Thanks Danielle and well done to your son! We just bought one. Struggling to encourage the bunnies inside at the end of each day. They just sit out in the rain!

Have you considered just leaving the hutch open? Rabbits love space to roam and they dont feel the need to be locked in, the run is very sturdy so I wouldnt worry about predators if its screw pegged down

@@itsskat3 Not worried about predators but it is close to freezing and raining and they sit in the rain, get wet and seemingly very cold... don't think they have worked out that they need to go inside to stay warm and dry.

I've found animals tend to be pretty smart about their bodies, as long as they're fairly healthy. I leave our door open and let her make decisions about where she goes. We did add a cover over one area so she can be outside but not get rained on.

Danielle, so 2 years on how do you feel about the Eglu hutch and run?
@doityourselfdanielle5 ай бұрын
Mixed feelings! I have a bunch of different Omlet (and non Omlet) setups now. Haha. I like the taller ones. If I plan to spend a lot of time with the animal. It's just easier for me to get in. For the animals I spend less time with, these are great. I like having fresh bedding whenever I move them and I think it cuts down on the cost of bedding as well. I prefer the ones that the wheels are on the outside because my chicks are sometimes dumb and like to stand near the wheels while I'm trying to move it.

People always mention hawks as predators... I doubt they're going to pick-up a 10-12 pound meat rabbit IMO. I leave mine out all the time in an open cage during the day and never had an issue.

I'm not sure, but my meat rabbit May is similar in size to my meat chickens and I've had a hawk grab a chicken before. Usually they're a bit hesitant to fly into an enclosed space... they seem to like a decent amount of room to swoop down then back up. Where she's a pet, even though she's a big girl, we don't like to take too many risks. I take a few more risks with my chickens, lol.
