This song alludes to Bono cheating on his wife in New York "Lose your life, lose your wife". Writing on the 23 anniversary of 9/11. I was up in the south tower three months before. This album was released before 9/11 and the song reminds me of it. I follow U2 when they tour, all over the world. I was in Cleveland at a Bon Jovi show between U2 Elevation tour shows. Adam Clayton, Bono and the Edge came in during the show. Adam sat right behind me in an empty row. I told him we flew there to see U2 two days earlier and were driving to another show the following week in Columbus. We spoke throughout the show. He was a really nice guy who thanked me for being such a devoted fan. He remembered my name because he yelled goodbye to me as their security was escorting them out of their luxury suite. These memories, the 9/11 tragedy and the thrill of meeting them on this tour shortly before are intertwined forever in my mind. Thanks for listening on this sad day.

This song reminds me of the difficult and sad days in the aftermath of 911. The war on terror was in full swing. We just flattened Afghanistan, and we were getting ready for the invasion of Iraq.The air was poisoned by Sadness, anger and fear. It was really overwhelming😢

Its brilliant. No one will ever confuse Edge with guys like Jimi Hendrix, Brian May, Stevie Ray Vaughan, etc. I don’t mean that as an insult. Thats just not the style of guitarist he is. Having said that… Edge is a sonic architect in ways those guys just aren’t. The only reason I bring this up is in reply to your statement about the atmosphere he creates. He’s as good as anyone not named Jimmy Page in the history of rock at constructing sonic architecture and textured atmosphere using only a guitar. It’s why a lot of times people who aren’t familiar with the band and it’s style think they’re hearing more than one guitarist if they’re listening to a track for the first time.

Watching this on 9/11 2024. Looking at the album cover…This song and album came out in 2000 and the irony is that this cover is in an airport and a year later on 911 planes ✈️ would fly into the Twin Tower buildings in New York! May it NEVER happen again anywhere on earth 🌎🌍 🌏
@StephenOBG4 ай бұрын
Its the Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris, France. To be honest I really cant stand low iq people like yourself. So any album cover inside an airport year before is connected?. So any album with planes on it 12months before relate to 9/11? What? So an album cover from a French airport, and song called New York from an Irish rock band relates to 9/11. R U freeekin insane? U from the USA per chance, did you vote for Trump? The logic in that comment. Complete and utter lowest of all the iq's. Please god make u make sense. Unreal.

NY is the only non-disappointing song from ATYCLB. For me, a diehard 80's and 90's U2 fan, this album was a shockingly poor successor to the mighty "Pop", and it pretty much killed my interest in the band. So glad I could see them live during PopMart Tour in 1997. 25 years later and it's still one of the best live shows I've ever attended.
