I did have a fatherly rabbit after he was neutered. He would even break up fights between the other boys, he was definitely the patriarch of his little warren, probably because he was the oldest after the Mother died from a double pregnacy(halfway through one pregnancy, they can get pregnant again) before we neutered him along with his sons. After neutering, he got along with his sons too, who had to be separated from their sisters and mostly each other, he was the only rabbit we could let play with everyone, but some of his sons did get along with each other, just not all their brothers. Not breeding anymore, but my current rescues are a pair of bonded nuetered males. Some male rabbits do get along with other males, it just has to be done carefully because of the potential for fights.

I My last bf and I had a full Warren going, with the males and females mixing freely (of course we kept getting babies-- glad that's over with! Adorable, but so much work!). Because they had a full yard to hang out in they all got along fairly well, and if they didn't they'd go off to the little territory each had "claimed". The males would mount each other when the females were unreceptive. Only one male left out of the warren, and he's in my care because Anthony can't have pets at his current living quarters. I'm happy.

My rabbit is a male and he's a quick learner, yeah he poops more and dances around me, he is very loving and understands all my emotions, when I am crying, he sits and looks directly at me, when I am happy he does zoomies and binkies and also nips my limbs for attention, like one day when I was preparing my cold coffee, he just came and started circling me and then put his front paws on my leg and kept standing until I gave him a treat. He is extremely territorial, he is a free roamer and never lets a sparrow or squirrel near my porch. He loves to chase butterflies in my garden, is afraid of mice and has a special disliking for geckos . He also loves to stand on my books whenever I am studying . And yeah he is going to be 2 years old, this year on August 10

Then you got lucky, male rabbits are notorious for fighting and will fight to the death if you allow them to. And yes my pair were previously bonded since birth but will never be re bonded because the submissive of the 2 doesn't want to be around the other bun under any circumstances and yes they are neutered
@desireemcmichael995310 ай бұрын
We have two males from a litter of 5 from my sister who was told she had two males. These two bonded from birth and not with the other buns. They cuddled groomed and played well until they began sexually maturing and then the little one fought hard with the bigger one. Big one fought back eventuallyLittle one was runt of the litter. Got them neutered. It took a full year, we had to let one out to play and roam and then put him away to let the other one have outside his mansion time. They would bite and scratch at each other through the cage bars. Finally a full year after they were neutered they showed signs of wanting to be near each other. grooming each other through the bars, chewing at the wood edges of the cages. We reintroduced them carefully and since then a few months have passed and they have rebonded, play and eat together. It's possible for previously bonded siblings to bond again, biggest factor is how quickly you get them fixed as soon as the fighting starts.

I have learned in a Facebook rabbit bonding group that it takes about 12 weeks post neuter surgery for a male rabbit’s hormones to “dissipate”. That’s why if you’re planning to bond a male rabbit with a female, you need to wait 3-4 months after surgery for his territorial hormonal behavior to calm down before allowing him close to your female. If you don’t do this, you run a high risk of him possibly being aggressive with and harming your female!
@desireemcmichael995310 ай бұрын
Our two male buns from same litter were bonded well before they started sexually maturing. Separated them and got them in to get neutered a month after. It took a full year for them to re-bond and be able to play eat and be non aggressive with each other. I heard it would take quite awhile for the hormones to die down and some bonded pairs never re-bond after getting fixed, another factor I heard was how fast you get them fixed after they start fighting.

I think it's worth noting that male bunnies tend to be more affectionate (or maybe it's attachment) towards their human then females. There's always exceptions but my boys have always been pushier about getting attention and head rubs than my girls. Following me around nose bumping my calves. The girls are more independent and seem to only be in my way/lap when I'm busy or eating. I think they're just smarter at getting treats at the opportune time. 😂

I think I am then very lucky. My little male does chase his male offspring, but nothing close to hurting. He also doesn't spray - at all. I have been living with my 2 bunnies (parents) and their 4 offspring now for almost a years - 24 hrs a day. I work from home and really seldom.goes out. HE is WAY MORE tender and attentive to the kids than she is. Especially when the young ones are one the verge if turning 3 months then she chases them as many times as she cuddles them. By my little male is the proverbial hands-on parent. Even while she was giving birth he was sitting way close up to her, very quiet and resting 1 little paw on her. And he sat like that untill all 3 babies were born. When the young ones start moving about, in the beginning they also cuddle a lot with mom, but in my case, mostly with daddy and he groomed them and slept with them and it was so beautiful I cried a lot of times. Even now that the oldest litter is 5 months old and the younger litter 3 months, they mostly cuddle up with daddy (even when both parents are there the young ones will rather cuddle with daddy on his side or lie in front of both and cuddle that way). I have netherland dwarf bunnies crossbred with Angora but only 1 of the babies have the look if an angora - such a docile gentle little being. Much quieter than the rest.

