If my camera work didn't ruin it for you, and you appreciated me uploading it, contribute (if you can spare) a buck or two. I make no money from views, all ad revenue goes to the acts. I wonder who does get the money though. The artist or the record companies? The artist owns the 'author' rights and typically the record company owns the 'mechanical recording' rights. But they didn't record it... I did.
paypal.me/Willi... It may interest you that donations of $20 or more gain access a link for the fully uncompressed version, typically 13 GB/hr or $10 gets you a 2 GB/hr version, (KZbin versions are crunched 10:1 or about 250 Mb/hr) Some are reformatted to 16X9 like the version posted here. All donations are provided with a link to a comprehensive spreadsheet itemizing extensive details of the William G channel videos.
*This show has been reformatted into 16X9 from the original 4X3 aspect ratio. Some head cropping may occur.
It may incorporate digital stabilization and some slight edits.
Life is short, don't spend too much of it watching other peoples videos. Make your own.
Enjoy.
Also that day...
Metallaica • Metallica Rich Stadium...
Scorpions • Scorpions Live in Buff...
and Van Halen • Van Halen Live in Buff...
The way I got the gear in (for this and a few other shows) is a funny story. I needed a longer rod for mounting the camera than I
used initially (40" rather than 14") but found the best way to get it in was to spray paint it white, put on dark glasses and use it to tap my way in. It usually precluded being searched when I did this anyway. I called it blind mans bluff.
I shot more minutes that day than I had batteries for, twice as many, so I put a charger in a garbage can in the concession area and dragged it in front of a power receptacle; had to keep going back and forth, sometimes during the actual shows, to switch out packs.

I used to bring a disc camera for still shots if anyone remembers those, they were nice and small & easy to conceal. Also, I used to have a set of bar-noculars I'd wear around my neck in plain sight. They looked real but were actually hollow, the eye pieces were caps that unscrewed.

@@patton303 nothing to do with sneaking anything in, but when I was 18, i took a 6hr bus ride to go watch Ace frehley play at the HOB. I was so tired and didn't eat that day, so when i got there, i figured I'd try to get a drink anyways. They had waitresses walking, taking orders and upon ordering, I proceeded to 'look' for my id. Man i looked and felt so stupid that i just ordered a Pepsi instead, but when she came back, she gave me a half n half. Even though it was heavy on the soda side, i had an awesome time at that show. Dude, i also got a 'fist clench' and wink by ace when he was jamming on my side of the stage. So tranquil

It sucks to think that Dokken were just one album away from being the pop metal kings of the late 80s and early 90s. According to Don Dokken himself, the tensions mixed with the drugs and booze really tore them apart.

nah man… listen to Don’s solo album “Up From The Ashes” That album was pretty much the next Dokken album. Don said he had wrote most songs on that album while making “Back For The Attack” hell, some of the songs on that album were going to be on “Back For The Attack” To be honest im kind of glad it turned out the way it did… Mikkey Dee’s drum work on that album is probably the best in the genre, far better than Mick Brown’s drumming, and Mick is pretty good himself…

Up From the Ashes is awesome! I listen to that album more than Dokken albums lol. Don did an awesome solo album. I'm born in 94 and that album came out in 1990 i couldn't believe it when i heard it for the first time. I thought it was a classic Dokken 80s song. Mirror Mirror. This is when i had Pandora. Now i have Spotify. I looked at the song playing and the album had Don Dokken on it. I also love the song Stay. The guitar intro in that song is so good. Wish they made rock like that today....im a classic rock, 80s metal and hard rock guy. My parents took me to see Styx, Foreigner, and Def Leppard back in 2007. Such a good concert. Jeff Pilson is now the bass player i believe for Foreigner hes really good. I wish Don still had the voice he had years ago but hey we all get old. George can still play. Im glad i grew up listening to good rock. 👍 🤟

Jeff Pilson claimed that the biggest regret with this tour is that the band wasn't in best form or at the top of their game and that they were better during the previous tour. I think they sound pretty fuckin good. This is one of Don's better performances. George was awesome as usual. Sounds tight to me.

Yep. They were just about done touring for their Back For The Attack album, when mgt. talked them into doing this tour. They were burned out, and Dokken and Lynch completely loathed each other at this point. The band sadly broke up right after Monsters of Rock. Like a lot of posters say, they were probably one album away from being a name band like Motley Crue and Poison, but shit happens. Sadly, by the time they reunited, grunge had taken over, and most fans didn't care about them getting back together.

i saw them on this tour in LA - i was a big fan but honestly they didn't seem to cut through very well where I was sitting which was on the 50 yard line, front row in the stands, left side (right where the gates got busted down by Metalica fans). They didn't seem even close to being loud enough. Whatever the reason I wasn't impressed by the live performance, it was very weak compared to everyone else. I don;t know if Kingdom Come played or we were just late them not included. Metalica was also tough to follow which was part of it. I'm still a fan played the first 4 records a lot. This show seems pretty good. This is the first live performance recording I have heard/seen that is even decent IMO-- glad it's exists. The rocording quality is good enough.

