As well as marking the parts for re-alignment, I always use my cell phone to take photos of the electrical connections. As a retired Electrician, I've used this method my times to photograph complex wiring terminations. Trust me, it really helps.

lmao, me too. thank goodness for phone cameras as there was always something I forgot to put in the drawings we'd have to make back in the old days. I actually bought my last phone (Pixel 7 pro) because the camera does such a good job on parts, up close, low light.

This video is exactly what I needed to see. I was unsure about the new seals because they seamed lose against the impeller shaft and not make contact. You explained that there can be impeller shaft swelling against the old seals. This is exactly what happened to the old impeller on my pump. I see now the joining of the seals together(round spring seal against ceramic seal) is what seals in the water, not the internal shaft contact. Lesson learned. Thanks

I did it! Although my motor (really old) was not the exact model Spa Guy directed be to the right parts after I send photos of what impeller I had. I changed the front bearing. ( I borrowed a puller from Autozone) and I replaced the impeller and the seals. Runs great!! Thanks Spa Guy! Could not have done it without your help!

Really want to thank you for your video. Because of your very-well done video, I was able to fix a corroded pump seal on my Executive 56 hot tub pump with a 100% success rate the first time. Ended up scoring an entire wet-end subassembly for $80 instead of replacing the pump seal and the corroded impeller ceramic hub - but it was well-worth the extra $30. And yes, I turned off the electricity at the breaker box beforehand. I certainly knew to do this anyway (know my way around the workshop) but just for the record, I happily-complied. No shocks here :)

Thank you very much for your videos ... I was extremely frustrated as I fixed a section of flex hose last year and also the stop valve as it broke in pieces when I tried to close the valve, ended up having no issues for a few weeks and than we had the power go out again and temperature below freezing ... by the time I figured it out a few days later the tub was near empty and I just got around to taking the panels off to find the leak starting with my repair and there was no leak there , found the problems shorty after that ... one of the split flange nuts was cracked coming out of the heater and after looking closer the wet end of the pump was cracked and I thought I’d be into a whole new pump... thanks to your video I was able to get the wet end off easily and now I am just waiting for tomorrow to call the local parts guy and it’s gonna be a lot cheaper fix than a whole new motor/pump assembly

Thanks in large part to this video I was able to repair my Executive 56. I did not have any back plate squeezing the bearing. When I got in there, there was only 1 screw and it seemed to be secured to a small, oddly-shaped but tapped piece of metal. It had a protruding, curved end that may have been pressed against the bearing. At any rate, I set about creating my own plate out of steel and that was by far the most time consuming thing. My motor sounds a bit louder now. Not sure if I should be concerned or not. But it's working and no more leak. Thanks! I was able to pull the bearings off with the 3-Jaw Puller set from Harbor Freight, although I had to change the configuration of one of them to pull the middle bearing. Thanks for the detailed notes on your website too so that I was able to ensure I was buying the right replacement set.

Great video!! I would put a piece of heat shrink tubing over the shaft but not over the threads once you've cleaned it up, then maybe a bit of silicon over the end of the heat shrink and just a bit on a couple threads where they meet the smooth shaft to seal the impeller/shaft area.. Too bad they didn't design the motor to blow the cooling air out the shaft side to blow any water away from the shaft and motor. Also a disk that would sit about 1/2" from the motor and a bit larger diameter than the air slots on the motor end, to divert any water away from the motor. I have tried to epoxy the nut back into the impeller but only used a 5min epoxy. One attempt lasted almost a year another only lasted a few months.. Next I'll try JB Weld epoxy.

Thanks for the info. Very informative video. I am new to hot tub maintenance. I think I am old school. I install my bearings using a "slip fit". That is done by placing the stator in the freezer for an hour, and then placing the bearing on top of an old incandescent light bulb until it is hot. Then get the stator out of the freezer and slip the bearing on. No force needed.

