This is a great example of how important it is to clean the throttle body especially on an older car . It might not seem like an important task but if you run your car for a long time with a clogged throttle it will leed to not only bad fuel economy, shaky idle but also more complex problems down the road . This process will be similar on all the audi models like a3 a4 b4 b5 with the 1.8t engine .

Great Video a question for you I have a 1998 AEB 1.8t Passat sport and a couple of years ago I decided to clean the TB but i made a mistake as I took the butterfly off to give it a good clean and now it wont reach the lower stop so it idles too high in the TB stepper motor inside is here a way I can manually reset the lower stop it is like a stop inside needs to be moved a bit any help would be great thanks and I love my car had it since 2005 still drives perfectly and very rare now

Thank you, very useful. Tomorrow I am going to clean mine as well, I had turbo issues , replaced the turbo, now it is running poor, not going in boost and misfires on hi revs. Idle is waving, engine stalls after high revs.

@@doit_vehicles It is an project car, golf mk1 ecu is not letting in, I can see some basic info, not more. But I did clean throttle body, was super dirty. I found also some little boost leak. It drives just fantastically now, finally it runs as it should, thank you very much.

If there are no oil leaks inside the intake , I would inspect it once a year

My Audi A4 1.8T has an uneven jerk when starting and fuel consumption jumps up to 20 L/100 km when driving a short distance of 1 km uphill. It drops down to 6.0 over a longer distance. I changed the spark plugs and its still the same. Car is nearing 100000 km and I am wondering if the throttle body is the culprit.

Wondering if this is why my engine shakes after turning on the a/c. At 1st I had a drag in acceleration after turning on my a/c, but now it's shaking my engine & dropping in rpm at idle. Gonna go grab some thb cleaner & see if that helps because i have no codes for misfire. Only code i have is my secondary air pump (smog pump). Already replaced map sensor, some air hoses all were filthy, so I think my problem lies with the throttle body being dirty. Plus I'm at 179k in my 02 audi a4 quattro 1.8t

Thanks for the video… I have Audi A6 sline 2011. Throttle body keeps getting dirty. Any idea why it’s keeps getting dirty.had throttle body clean 2 months ago and now it’s getting dirty again. Do you think this is something to do with dpf. On my car dpf had been removed and car is been remapped.

Hello, I have a petrol Audi A4 1.8 automatic of 1998. For two days now when I start the engine I notice that it does not start easily. After it finally starts and I put the lever to "D" when I press the pedal I see that the engine wants to turn off when I keep below 1800 rpm it works normally, but if I press more the pedal starts to break, what do you think it can be..? I. I believe that the throttle has some problems, you from the experience you have what you recommend me to check.

Also the last month I changed my air filter, it was the one from the factory 1998 was written on it and I noticed the throttle body is dirty also, the fuel filter i also think was factory from 1998..the previous owner I would imagine haven't changed those parts
