I’ve had great success with American seed company. The most prolific tomatoes I grew last year were the large cherry tomatoes. They were delicious. It cost me 30 cents and I was giving pints and pints away, it was a tomato jungle. 🍅 🍅🍅🍅🍅

I had the attitude that those seeds couldn't be any good but I tried them and had great success! Last year my Dollar Tree sold them 4 for a $1. I haven't checked this year. A few years ago I couldn't find yellow string beans any place I looked. They had 2 packs left so I bought them (4 for a $1). They were prolific!! The same with Sweet William, Calendula, Snapdragons, Zinnia, Petunias and a lot more. I put the petunias all over my yard in ground and pots. The next year I noticed little baby petunia seedlings growing in the flower beds and in the cracks around areas where I had hanging pots. I dug them up potted and planted them and had another season with a ton.of Petunias. As I remember it I didn't even use all the seeds from that one pack! The Calendula and Sweet William re-seeded, too. The plants were very strong and large. I live in a cold, snowy area in the Northeast so who knew?

Check germination by putting seeds between moist paper towels, and then put them in a freezer bag or similar plastic wrap. If you see roots and stems coming out of the seed shell, you're good. And you can plant them as well.
@FlowerPatchFarmhouse5 сағат бұрын
I do that with many plants but others have a hard time transferring them to the soil effectively so going straight into the soil is great too. I use a coffee filter instead of paper towel as the roots don't get tangled in the fibers as easy. But if we want to just sacrifice a few seeds to test then that is a different story. 🤓

I have had great success with Dollar Tree seeds. I have used them for years and they have been fine. I especially like them for vegetables. I have a nice garden, but space is always limited, and I don't want to grow a whole regular package full of most seeds. So paying $3 for a package of tomato seeds and then only growing 2 tomato plants (of any one variety), is a lot more expensive than buying Dollar Tree seeds. I will still buy other seeds, to assure a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, but for things like broccoli, cabbage, chard, etc., Dollar Tree seeds have been great for me.

I've only tried the herbs (parsley / dill / basil) from Dollarama in Canada. Had good success with them! But one thing I have to mention is there was very few seeds so you'd need multiples if you want to do the veggies. Small online seed companies still the best value for me and shipping is inexpensive (for me) for both Canada and US orders.

I just subbed and LOVE this video!!!!! If you or anyone can answer this....."I hear that the veg that American or Dollar Tree seed produce is not good to eat"....I did read on the packets that the seeds are Non-GMO...any answers will be appreciated. Thank you
@FlowerPatchFarmhouse10 сағат бұрын
All seeds available to us consumers are Non-GMO except 1. The one now available that is GMO is the purple tomato that was crossed with snapdragons and was released last Spring. The non-GMO moniker is marketing. There is no reason for the vegetables of the American seed company seeds to be less nutritious than any others you would buy. Much of what happens as far as the nutrional value of the fruits and vegetables you grow at home is your soil health which is why I preach that loud and clear. Soil health is the first thing any gardener should consider when planning a garden.

American seed use to have a program where their seeds were sold by the public-mainly many kids and I was one of them 😅. If our school would have had better curriculum I probably would have been a botanist. We have a similar store and will take a look. You are so lucky not to get this polar plunge in temps. We will have 40F Friday and by Sunday it’s going below zero and they say with colder windchills. Our snow is down south. I’m not sure I will have too many overwintered surprises. Last frost 5/15 in this Z5, WI, but for better guarantee wait till June. I’ve been using low tunnels in April for brassicas. Hey-how long did it take to get your order from Select Seeds? It seems they are taking an awful long time as two other companies I received already. Holding my breath after reading some reviews 😬🥴. I got Rose Campion coming that I’ve seen in your garden 😅 and Verbena Bampton and …a few others 😂.

ANY of these will probably work. But my concern is not saving a few cents. What I now realize is that 99% of home gardeners do not need more than a few seeds / plant. We're not trying to fill city blocks. I get 90% at Migardener. (Not a paid ad - wish it was! LOL) The online store lets you browse for $2 packages! But what I like is the huge selection, service, specials, volume and germination (right at 100%). I retain packages for the next year. Tiny seeds (like coleus) yield volumes of 40 to 50 in a 3" cup. I can't learn my lesson - anyone want 22 Pimento plants or 75 Fennels??