Great Video !! I have an old Garden Leisure model 1106 spa.The 2 speed pump has been giving me problems the last couple of years.I took it out and took it to a local repair place about a year ago. They fixed it by replacing the impeller and seal and I guess rebuilt it... I hadn't checked the spa in about a month but when I did that same motor had stopped working( before I did notice the second speed had become a bit noisy). I found your awesome video and decided to take it apart and take a look.I don't trust that repair guy did a very good job if I only got a year out of it.I did notice dried water stains on the wet end.The seal looks new, as well as the impeller, but the impeller shaft is cracked.The motor shaft seems to be falling apart( pieces of metal are breaking off of is...I guess from water getting in??).I measured it and the part numbers are waterway and it has a 56 frame( thanks to all your great well explained videos). The problem I am seeing is the impeller says 4 hp inside, but the wet end has a sticker the looks like it might have shown a 5 hp?? Could the repair place have stuck a 4hp impeller in there and it worked for a bit? but it really needed a 5hp... Sorry about the book I know I am babbling a bit :) Could you give me any advice on what the impeller size should be? I have it all apart in my basement,and live in New York so it is just above freezing...could I run the spa on one pump till I fix this or should I just empty the water...it could be a few days...Thanks so much for any advice you could give. Joe

so got mine together last night, thanks a million for your post it helped immensly. upon rebuilding the pump, the impeller should spin fairly freely in the housing right (minor rubbing from the wear ring?). Initially mine was locked against the front cover upon re-assembly, had to dissasemble, remove the rotor shaft and put it in a vice so i could crank the impeller on further...trying to finger tighten while holding a blade screwdriver is near impossible (For me)

Thanks for this video. It was very good and helpful. I completed all the steps, but for some reason, the pump won't pump water through to the jets, even though can hear it running. It worked before the wet end (leaking) was replaced, but not now. Prior to turning it on (closing up wet end), quickly tested propeller, and it was moving, so I can't figure this one out.

I just replaced the bearings and seals on my pond pump, which is very similar to the pump in this video. One of the differences is it's a 0.5 hp, 1750 rpm Baldor motor. It was making a chattering noise, and after the bearing/seal replacement (which were still in good shape), it's still making the same noise. At the 28:00 minute mark you commented about the rear bearing spinning in the housing. I think that might be what's wrong. Can you give a little more detail on what you do to the (bearing?) to stop it from spinning? Will replacing the wave washer help? Do you have the washers available?

I'd like to re-purpose the Waterway "Executive 48" to siphon/transfer water out of rainwater tank. I've reduced the 2" openings to 3/4" to siphon/disperse water using a garden hose on both ends. I'm curious if the "closed" impeller setup on the wet end and the min volume of water it requires to move won't allow for this 2" to 3/4" reduction vs. an "open" impeller system which most "transfer" pumps seem to employ. Will this work??

Thinking of installing a bluezone spa ozone generator. Have you any info on doing so on a tub that never had one? like where to tap into for the injector, I am upgrading the control centre so control isn't an issue. It's just the actual cut in of the water system.

This is a great video with lots of info. Thanks for posting it. So we replaced the bearing and seal on our wet end, put the pump back together and reinstalled it. When we added water to the spa, the pump leaked at the face plate. We thought the o-ring looked alright so did not replace it. In your video you do not replace it. We are waiting for a new o-ring to see if it solves the problem. Any other suggestions?
@sierradk7 жыл бұрын
Louanne Gilmour - I know this old news, but for other readers here's my input... I used silicone grease (that's grease, not RTV) on the old o-ring prior to re-using it. No leaks.

I have a older Nordic 2 seater hot tub Belle model and the pump is now loud. I am assuming the pump bearing is bad? I haven't opened it up and wondering if you are familiar with this model, the pump and what kit I might need to repair. I think it is a 1 hp motor but not sure and runs on 240/120 currently running on 120V. suction max flo 80 GPM. 32/12A 60hz. I would be willing to buy on your website. Great video and I prefer to work on it myself if possible.

Hey, I could use some help with a brand new Waterway pump (BN51) which is malfunctioning. It has an unusual "Wishbone" switch contact for that centrifugal hub. Is there any illustrated guide to replacing/adjusting that wishbone switch? I must have knocked it out of alignment when I disassembled the pump to rotate the wet end 90 degrees. I've been shifting it around with a screwdriver to try and get it lined up with the hub just right, but it seems like when I get it able to start, it starts for a few days and then randomly gets stuck unable to start again. Should I replace the wishbone and how can I make sure it is aligned properly?
@moink101 Жыл бұрын
You said the internal switch needs to be flat / straight whichever. Do you happen to have a better picture of the orientation? Not sure where it should sit. Not getting the low setting. Also, I had some water get into the motor and cause an arc in the winding. I took it all apart and got it dried but I'm still getting a lot of that residual electrical burning smell. Will that ever go away or is the winding just waiting to die?
