• The Chateau Diaries 05...
My name is Michael Petherick and I live with my family at Chateau de la Basmaignee in north west France.
My brother and his fiancé bought this building with some inheritance money three years ago and we are slowly restoring it to live in, and run as a business.
It’s always a financial struggle to keep the place going and we have to work hard to keep our heads above water, but we love it and wouldn’t have It any other way.
When they knew that they were buying the château, my brother asked me if I would like to move over and take part in their new adventure... so I packed my bags, gave up my life in England and moved here to help bring this place back to life.
We do all the renovations ourselves including construction, decorating and collecting antique furniture that we buy cheaply to restore. Our goal is to fill the château with beauty and life as it once was.
I have a passion for history, art and all things old.
These videos are a series of stories about my life and experiences living in a French castle.
We film and edit everything ourselves.
I’ll be showing all aspects of life here, from renovation and DIY, to crafts and baking, art, daily life and a bit of fun thrown in for good measure. There’s much more to see and our journey is still just beginning.

Georgia Ludewig I completely agree. I’m so glad they put that rain scene in; probably seemed like nothing for them, but all of us loved it! When you said about the water spraying everywhere in the master bedroom en-suite it’s probably because the water level is not high enough. I have one and it sprayed everywhere but then we realised it was because the water didn’t go over the jets on the side of the tub, it was below them
@jerrettfowler
@jerrettfowler 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I was just about to comment that. You have to fill the jacuzzi up until it's over the jets, then you turn the jets on. Otherwise it's shooting water from the jet system all over the room. :D

Hi Michael you are such an inspiration so talented! Thank you for mentioning Stephanie’s channel and I hope your friendship never changes with this dynamic. I will try to briefly explain what I think happened with subscribers. Stephanie had what is called organic growth. She slowly built up her audience over the years. When she had you in so many episodes...you already had a built in audience from that. When you open your channel Stehanie essentially transferred all of her subscribers around 30 K at the time. KZbin works with algorithms, mathematical equations that picked up the rush with which you were adding subscribers...when the algorithm sees someone add 30K overnight it decides you are amazing and starts suggesting to others your video so more and more people click on it. And as more people See how amazing you are then in turn it keeps growing exponentially...

Seeing the storm at the end of the video reminded me of the rainy scene in the latest Jayne Eyre movie. I imagine Michael Fassbender brooding somewhere. When I saw the upright piano after watching the house tour: You can never have too much of a piano in your life. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a 3rd or 4th piano somewhere in the estate.

Ok you got me hooked. I completely enjoy the photography, the tour, the renovations and your patience. I'm interested in the electrical and heating and plumbing. How do you make the service runs through the building and keep the beauty? Tom

Beautiful surroundings i must say. What a storm! At least you know where to seal the roof now, dont you? :) I agree with you Michael that Stephanie really deserve some attention to her beautiful castle and all the hard work she puts in to it. Not only is she fun, but she is an amazing storyteller, and knows the history about her chateau so well, and it is like digging through a candy box when seeing what she does to make that castle flourish! People for sure will miss out if they dont go over to her site! Also they might even meet you at Chateau de Lalande! Thanx for sharing, keep em coming! :)

Yes! We bought a house that had been empty for 18 months and, years later, we're still trying to get the azalea and laurel hedges back. They'd completely bolted.
