Good evening Lumnah family from a partly cloudy Minnesota. Good evening viewers. Too bad Al that the rain came before you could finish filling in that sink hole like you wanted to. It does look a lot better! Nice job. Good job getting yourself unstuck with the bucket when you sank in on one side. That was a deep hole. That grass did really hide how deep and how big it was. I hope you didn't lose a lot of your fill when that 6 1/2 inches of rain from Beryl hit the homestead. I'm glad you tried to funnel around the area and you put an earthen dam in too! I got my apartment and I'm very happy with it! I've had some pain with my legs because of the displaced bones. I spent the weekend packing. By the end of that I had to ask my 19 year old son to put the boxes in the car for me I was so sore and having spasms. That was great that he did that. I moved in what I could on Monday. I have to take breaks. I could barely walk at that point. Monday night I didn't get any sleep because of all the spasms, stabbing pains, and hot spots in my lower legs, knees, and feet. I laid down at 10:30 pm and gave up sleeping at 5:50 am. I've had very strong coffee and I had to cut way down on packing and moving things. So far I have a blow up mattress and 2 plastic deck chairs as furniture at my place. I've been focusing on changing my address all over and working on divorce stuff. My soon to be ex-husband wants the divorce done yesterday! We were married for 14 years and I had kids for him 5 years before that. We were engaged for 2 years before that! He wants to pay me $12,000 for my part of the farm. It's valued at 362K. Nice guy huh? I never could talk to him. He was always too busy with work and he always took whatever I said the worst way possible! I'm so DONE with that! I was trying to talk to him about his proposed "deal" for me for the divorce and all he wanted to do is get me to say I lied to him when I said I would sign the divorce when I got back of his proposal of $12,000 for the house. He was calling me and emailing me and wouldn't stop trying to pin me down about the divorce. I wanted to wait until I was back in the same state! I said it to stop him from hassling me. I admit it, I said it to get him to stop! I'm a liar in that one regard. I was trying to get him to give the kids our farm. He wasn't listening. Now he's listening!

You're sitting on a giant shelf of limestone deposits from what once was an inland sea. You're going to find sinkholes that drain down into friatic caves formed by rain disolving limestone at seams. You'll find that sand won't work, the next rains will wash it down the sinkhole. You need to plug it with large rocks dropped in deep and covered with earth.
@CRuf-qw4yv2 ай бұрын
I was thinking along simlar lines..But I speculate it may be due to a drop in the water table or change in migration route of water plume from an underground spring leaving a void (as a result of weather and, I recall you did have some natural wetlands on that property and beavers were causing some problems at the time.). I still think there may be some wash-out issues.

Al, you might want to check something out. In our area (we live in the city limits but I don't think that would change anything) there was a house a few doors down that a sink hole devoloso iped and the county was notified, It seems this is a big deal. The Department of Geogoligy of the State tracks these things and apparently is responsible for filling them in. They also want to check on them from time to time to see if any changes have occured. Many people would not have the resources such as a tractor or access to get fill to try and take care of the issue. Also it may be important for others to know where these sink holes are.

I like the views from inside the cab of the tractor. It’s an interesting perspective on what you are doing. Keep in mind that it’s pretty much impossible to hear whatever you’re saying over the noise of the tractor, though. Might it have been a good idea to just put a fence around the sinkhole? I know absolutely nothing about the subject and it’s probably a temporary solution at best. Gina’s garden looks great! I consider the strawberry a small payment for all of the work she’s been doing in the garden. That hurricane and her remnants made a huge mess along her path! Take care and be careful. Ken’s Karpentry channel had some horrendous footage of the flooding in a small town near his home.

WOW 😂 with the sand & silt piled & spread we can see how HUGE that SINKHOLE really was.

If you have a sinkhole, you need to contact the authorities at the New Hampshire Geological Survey, with the mining history in the 1800's, in your area where you live and as well the tailings pile that you have been using as gravel on your property and your parking lot. If the sinkhole is from a mineshaft of one of the gold mines, you may have a bigger problem that sinkhole, if the mineshaft shoring has rotted and the mine roof is caving in, it is possible you could have bigger problems. You may need ground penetrating radar survey of the property to see if it is a mine shaft. also New Hampshire Geological Survey also may have maps of the known mines and the tunnel under the ground.
@zippythechicken2 ай бұрын
They don't need to contact the USGS they caused that when they cleared the land of trees for the homestead. like he said he was hiding piles of rock that they turned up with the bulldozers.. you can go watch that video and see what they did.. also notice around that entire field area they have huge boulders they moved.. they were all dug up. just peaking out of the ground so they dug them up and moved them when they leveled the area a bit Unfortunately its downhill from their septic leach field or it might have been a good place to put a swimming pool heh. not good to have it downhill from the leach field hahahahah
@rupe532 ай бұрын

Having watched channels like Dirt Perfect and letsdig, I figured out you need some bigger equipment! lol And with 500 acres up there.. is there no place you can grab some fill from? You'd need a dump trailer... but you got your excavator to dig it out... and then I'm not sure the tractor is the best idea. Almost like you could really use a heavy duty bull dozer right about now. Still... it's fun to watch you try to tackle these projects with what you got. Thanks for sharing this homesteading journey with us.

Southern Mass. has been getting zero rain since mid to late spring. just a sprinkle here and there. Our temps are in the 90s again this week with heat index over 100. Already 93 as of 10:30 this am. Wish you could push it down south with the tractor lol. Hope Beryl didn't sink it all again.

You could have a Giant cave system down there with 20ft ceilings, you should’ve had someone come and take a look and explore it for you , I know Aquachigger does that, you should try to contact him, he would love to find out if you have a Beautiful cave system down there. Plus you don’t want to keep dumping money into a possible Endless Abyss, you probably have a river from your natural springs, it’s just going to keep washing everything you put down there away

Where did all the soil go ? Usually a sink hole is a sign of a subterranean stream that is carrying soil away . So if that's the case , you will need more fill soil in a few years .

Two causes for water to gravitate thru that area, and rocks were buried during excavation that could be related to where water flows to, a maybe, but water flow attracts more water flow ! Al placed a dam ( shovels of dirt ) to divert a dry streams water from the sinkhole area, that is a source of causing sinkholes size to grow ! The Septic Leechfield vent pipe ( a White PVC pipe, seen ) is just above the sinkhole, not extremely far away, that is the source of small water stream seen in sinkhole before any sand was added ! So' adding sand then muck was a good choice, better than rocks and stones, with most all the settlement problems solved, whereas a future topping-off may be needed ! Al wants his animals to graize there' and that area has Septic Leechfield, Solar Array and they are likely Not for Grazing, But the sinkhole area itself has been converted to available pasture, just needing grasses !
