`t want to deal with gas and cleaning it out for storage when we`re not using it. I`ll be changing the oil in ours over the weekend so that its ready to go when we need it again. All i can say is, money well spent. I did all the electrical gen hook up`s to the main panel my self. I keep our generator in the garage, exhaust gets vented to the outside. I have a 15ft 50A quick connect cable that plugs right into the gen inlet box, and a breaker lockout on the mains. Hit that remote start, she`s runnin beautiful. After all the reviews i read, this was the right generator for us.

That’s awesome man! I definitely would love to be able to plumb it all from the inside of the garage, but I need the space more often than not and I’m moving them around fairly regularly haha. Eventually I’ll make a small shed outside to keep it in, safe from the elements and locked up. The generator is absolutely a powerhouse and is the perfect portable whole home generator in my opinion as well. If I had a propane hookup I’d probably run it off propane in order to keep the carbs from getting gummed up, but I’ll just keep running it every couple weeks to try and combat that. Thanks for the comment man!

The manual for my WGEN9500TFC doesn't mention changing the oil after the break in period. Do they assume I know I'm supposed to change the oil or is this something done out an abundance of caution?
@KoreyB03
@KoreyB03 5 күн бұрын
3 oil changes could definitely be considered overly cautious. I started this from when I bought my Predator generator. I looked up a break in cycle online and found this to benefit my generator the most. My mower had a break In cycle in the manual also that had me change the oil after an initial run. all of the brand new motors Ive changed the oil in have had some type of metal flake in the oil that was clearly visible. It’s an extra step, but if it’ll prolong the life of the engine then I’m in for an extra oil change or two.

The odd part was, that the shipping box didn't have even a sign of damage on the exterior, not even a dent, but damage on the generator was substantial. I'm guessing it was damaged at the factory, packaged and shipped from China anyway, but it's just my speculation. Amazon refunded my money and now Im trying to find youtube videos with stepper motor close ups particularly, as mine has completely missing those parts. Thanks for the great review!

@@KoreyB03 - That's encouraging to hear. I've been going back and forth on whether to buy one of the whole home (non-portable) generac/kohler units which hooks up to a natural gas line for the home, but the way I figure it, I could buy 2 or 3 of these Westinghouse units and still save 10 grand over the cost of the whole home units (once you factor in installation costs with certified electrician). During the break-in process, do you have to change the new oil filter out every time you change the oil?
@KoreyB03
@KoreyB03 Жыл бұрын
It doesn’t have an oil filter. It does have a fuel filter and air filter tho. If it did have one there’s no word of it anywhere in the manual. I’ve never owned a generator with an oil filter I don’t believe.

@@KoreyB03I have this same one and I’m just doing my break in period today but I bought this generator in 2021 but I never used it only started it here and there but I r always used fuel stabilizer and let the fuel bowl run empty to protect the generator. I will change the oil after break in because I have a lot of oil now so I can finally use the Briggs and Stratton oil for this generator.

How did the 2 hour break in cycle go?
@KoreyB03
@KoreyB03 2 жыл бұрын
Break in went good. The 2nd oil change had significantly less metal in it, but there was some. After that oil change I ran it w a small load on the generator and kept that oil in there. I’ll just check it before each start up and follow the manual from there.

What’s the best oil to run it on ps I’m no handy man I have no clue what I’m doing 😂 I pray I don’t fk it up so your saying run it for a hour and change the oil completely and continue the process two to three more times in 1-2 hour intervals?
@KoreyB03
@KoreyB03 9 ай бұрын
Hahaha, it’s fairly easy so I’m sure u can doit! Manual states 5w30 is recommended for all applications and 10w30 is next best. Yessir, that’s what I do personally. There are a lot of different ways u could break it in. At minimum I do 1 hour under 0 load and change oil. Atleast 1 hour under load and change oil. Then I run it again for atleast 1 hour under a load and check oil for any metal shavings. Change it if u see any and if u don’t then leave it. 🍻
