This is really cool, but I think the better solution is to buy a 001 model. Cause not only do you have both of the ports instead of simply switching one, but also, the kit and labor costs is probably the same as selling a 101 and then buying a 001 model console. This is still really cool though, keep up the good work!

Great Video, Try not to completely fold flex cables, if they get folded enough, there is a chance there will be a break in the connection within the cable

I was playing on my modded GC the other day. I fitted a clear purple full size disc case from HK's Lik-Sang, its got a "jolly roger" mod chip and I even fitted a selection of UV and coloured LED's inside so it glows furiously when on. It isn't a bad machine considering its age and the only game I ever play is Skies of Arcadia although my youngest still runs her Sonic 2 Chao.

very nice mod. Another method. , I sent to a modder in China, he used a compatible NTSC RGB encoder and rgb amp to restore GC RGB signals. This way can keep composite, s-video and add RGBs signals. The RGBs can output 480p singals with ossc, gbsc and retrotink 5x on my IPS screen. The picture quality is slightly better then official or GCVideo component cable.

10:02 -- when soldering the flex to this chip, does it matter that the board has lead-free solder? I saw Long Island Retro use lead-free in his video for this step, but all the others I've seen don't mention it. Just curious about your take.

I think it matters a little, because it makes it a little harder, but the idea is you can tin the pins with leaded solder first, which "waters down" the lead-free solder with leaded solder to make it a little easier

I have the 101 model and it has the digital av out. Which is weird I thought the 101 didn't have the digital av out. I got it at a goodwill

Hmm, 101s don't have a digital AV port, maybe someone replaced 001 the shell with a 101 shell, if it says that on the bottom. The shells are pretty much interchangeable, the only thing different is the back panel which you can switch out.

@@dpacyau the shells are not easily interchangeable. Even after cutting plastic to make it fit, you have to add washers to not warp the case when you tighten the bolts.

If you can afford it, the Hakko FR 301 is what I use. Tim, I have one of those cheap ZD-915 stations. They go by many brands, but all looks the same. It's functional & does a good job, haven't had any issues except for the occasional blockage (normal). Perfect if you only desolder components occasionally.

do you still need to use the audio jack even if your using the Carby? Like can I do this mod and plugin the carby and im good to go or do you only get sound if you use the audio jack?

Unfortunately I don't have this GameCube anymore, so I can't test that, but I don't think you need to use the analog audio port if you are using the Carby. I believe the audio jack is for use with official component cables, since these cables don't include audio cables

That's basically what I'm going to say 😅. Not that's not a cool mod, it's really great, but yeah, is way more easy to buy a DOL 001 than mod a DOL 101. Dol 101 have is own charm, and it's really great for CRT set up. + The PAL GameCube support RGB video, so a DOL 101 EUR with a GC Player and Gameboy Interface is a awesome combo for a Game Boy Set Up on CRT/PVM/Upscalers.

Really cool video! Thanks for doing these! I'd rather try finding a DOL-001 before I do this mod though :D The GameCube has sooooo many screws, and the install is also quite some workload. But it's super cool, that there's a way to "fix" DOL-101s now.
