In fact, if one isn't present, it's not really forgetting, we missed the content in the 1st place, as we were not present. Cannot forget that which one wasn't "exposed" to.

I enjoy hiking in the mountains. I often find myself bounding along on the trail lost in thought unable to enjoy the wilderness. I created a new discipline. When I find myself lost in thought, I stop in my tracks, take several deep breaths and look around, smell the air, listen to the wind in the trees, the birds and turn around in my tracks looking up and down, all around. Then I take a moment and go macro, and focus on something small, then look deeper and study a plant, an insect or pattern on a rock. Its a very powerful way to train yourself to get into the moment.

Hey! I use this same method. Be well. I have even thanked the bugs and plants for their service. I even joined an ant for a walk once. I got distracted after about 15mins and we had only gone about 3 feet. It just kinda wasn't really going anywhere.

I find it so hard to stop the overthinking! I know how important it is to be 'conscious' and be in the present moment, but I can't seem to stop the idea that the overthinking is going to protect me as it helps me prepare for all eventualities.

Of course we do that to prevent vulnerability. I am terrified of feeling my emotions or caught off guard in public. In fact it's humiliating for me. This very fear fuels my overthinking and makes it difficult for me to connect with others authentically. Sometimes I feel like I am fine with emotions in public and I don't care what others think. But it's a vicious cycle.

same...exact same thing happens with me..maybe cos we have been attuned to stress from an early age that our sub-conscious mind feels safe to return to that state of "spaceship" as nicole calls it. I too become reactive not knowing what i am feeling in my body.

I have forgotten most of my childhood good memories and the good memories of my adult life.. most of the bad memories are there to remember..earlier I didn't have any explanation for that to myself. I used to think I am weird and the odd one out because everybody I knew remembered small details of childhood or high school days.. watching your videos and posts I am aware now why it happens to me.. thanks a lot for the explanation.

This one is huge!! Thank you. I’ve honestly mistaken overthinking for consciousness at times when I’m analyzing myself, my thoughts, and my behaviors. It feels so productive but in the end still keeps me detached from the present moment. I also didn’t realize I was practicing consciousness when doing that attention redirect (I find myself almost constantly lost in thought so it’s quite necessary for me to yank myself out when things need to get done, also heavilyy relate to the forgetfulness), but that’s some good motivation to keep practicing it right there knowing that I’m cultivating consciousness!! Thanks Dr. Nicole, much love ❤️

Thank you. I have been "over-thinking" the past and what could be in the future that I end up being reactive with the emotions that comes with these thoughts. Which in turn leads me to neglect the present moment. I then forget to check in with my emotion and other's emotions. I am still very new to learning in this self healing journey. Thank you. I love ADHD, all I do is shift my attention when my body needs to take over. I'm just hearing more and more, that it's a God given gift. And when I'm interested in what's happening, I hyperfocus. And I have alarms for everything if not a visual schedule to keep me on task. Consciousness is amazing. ADHD is my best friend 🥰 WITHOUT WEAPONIZING IT. That's emotional abuse to myself. Recognizing when I am losing focus, but deciding in that 5sec. Window if I will allow the switch to a new distraction or taking a quick break to remain focused on the task at hand. I don't force me, I guide me.

What about consciously thinking about the world and ourselves and how we interact with it versus overthinking? Not only examination of our lives, how to make better choices, but also how the world can be a better place or how to advance whatever we are into. Hi Nicole... Can you make a video on when to trust my thoughts and feelings and when to not? I get confused with the generalized idea of not to take our thoughts or feelings seriously coz they are not facts. Sometimes my thoughts are helpful but when I avoid them I find myself in huge trouble. Then I beat myself for not listening to my thoughts or feelings.

Most of the time I’m able to redirect and/or be much more conscious during the day, but when I’m dealing with an issue that is particularly emotional for me - especially sad ones - I cannot seem to get a handle on it at night & I pretty much end up having a mostly sleepless night. Unfortunately, that then sets me up for a whole cycle of losing control for several days once I’ve lost that night of sleep, my ability to stay present, regardless of how many reminders I set up, simply goes out the window. Any suggestions for dealing with the overthinking at night?
@latinwriter
@latinwriter 2 жыл бұрын
That is because redirecting is not helpful jf you are using it to avoid the feeling. The emotion/feeling must be seen and embrace, in my experience. I am not saying it is easy to do, but it is what I have been seen in my life and practice. Right now all the deep-in core issues I have been releasing MOSTLY in my dreams. It means I am overwheelmed and do not want to deal with them awake. Now I see the pattern and consciously chose to invite to be seen even if I rather redirect my attention. I am working on the right balance so that I wont wake up at 4, 4 or 5am with the heart pulse like crazy and close-up chest bothering my breathing and making me feel anxious or in anguish

I feel that redirecting is only useful if you actually deal with the emotion/feeling in presence embracing what it brings. One important part of the work you might be missing (or maybe not but I do not see you talk about and I understand why) is the impact of past live and generational and collective trauma. When we are realeasing fear from our ancestry system all memories from this and perhaps other lives (if you believe that) come up to the surface. Simply redirecting is a great option to avoid to "do the work" of feeling those and releasing without resistance!! What I am talking here is deep unconscious levels, as most of these symptons some of us feel when healing for a long time, as deeper layers are released. I feel that it is more useful to point out the difference between redirecting and avoiding/repressing the uncomfortable. As someone pointed out in the comments at night we night feel at loss if this was done as resistance rather than acceptance of what is. Other point is for those who have as a pattern to continue attached to these old feelings and as such suck them out of others and the enviornment and even collectively. This is more of less my case now so learning to change this pattern of selfabuse to selflove first in order to let go of the distorted ego who wants to save everyone, which we know is not possible, but uncosciously keep repeating and bringing much unnecessary overwhelm
