Oh DoItYourselfDad. You've made this look and sound so easy even this gramma can do it???? I will watch this video over and over and over until I feel confident enough to dive in. Fixed income greatly reduces the opportunities to call for help. I've had to learn so much "do it yourself" as I'm alone. This will bring kudos and champagne to me (and you for teaching clearly and concisely). I will be throwing myself a party if I can pull this off.

Some excellent information in here. That pump unit is very similar to the Gecko Aqua-Flo pump that I have to replace in my Arctic Spa. My power cable is different, but other than that, it's amazing how similar these pumps and tub set-ups are.

Thanks for the informative video. I see that your motor is grounded to the controller box. My daughter bought a home and the inspection report said the motor wasn’t grounded. There is a ground screw on the motor but it isn’t used. Also, her jetted tub doesn’t have a controller box. What should the motor be grounded to?
@DoItYourselfDad6 ай бұрын
If it’s an above ground tub there should be a ground somewhere under there, check where the power comes into the tub.

I am curious on whether it could be dangerous if not hooked up properly. I get the grounding is important, but any other issues, sitting in a tub with hot water and jets going? Thank you for the great video - you are really impressive.

The only thing that may need resetting is if you spa has a thermal switch (a little red button) it would need to be pushed back in similar to a fuse. Mine didn't need anything reset.

I've wondered, if you have an in ground pool with connected hot tub, would you still need two separate pumps to run the jets and circulate the water or could you theoretically use a high enough HP variable speed pump to do the job of both?

Yes, the in ground pool we had in the past had one water pump, it also had a separate blower for bubbles.

l have a Rimini spa bad or hotub , that is about 8 years old. I am in Sweden, We noticed a while ago that it did not seem to have full power, when pushed on full power, the flow was weak, everywhere. We also said to ourselves, that we think that we had 2 power settings, you pushed it in and got like 50% bubbles and then pushed it in again for full bubbles. But we only seemed to have one setting now full and off only. I know the pump is 2 speed, says on it. So I took the pump out and took it apart, noticed that the impellor was half missing, all broken, So I thought great was impellor, ordered a new impellor and seals, just the same, pushed the jet button on, which again only full mode, hardly any flow. could not believe that this was not the problem. And then after testing it for a good few times, the jet button refused to go on to full bubbles, I am thinking that this is some safety cut-off switch inbuilt. I thought for a while that possibly the pump smelled like it was burning just a little. I have taken out all the jets, emptied the water, blasted a hose through all of them, thinking that if 50% of the impellor is disintegrated, then bits must be stuck somewhere. Some small bits have come out. very small though. I am wondering if I need to buy a new pump, Just hope it's not the motherboard or control panel. Because the pump has not 2 speeds working, or something is definitely not right. What's your opinion. Is there something else I need to check? I am cracking up, not finding the problem, Could it be the capacitor? I am hoping a new pump will solve the issue. Appreciate your opinion thanks. Also done air bleed ad made no difference.
@DoItYourselfDad3 жыл бұрын
I wish I could help more, but I would advise bringing the motor to a pool store. Most stores can bench test the pump which will at least let you know if that’s the issue or not.

Mine are soft mounted, so the bolts and nuts have a rubber piece underneath that give it some play.

What model Dreammaker did you have on this? Mine is an X400 and the Pump/motor has ZERO markings or labels on it for me to determine a replacement. But your Motor looks almost identical to the one I have and needs replacing. What Waterway pump model did you have on this replacement? Thanks, and excellent video
@DoItYourselfDad6 жыл бұрын
My spa is the 500. I went on Dreammaker's website and looked through their replacement parts section to find which motor was the direct replacement for my pump, then looked it up online and found it elsewhere much cheaper. The dream makers use a specific gasket for the fittings that attach the pump to the hoses, those I did have to order from Deammaker.

If you have 1/4 turn valves yes, otherwise you'll have to drain the spa below the height of the pump.

It is usually not the front housing that leaks, it is normally the seal on the shaft that leaks and runs down and around to the front face. Without the pump running, feel around the shaft between the electric motor and the water pump for moisture. There are plenty of videos on how to replace the seal.