He quickly learned his name, the "come" command, and whenever he hears the word "treat' he goes into binkies and gets all excited and playful. I love him so much ♥ Something not mentioned here, but should be known, is getting a female spayed is much more expensive than getting a male neutered. Just get your bun fixed as soon as he is old enough. Good Video. This is my second male and wouldn't change that for anything.

(Had to reinforce it when I would find them together😂) I didn't have to rebond them! They were bffs before then, and are even more now! There isn't a guarantee that that will be the outcome for alll bunnies though.

Thank you Lorelei. I have watched just about all of your videos and your advice on rabbits is right-on. 👍 I learned a lot from you in taking proper care of my two precious rabbits. I would like to share from experience from my rabbits and my friends who also have more than one rabbit, that those of you who do have two or more rabbits, please know that even neutered rabbits still have hormones going around in their bodies. Neutering them doesn’t rid males of all their main hormone, testosterone or females of their main hormone, oestrogen. During spring time, wild rabbits are at their peak breeding time, with hormones massively heightened. So even pet/domesticated rabbits may show social, sexual and even aggressive behaviours even if they are spade or neutered. In both rabbits, there may be an increase in chasing and mounting of their companion. So please don't cage your rabbits. It can be very devastating to the weaker one or one's who can't escape out of the cage, with life-threatening injuries or even death from the aggressive rabbit. Its very cruel. So please allow your rabbits to free-roam. But before you do, please watch Lorelei's videos on how to free-roam your rabbit "safely" in your home. Thank you Lorelei for all of your videos and advice on how to properly take care for our rabbits. ❤ 🐰❤ 🐇 ❤

And knows this, rabbits are faster than snakes and can bite each other's eyeballs out if you don't keep them separate. And the vet bills can be very expensive and painful for you and your bunnies. I have an unneutered male and a neutered male and I can't afford to get the one mail neutered. I keep them separately free roaming on my boat. But there are always situations where they can get into each other's living space. I avoid this as much as possible but everyone makes mistakes I've learned the hard way. I'd love to get my other male rabbit neutered but it still may not solve the problem. Unneutered rabbits are very loving towards people. They just love to be petted and rubbed. My unneutered rabbit is ready to run away every time I put my hand down. I think he still likes it when I catch him and pet him though I never pick him up I let him live on the floor and the bed. Take care, God bless
@jasmin4702 жыл бұрын
Therefore, you are supposed to neuter male bunnies before the 12th week - before their body already started producing those hormones. If you do that, the chance of male bunnies getting along is the highest.
@edwardroche24802 жыл бұрын
@@jasmin470 but what if they're almost 2 years old is it still better or is it too late. My little bunny is a very sweet guy, it doesn't bother me that he pees and tries to kick it in my face. I'm used to that. I just don't want him to get sick and suffer. I don't want to change his personality. When I got him he was a baby and I named him baby and I called him a little squirt. Hence the name baby squirt. I took him to the bed after I first got him to look him over before I took him home and let him be around my other rabbit. The vet asked me why I called him baby squirt. Now I know. He knows when he's been bad and he refrains from bad behavior after I talk to him about it. So it is a endurable situation. But I still wonder whether I should get him neutered or not. It's expensive and that adds into the equation.

@@edwardroche2480 I dont know how the prices are where you live, but in Germany it is actually quite okay. I paid 80€ for the male and 120€ for the female. If I were you, I would still get him neutered because of the reasons explained in this video. At the moment I am fostering an unneutered male and I can really feel his stress and frustration. My neutered male is really the most chill bunny on earth and I would hate seeing him distressed because of his hormones. Don't worry about character. He will still be the same snuggle bug but with much less stress. But yea, I can't promise you that your two bunnies will get along after that. Some people say that two males start to get along again if they wake up from sedation together (after neutering). Obviously, you will have to bond them on neutral territory again after.

