Does the impeller always screw on and off because I cannot get mine off? Could it be that some are pressed on?

Hi there, If you have a wavemaster LX or Gecko pump, the impeller is screwed on. If you can't remove it, it's likely rusted on. Often times, our customers end up destroying it in order to remove it. I cut mine out with a dremmel tool and breaking pieces off the shaft with a screwdriver

Excellent video! What is the best way to clean up the shaft if it has rust or mineral deposits?

You can use sandpaper to clean the shaft. Try not to scratch the shaft. Just sand it enough to get all of the rust and deposits off. Try wet sanding. It works very well to get the shaft very smooth.

What do you do when the empeller parts break around the shaft

Hi there, Ronette- Often times the impeller needs to be destroyed to get it off the shaft. Sometimes it's rusted on there and won't turn and other times it's so brittle, it just breaks off. At that point it's time to replace it. Visit our site to find the impeller you need. If you have a Wavemaster pump, we can help you find the correct impeller and shaft seal so you can get more life out of your pump.