@@1FeistyKitty we caught them in Houston on this tour. Don had a mini meltdown during their set, seems like they were having some monitor issues. He threw down his mic and stomped off stage for a bit. Bummer as it was the only time I got to see them. Other fun fact: Giant trash "fight" broke out later that afternoon and I was nearly hit in the face with a bottle of suntan lotion! It was at Rice Stadium and some people were throwing down those brown paper towel rolls from the upper deck, ouch!

I was at this show right on the barricade om front of George. Got there early so we could hit that spot. The security guard in front of us was cool as he kept filling our canteens for us. Kingdom Come was kinda boring. Metallica made their intentions known of taking over the world. Dokken sounded rockin, but you could see the writing on the wall that this band was not feeling it with each other. The Scorpions were good, but I was kinda burnt on them as I had seen them 4 times in the past year. Rudy threw his guitar in the air and misses catching it, and it nearly skidded of the stage. hahaha Van Halen was a lot of fun. I enjoyed this show more than the 5150 tour and equally as much as the 1984 tour.

You feel sorry for the kids today. Yeah, they are gonna outlive us. But we got Van Halen and they get Drake. Doesn't seem quite fair. I'll take it though. It was a blast! I've seen Dokken twice. Once as openers for Judas Priest and the 1988 Monsters of Rock at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. 80k in attendance. Love watching George Lynch shred. Love it!

Dokken is solid. I used to talk to Jeff Pillson at LA Fitness, Van Nuys, circa 1996, but didn't put 2 + 2 together. We talked football, and he's a Packers fan. I used to know his wife Ravinder, from LA fitness Sherman Oaks. LA life, what can I say. And I used to talk to Rudy Sarzo at LA Fitness, Sherman Oaks, circa 1994, and didn't put 2+2 together. We had long philosophical talks about Cuba. U know he's Cuban?

I saw this Monsters of Rock tour at Giants Stadium in NJ. Across the Hudson River from Manhattan. I went strictly to see Metallica back then. AJFA hadn't even come out yet. MOP was their latest release. Scorpions were good too! VH with Hagar I could take or leave back then. Hagar being in VH was still a new and strange thing for me in 88. But I'll always respect Eddie of course. Back in 1988 I felt like Dokken was soft and bubble-gum rock. I never got into them. But looking back on it.....all those bands on that tour are awesome. Including Kingdom Come...whom played first. You don't know what you got until it's all gone! I wish I could turn back time. I was 21 at this concert.i miss the 80's so much. Peace.

At the Detroit show (PontiacSilverdome) George stood as far off stage as possible; he only stepped out and up for his solos, and kept as far away from Don. Well, kinda hard NOT ta be "depressed" when you are told at the last band meeting that "EVERYONE IN BAND is basically being LET GO, EXCEPT for the singer BUT? Are required to fulfill the contractual agreement of performing at the Monsters of ROCK, right BEFORE being "let go" so the lead singer can put together a WHOLE NEW BAND..... Yeah 👍 "Think?🤔" I'd be a bit depressed, too......

Great show. This how a rock band should look on stage. Bassist Jeff Pilsen rocking 7 svt 8 x10 cabs & one looks like a 1 4x10 cab George with 5 full Marshall stacks & 2 half stacks..lots of energy nobody staring at their dirty sneakers playing through combo amps. Not saying they’re using all of it but it looks cool as hell. I’ve talked to Jeff & drummer Mick Brown a couple times. Very down to earth cool dudes. Saw MOR at the Silverdome, 2nd row. Crazy show, Scorps were so loud. Dokken kicked it hard, Mick Brown was out of his mind. So was George Lynch. The lead singer from Kingdom Come, wherever he went everyone flipped him off, pretty humorous. They weren't bad, James Kottak on drums. Metallica was raw and superheavy. My left ear was probably permanently damaged from that day. Missed VH to go see Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea at Pine Knob. Thanks for the upload!

I saw thie concert when it came to Spokane, WA on July 20th, at Joe Albi Stadium, and it was my first major rock concert I'd been to. Dokken was good, although you could tell that they were not getting along too well, especially Don and George, as they would avoid being near each other during their set. Also, when George did his guitar solo, he had his back turned towards the crowd the entire time, but other than that, they sounded good. Metallica was on fire, and they blew an amp on stage, which went up in smoke, hehehe!!! Scorpions kicked ass as usual, and Van Halen rocked the place! I didn't realize they were hiring extra people afterwards to help with dismantling the stage, load out, etc, and they paid you with a free t-shirt and around $100, or so. Best concert ever!!
