The only way you could make a wedding cake for $20 would be if you didn’t have to buy any tools, or supplies and you made a small cake comparable to a simple birthday cake. However I did once make a wedding cake for someone for about $25 (usd), but that didn’t include the cake stand, or the fresh cut flowers, and it was about 10 years ago. It was very small and simple, but it was beautiful. It was exactly what the bride requested. It was a 6in, single tier cake with off white buttercream, and fresh cut flowers, on a pedestal. Then I also made them 200 cupcakes. So their order was still around $600.

Pro-tip: If you want to make a homemade pizza and put pineapple on top, strain the juice from the canned pineapple then put it on a lined baking tray and bake it at 375F for 20 or so minutes until the edges start to darken. It keeps the pizza from going soggy, and the caramelization of the natural sugars gives you a deeper flavor profile.

2:44 Like 15 years ago or something I got a cookbook where the devil cake recipe had a tiny bit Coca Cola in it, and it actually turned out good! It wasn’t enough to flavor the cake, and it worked great. It made the cake a bit more airy and soft, kinda. The amount was small enough to not affect the flavor, so I guess that might be the difference too, looked like you put a lot more in than the recipe I used had. My mom also decorates all her cakes with flower in the summer, but she only uses edible flowers though, since a lot of flowers are actually edible. It makes it so fun for the kids in the family (nephews etc) to eat for some reason 😅

This was a lot of fun because I started decorating cakes with these ingredients. When I got into baking by family wasn't well off. Dollar stores here do have a refrigerated section with half dozens of eggs, butter, milk, cream or creamer/half n half, etc. But also, I think those are things most households probably keep on hand regularly. I'd love to see you make a scratch cake, filling and icing with dollar store staples, but use eggs, butter, etc. since those are things most people will have on hand. Also, if you still want to stick to only things you can buy at your dollar store, you could try a mayonnaise cake. Probably would taste better than using a soda, since it doesn't leave a flavor behind.

Our dollar stores have mayo and I have definitely used it as an egg replacement in cakes. Echoing folks that commented before, there are better sodas to use with chocolate like Dr. Pepper, cherry cola, or club soda for no flavor added. Decorating wise, if they have tinned chickpeas you could make a vegan meringue with the liquid in the tin. That could add some texture. Usually our dollar stores have some chocolate chips of some sort and jello/gelatin and you could do a mirror glaze cake with those.
