Hey friends! Today I'm showing you some ideas for appetizers for the Super Bowl, or any gathering really, using only ingredients from the Dollar Tree. I had so many ideas, but narrowed it down to only a few, and tried to avoid doing the usual "tried and true" easy recipes like deviled eggs or crockpot meatballs.
The dishes I did make are: nachos, bean and cheese taquitos, fried pickles, fried mac & cheese bites, and sausage pizza balls.
The Dollar Tree isn't always the best value compared to places like Walmart or Aldi, but these videos are more about accessibility, food access, and getting creative with a limited grocery selection.

My grandma is from Mexico and if she cooks anything that requires rolling a corn tortilla, she fries the tortilla in a little oil for a few seconds. Just a few seconds, though. Like less than 10. It helps soften the tortilla and makes it more pliable and less prone to cracking and splitting.

They won’t crack if she warms them up on both sides on comal or pan before filling them, that is how I’ve always made my flautas and they never crack.

Yes, a Lisa Dawn video - it's gonna be a good day! I used to put pickle juice in Bloody Marys when I was a drinker, now I save the juice and marinate chicken breasts in it for home made Chick-fil-A sangwiches. And I always make a full bag of pinto beans because I need to allow for all the spoonfulls I know I'm going to sneak while I'm cooking. A good thing to do with the the mac-n-cheese is to press it into a pan then stick it in the freezer for a bit and slice them into cubes. I LOVE fried mac-n-cheese. Finally, this video supports my belief that cheese makes everything better! And, yeah ---- Super Bowl is mostly about the food for me.

You know, I never thought about that, but portion size is a big issue...when you live by yourself & dont have lots of space to store tons of leftovers (or dont care for them after a awhile), it is better when you can buy smaller portions & use it all up while it is fresh.

Pickle juice makes an amazing marinade for chicken if you haven't tried it. It brines the meat and tenderizes it to perfection.

Really!? Do you add anything else with it?
@squisitissima2810
@squisitissima2810 2 жыл бұрын
@@ashleylynn4538 I don't think you need to. You can thin the pickle juice out with some water it isn't enough to submerge the quantity of meat you want to marinate. But you can add spices or oil or anything else you want. I'm pretty sure Chick-fil-A uses pickle juice in their marinade so if you like their chicken you should give it a try!

I’m going to apologize in advance if this comment is down below I had a wild day at work and I’m exhausted but I want to post a hint for pickle juice. I would not be above drinking it, either it makes awesome pickled eggs. Peel hard boiled egg or three and put them in the jar of the pickle juice and let them sit for a little bit and presto! I also have been known to add it to tuna salad or egg salad for some extra zip. Your appetizer spread looked great. I’m Canadian so we don’t get the cool commercials for the Super Bowl we get the CRTC retread simulcast feed commercials. Translation I’ll be watching Netflix while the rest of you were watching the Super Bowl. And I’ll try to find the commercials online. But for those of you that will be watching I hope you have a great party and enjoy the game!

Great appetizers created for not much money. I would have added an egg plus some bread crumbs into the cooled Mac n cheese mixture. This would help it bind more easily and you could shape them into balls as you had hoped to. They could have just been baked it in the oven 350 for 20 min instead of frying them. Everything looked delicious. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦 🍁

Lisa Dawn, another great video! Suggestion on opening jars... I used to whack them with a knife like that to open them as well, but found that the lids would start to rust in the fridge at the "ding" marks!! Didn't want that for the food inside I wanted to consume. Instead, an individual just needs to disrupt the pressure in the bottle (essentially what you are doing by whacking) by turning the jar upside down and giving the lid a direct thump on the countertop where the entire surface of it hits at the same time. No dings that cause rust, and it is immediately ready for twisting open. Hope you will try it! Keep these coming, and appreciate your messaging about food deserts out there
