For me, Doja is done: my life is not so uneventful, my self-esteem so low, and I do not so lack talent and creativity of my own that I need or want to continue supporting someone who is nasty toward supporters with glee. To my way of thinking execs gave her Normani’s promotion budget which a massive budget tends to inflate and obscure how good the Artist actually is, and now she is feeling hyper-vulnerable and her insecurities are being triggered by this fact that she actually has to prove up in a context where the broadest audience is better equipped to identify gimmicky BS than ever before, plus the fact that she lacks real control over a career she told us several times in several ways she is not enjoying. I am too grown and value my attention span too much to keep giving Doja the type of attention that will make her ungrateful, rude ass richer. I’d much rather support Independent Artists like Tinashe and form COMMUNITIES that can hold people reasonably accountable, than to keep making strangers and two-faced Scammer-artists just in it for a cash grab obscenely rich and wealthy to where they can treat me like shit and be utterly without consequences.

It’s like she tried to create a moment but it wasn’t genuine. She created beef with her followers, she decided to change her look for shock value, and she is constantly online stirring the pot. It’s not like the Brittney Era or the Nicki mix tape era. Those were true and real moments in music. Doja just came across trying to force a narrative to build buzz around the album. The satanic imagery was unnecessary and it actually took away from the music. Edit: this is just my opinion. You can feel how you wanna feel but don’t be disrespectful or weird in these comments. Doja tried to pull a Lady Gaga & be the next “shock and awe” artist but the problem is Gaga goes full, head first into her eras while remaining on point & making sure that, no matter how weird or misunderstood it may be, she 1) stands by her work 2) does the research so everything from her outfits to videos have a purpose 3) doesn’t alienate her base 4) always tries to remain humble & lift other Artist up - hence why she’s one of the most successful artist of all time Doja did the exact opposite
@iynasm47057 ай бұрын
I'm confused? All her songs and videos have a purpose, she stands by her work, and she never did anything to push other artists down? The only thing she did was talk about her OBSESSED fans and said she doesn't want fans to label themselves. I thought her intent was obvious because she doesn't want people creating parasocial relationships and because she wanted to push away fake fans that were pushing the "demonic" narrative and saying they miss the "old her" when she's trying to grow as a person and get away from her more tiktok-made songs.
@LD-tn6ff6 ай бұрын
@@iynasm4705 Her songs and videos don't have a purpose - hence the entire point of this video. Lil Nas did satanic imagery, followed by Kim Petras and Sam Smith. She simply jumped on board the controversy train hoping to amass clout for her album, without actually having a purpose for being the fourth artist in just a year or two to do this. Its sad. And yes, lady gaga puts more thought, research, and artistic reference into her work than virtually anyone - even to a fault. 99.99% of the population for example wasn't remotely knowledgable enough to understand the Artpop era references - something she directs beginning to end.
@squishy32485 ай бұрын
1. Doja 100% stands by her album and the message it contains 2. Her videos and really the whole era is well researched. Demons was riddled with horror easter eggs, Paint The Town has a lot of symbolism, and the general aesthetic has a lot of roots in mythology that she has very openly spoken about. 3. Real fans were not alienated. The only people upset are the ones that got triggered when she called out the weird parasocial relationship they had with her, and of course the men that are upset that they can’t rub one out to her anymore. 4. Why would she be humble to people who have done nothing but bully her the second she stopped being a pretty pink pop girlie? She has every right to talk her shiii. And not lifting other artists up? She is on a tour with Ice Spice and Doechii, showed Nicki love on Attention, and has never directly made a negative comment about anyone in the industry You, like most people whining about Doja, sound extremely ignorant😂

She made all this noise about how this album was gonna be much better but I’ve hardly heard a peep about the album since it dropped. One reason Nicki does so well is because she’s built an extremely loyal fan base the same with Beyoncé and Taylor. They know their fans are their bread and butter and treat them as such. The amount of engagement Nicki has with her fans is amazing. They feel connected to her which makes them support her music. Doja intentionally disrespected her fans for clout and she’s too early in her mainstream career to alienate the fans she has. She’s not solid enough and her foundation hasn’t been cemented yet.