My sister had a pair when I was little and they ended up having a small litter of two little cute beans and actually the mother didn't seem to like them that much (she was generally a VERY sassy bunny) and while she did feed them nicely she usually kept a distance but the father was actually spending quite some time with them. He ended up being best buddies with his son when he grew up, just too adoreable!

Hi Lorelei! I've been watching your videos for a while and after hearing about the reproductive cancer in rabbits I brought my bunny to a rabbit savvy vets. I was told that if my male doesn't have any behavioral issues (spraying, etc) then it really doesn't matter much about getting him fixed. She told me its actually way more common for females to get cancer, and is pretty uncommon in males. Just wondering where you found the 75% statistic? I tried researching it but could never find any statistics.

Great video! However, I must push back a little bit on #6. I have two male rabbits that are definitely a bonded pair. They’re so cute together, we call them husbuns. 🥰🥰 We got them when they were both around three months old, one a few weeks after the other, so they developed a baby bond. Then when their hormones kicked in, we separated them until they were neutered. They stayed in side-by-side pens until they were healed. Once we reintroduced them, they re-bonded pretty quickly without much help from us. They now free roam in their own room, and they often cuddle and groom each other. It’s absolutely adorable. 😇

I agree! I have 2 male rabbits who have been bonded for 4 years. It was honestly not too hard to bond them because they lived near each other in separate pens until the younger one was neutered. They are not from the same litter, one is a lop and the other a lionhead, and they have very different personalities! I do have to deal with some occasional humping/chasing, but otherwise they get along very well.

That's very sweet and all but not all previously bonded rabbits can be re bonded after being neutered. I have a neutered pair of previously bonded rabbits and my submissive anxious little treasure will never ever give the more dominant bun any of his time, he is traumatised by the chasing and biting that occurred prior to separation. He Hates mirrors as well, he doesn't cope well with other animals and is perfectly happy just being loved by his mummy (me) although I wish I could re bond them my little Pumpkin doesn't want to and what he doesn't want he doesn't get

All my bunny's prior to the one I have now were female so as a first time buck owner, I can confirm, they definitely do make more mess. He was also very aggressive until I got him neutered, I had a few bites from him that drew blood just from trying to get his bowls for food and water, nowadays, I get the occasional grunt. He's also a lot more affectionate than he was before neutering but it's always on his terms.

25+ years experience with male rabbits: never neutered one of them, never had any trouble, all lived 10-14 years. Current rabbit 12 years old. Poop more: no. Slow at learning: no. Sexual frustrated: no. Spraying: no. Male rabbits are sweeter than female and bond better with you. Also it's fine to pickup your rabbit and cudle with him, the more you do it the more they get used to it (don't over do it). And always respect your rabbit, if he (really) doesn't want to be picked up, let him be.

Many thanks for talking about the boys. I have two male rabbits that I've 'adopted'. They're both neutered and groom each other. I've had them 5 months now and have not seen a fight but I am aware that this had to be dealt with by their previous 'guardians' who had them neutered. They live in a hutch in my garden which opens up onto lawn and I'm very pleased that they've got grass to run around on and areas they can happily hide. I'd love to give them more space. One of the boys is very gentle and calm and the other one is an excitable explorer.

But thankfully my bunny is gentle, litter trained and has never pooped or peed anywhere else except in his litter box. I used teaching methods which I learned from watching your channel, your channel has been a real help and now I have a (mostly) free roaming rabbit.

We have had whole buck rabbits for house rabbits for decades. Some have sprayed at first, but as stated in your video they stop. Be with them everyday for at least an hour or more in the morning when they get ready for bed, and in the evening as they get ready to go rabbit! Time with your rabbit is critical to their everything. Just think of them as a REAL family member, and treat them as such. Rabbits are the best!

I have 2 male rabbits that are both neutered. I tried to bond them, but it did not go well. Now they both have their own exercise pens (with barriers to prevent them from fighting between the bars) and get let out a different times of the day to free roam. Both are rescues and the one little Lionhead, Venom, was a surrender to a local bunny rescue. I took him to get neutered and come to find out after being put under and cut open he was already neutered before. He did NOT forgive me for months lol.
