Even if they did eat the entire meal it's only $5.80, that's a good price compared to what it would cost to go eat at mcdonalds until you are full or any other fast food restaurant at that. Even before this virus.

That is exactly why I like this guy. Most people are not very good cooks. He is inventive even if I don't exactly like what he is cooking. Most people just need to give things a shot and like his opening intro. The idiots comment about quantity aren't trying to help like he is.

Mr. Wolfpit is seriously an invaluable resource. Cooking is not something that is commonly taught these days, and having this resource is incredibly useful for those who want to have cheap and delicious meals! It makes me sad that some people are so used to their excessive lifestyle that they struggle to empathize with those who struggle. Life's tough, and there's no shame in trying your hardest to make your current situation as comfortable as possible!!

Hell, powdered eggs at the homeless shelter tasted better at the time than any IHOP breakfast I've had since. The vast majority of people don't understand what real hunger is and the fear and helplessness of going multiple days with no food. My mom grew up during the Depression. She and her siblings lived with their uncle. It was common in those days when it was time for dinner to send any kids who didn't live in that house home as nobody had extra. Uncle Bob never sent kids home. He would ask if their mother was expecting them, but if they wanted to stay that was fine. He'd count noses and if there were extra kids he would cut the meat smaller and throw in more potatoes. Depression cooking was all about stretching what you had to feed who was at the table. You're doing good work!

I suspect that the people that think our current medical situation, here in America is good, have never been sick beyond a flu. That, or they are self centered shit heads that can't see past the end of their nose. Ramen stir-fry tip from an Asian: Place ramen in boiling water. The temperature will immediately drop. Add a cup of cold water as soon as it reboils. The temperature drops again. When the water starts bubbling again (not a full boil), drain and rinse in cold water. Stir-fry when ready. This technique ensures the noodles retain a chewy, bouncy texture perfect for stir-frying so you don't end up with mushy noodz. Congrats! You have now reached level ASIAN.

Running under cold water stops the cooking process. When I make mac and cheese for a potluck or office party, I cook the pasta for 3.5 minutes at home at a rapid boil, then immediately remove from heat and pour in as much ice-chilled water as the pot will allow, then run under the tap. Literally 1 additional minute of cooking is too much. If done right, the noodles end up slightly firmer than al dente. Later, I melt down all my cheese ingredients and add the pasta. The cooking process completes to al dente and the final product has perfect texture, instead of turning the pasta into a smeary mush.

many people forget to balance nutrition when on a budget. you have to eat some cheap meat or beans daily so you get enough protein and you need enough veggies for proper nutrition (potatoes, onions, and cabbage are great and cheap) or you'll get sick eventually and the malnutrition will just make you feel hungrier and lead to overeating or spending money by splurging on something expensive but nutritious

@Katastroofi Eelne Not really... you get 5 ramen for a buck and it makes a ton of noodles. The same weight of spaghetti doesn't produce as much because spaghetti doesn't absorb as much water or feel as filling as ramen does ... my guess is it is because of the wavy nature of the ramen, it "fakes" your body to think it's fuller when it really isn't.

They each had their favorite foods and I taught them how to make them. Oddly enough they were all inexpensive foods to make that could be made in large quantities and eaten on all week! Ham & beans w/cornbread, chicken & dumplings, pasta dishes, pancakes, and more! If you are willing to put in just a little effort, it is less expensive and healthier to make your own food! Super important as a college student or someone with limited funds.

Almost all my life I've had plenty to eat and didn't have to worry about my next meal but back during the 08 crash my families remodeling company was out of work for about 3 1/2 months straight and we ran out of money to buy food and our electricity was being cut off, it was either keep the lights and don't eat or eat in the dark. That was a rough time having to go to our church and family members asking for food, it humbled us and really opens your eyes that many people have lived this way a long time and for some it's a daily reality. So these videos are really great and will help people for sure.

I went to local food banks for a long time when I lost a job about that same time....learn to be appreciative for anything you can get...one volunteer at a church even gave me a $20 bill. I prayed for him to be blessed to give more. Afterwards, seemed strange to go into a grocery store and pay all that money for food...I still shop bargains and at the Dollar Tree.

@Pxstel Mess you won't get sick off this, this is more then likely a older pig that was killed so it's meat will be tougher to eat and not as flavorful. Realistically butchering an animal doesn't cost that much nor is it expensive to actually buy one. For $150 you can get a young pig and butcher it and have fresh bacon, sausage, ham, tenderloin etc etc. But the older the animal is the cheaper it generally will sell for because of the meat becoming tougher, the flavor downgrading and a few other factors.

When I was broke during the recession of 2008, I'd buy a whole bag of groceries for $20 in Aldi (german store in Ireland) - stuff like instant noodles (25c/pack), pasta, cheap luncheon meat, etc...I was very happy with that food. Sometimes I was really broke and just ate spaghetti with melted butter mixed through it. I was just happy to have food LOL

When we were just starting out in the early 90's we had many weeks where that $20 budget was all we had for the two of us. It was enough to keep us full but it was pretty tight. Fast forward to the great recession with a 50 week unemployment and our food budget was roughly double yours per person. We had an avalanche of cherry tomatoes from our garden, we stocked up on bowtie pasta when it was on sale and our fish guy had wild caught, Atlantic shrimp on sale for $7.50/lb. I made a great dish with the shrimp, garlic, pasta, halved tomatoes and petite peas. The sauce was based on a broth I made by sauteing the shrimp shells and a few aromatics which I then simmered in 2 cups of chateau de sink (water). We got 2 meals for $10 or $2.50/serving and it was hard to feel deprived of anything with such a delicious and filling meal. Sometimes the best things in life are incredibly affordable. I hope you're doing at least as well as as we are these days, good luck.

I have made several of your recipes this past week. When I made this one, I left out the seasoning - I have high blood pressure so I don't add anything with too much sodium - and I added, half a sauteed onion, 3 cloves of garlic and 2 heaping soup spoons of plain whole milk yogurt. It came out really good.