But i fully agree with the opinion that if you use heavy imagery and darker tones you should have something actually worthwhile to say and express, not just “I’m bald now deal with it and also I’m mean now lol” just feels super surface level and for such heavy imagery you need something equally as heavy to balance it out. Just stick to the glittery girlie things that everyone and i mean EVERYONE expects from you !!!! Honestly even when she’s pretending to be a demon or something you can see her previous side trying to come out, like there’s a hint of glitter with everything she does. @iynasm47057 ай бұрын
I can understand what you mean but at the same time, you're looking at the lyrics in a very surface level way. Most of her songs on the album talk about empowering yourself and to not listen to haters. It comes off as aggressive because people have been more vocal against her but she actually talks a lot about her love and for other people to love themselves like she's learned to do. An example is her song Go Off, she says “Get yo bag, don’t stop, ’cause they won’t shut up.” Also, Paint the Town Red wasn't made for the purpose of satanic imagery. Idk if you've been following her but she creates a lot of art on stream and just paints whatever comes to mind. The music video and even some of the lyricism came from those paintings. It was also to play into people's fake narrative because she was being told she partook in "demonic rituals" by shaving her head when that's obviously not true.

The entire reason it sounds somewhat similar (though not really?) to her soundcloud era is because it's music that she truly cares about and is making HERSELF, it's coming straight from her and not set by her label. I'm also not sure where you got that she doesn't participate in the producing of the tracks? I'd like a source on that because she writes all her music and has even made her own beats and everything on instagram lives before?

@siralphey2348 ай бұрын
Finally an opinion I can get behind on this already overrated album. Those big twitter accounts gassing this, could have people fooled. Doja was never really a great or powerful lyricist, but with that album it reeks of mediocrity on that aspect even much, since she positions herself as something she definitely does NOT have the skills and introspection to be. I actually commend the album's production and sonic approaches; most beats are bangers but Doja does the bare minimum. This album is complete smoke and mirrors and by far the weakest in her discography because she just can't exude the artistry and lyricism, she's shouting in articles and on twitter about. I do like Doja as artist still, her rapping skills are undeniable and her ear for melody, cadence and overall performance on a track are one of the finest in her generation. She learned well from Nicki, Missy and Kendrick. But she's not deep, never was, never gave bars or metaphors or whole verses to dissect and think about longingly like her inspirations. And I didn't mind it then cause her technical prowess showed more on a performance and sonic level rather than storytelling, and lyricism. But this whole ra ra she did for this album, for it to be so insignificant in the end is laughable, and makes her look more obnoxious and obtuse, than anything else she thinks she is right now. So she either needs to get real and deep and actually self-aware, challenging herself all the way through, or she needs to just keep it cute cause THIS IS GIVING 0. The so called cash grab was vastly superior in the end.
@reginaldbridgman85218 ай бұрын
While I agree to an extent, I still think it's a cohesive body of work. Unlike the previous albums this album felt a bit more vulnerable, I'll even admit it does get repetitive, and does have a lack of subject matter, but I feel that what makes it beautiful, it's like one big juxtaposition. But I do feel this album is still needing to grow on people, and that's where the whole " this just sounds like it could've been on..." goes out the window because even with songs like Gun or Go off there aren't many similarities between scarlet and the other albums other than she's singing and rapping, while yes some of the lyrics could've been stronger she still wrote them, ALONE, not an excuse for weaker bars but at least she's doing it allowing herself to grow lyrically. Overall this is one of those projects that'll get various reactions and opinions because this is what art should do alongside just being consumed.

@@reginaldbridgman8521 Thank you for your comment. If you liked SCARLET, love that for you. I will probably give it another listen to finalize my thoughts on it, but my take on its artistic merit probably wont change. I really wanted to enjoy this era despite the antics and condescending bs Doja put out there, but I'm glad I actually realized she's no longer an artist that could inspire or transcend things. I really thought with PLANET HER that she really revived and remodeled the interesting and exhilarating pop rap Nicki decided to pause on in 2016. I didn't love PLANET HER like that, but I thought the intent and dedication was commendable. HOT PINK is probably her finest work for me. Like, she really didn't have to insult the body of work in order to say that she doesnt have affinity with those eras and that she wanted a change. She certainly did not have to insult the fans. Cause what she forgets is that if it wasn't for the love people showed to those two albums, she wouldn't have had the chance to release SCARLET. She wouldve probably be shelved by now. And sorry but SCARLET doesn't have the artistic value and emotion to make me turn a blind eye to her arrogance. I don't even care about well it does, I'm not one of those fans who jumped back on her train just because they saw PTTR doing big numbers and wanted to attach themselves to her success, to the fact that they were a fan of an artist who was dominating. The hypocrisy makes me laugh. She made this era about everything but music while claiming the opposite. And I get that now cause the music clearly could not stand on its own. Thank you!!!

It's very disappointing that she threw an internet tantrum, got us hyped and put out a lousy album. All of that for what? It's a very disappointing album and I hope she does better next time because this ain't good for her at all. There's like two songs that I fw and that's a BIG OL SHAME for an album that has 15 songs on it. I feel like this album was rushed honestly. A lot of the songs are about her RECENT dramas so it's pretty clear that she just first drafted all the lyrics/ideas and put it out like that.
@iynasm47057 ай бұрын
I don't think it was an internet tantrum? She's fed up with people bashing her now because they "miss the old her". Could you imagine experiencing that? Trying to grow as a person and move away from a certain ideal that was set on you by the industry and obsessed fans and people keep trying to hold her down to what she was in the past? She called her last albums cash grabs because that's what they were. It wasn't meant in a negative way, more so in a way that it was catered to more of the "tiktok" & "pop" audience and she wants to create more music that's meaningful to HER. Plus, the drama has been going on for a while. Many people refused to call her a rapper (even though she is?) and many people started coming for her when she shaved her head. The wild rumor that she partook in "satanic rituals" and that's why she had to shave her head (as well as people calling her ugly) has been going around for a while which is why she took the ball and ran with it. It's totally okay to not like her music but if you're calling it lousy simply because you can't understand her intent + lyrics within the album, I think you should give it more time before completely judging.

Lackluster album sales proves nothing in today's time. Idk abt you but the attention is actually really good for her. Within the past month or two, she's gained around 25 million monthly listeners on just spotify alone and within the past year or so she's tripled her net worth. I think she's doing fairly good for herself and most people like the album. The only people I see that dislike it are mostly people with personal biases against her and refuse to listen to it.

And yeah there is definitely no accountability in this record for the huge part she played in the narratives she is critiquing. I think what makes a rap album (or any album really) truly great is when an artist is able to honestly admit to their shortcomings and mistakes...think Kanye in my beautiful dark twisted fantasy or even Kendrick on his most recent Mr. Morale album. There's something beautiful about seeing an artist be honest with themself and the public, and I like Doja but this album feels like an entire suck off to how 'great she is" without matching it up with truly incredible music. So I definitely understand what people say when they say that this album was MID. hopefully she learned from the feedback & improves.

The singles kind of grew on me, but when we got the whole album, I thought it was boring. I think it was the flow on most of them. The beats were also not as unique as her past albums.

What irritates me is that she acted like this was gonna be something soooo different. She got mad at fans , changed her looked and everything. Only for these songs to sound like they would be on her last two albums lmaooo

It was different tho! You guys said she couldn’t rap so she proved it . This album was amazing dude

Honestly, She should have just make an album of all her unreleased music as a thank you to her fans post Hot Pink and Planet Her and kept it pushing instead of all the embarrassing self hating nonsense.

Scarlett has been on REPEAT on Spotify because she is just that RAW HBIC! A lot of these comments are extremely biased & that is TELLING as Hell 😮 Damn Chloe Bailey's Album Pieces had the EXACT same criticism as Doja's Scarlett. I'm just convinced folks be Hating because folks be triggered an Artist doesn't be Paying Broke Folks with nothing to do ATTENTION! ( see what I did there lol?) Personally I Fucks heavy with WYM Freestyle, Ouchies, Gun, Demon, Skull ☠️ & Bones, Often, Algora Hills, and Balut. It gave me that O.G Gangsta 90's Rap Vibe. To the true Doja Supporters...... We Ate Good This Album Boi!!! Shalom ☺️

"All I Do is Think of You" is a song originally by the Jackson 5, not Troop.

I don't care too strongly personally about her but this hip hop rap album was fire. 😂 her music is good lol

Thing is, say what you will but I know A LOT of people who really love Paint The Town Red, it's not exactly groundbreaking hip hop but it's a great, catchy song which Doja has always been excellent at
