Is it possible to do a Dollar Tree Thanksgiving? I did, for my family of 3, and only paid $13.00!
This is not a fancy dinner, but I covered the basics: Entree, sides, and dessert. And it was pretty darn good! Not healthy, but Thanksgiving dinner isn't made to be healthy, right?
On the menu:
-Chicken and stuffing casserole

Thank you for the video, it is very inspiring. Two side notes to anyone reading the comments: To make the food taste more thanksgivingy( is that even a word? 😂) use a tablespoon of soy sauce on the green bean casserole and 1/8 teaspoon of black pepper then in the casserole mix in a 1/2 teaspoon of poultry season into the chicken and soup mixture and 1/8 teaspoon into the gravy.

I get some sides for my Thanksgiving from Dollar Tree but I would never buy the dollar Tree brand cream of mushroom soup. It doesn't taste right. They do carry Campbells and I buy that there.

My wife last year paid less than $20 for a family of six. Turkey's where .39 cents a pound for a 10lb Turkey. She made mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, roasted carrots, deviled eggs, rolls and a apple pie. Plus we had Turkey left over for sandwiches, soup and Turkey fried rice. Not bad at all.

I have been sitting on my couch, unable to sleep, for over an hour (it's 3:23am right now!) , just panicking about what to do since most grocery stores are closed today and I wasn't able to get anything for my Thanksgiving dinner. I'm also on a major budget right now since I don't start my new job until Monday and I've been out of work. But now I have found YOU!! Thank you so so much. Several years ago I was a Thanksgiving orphan! A lot of family members had traveled out of town and others were sick so I decided to have my own dinner by myself! I went to the store and bought a one pound Jenny-O fully cooked turkey, a small can of beans, corn, yams, a box of dressing, a jar of gravy, a tiny pre-made cornbread and a small pie! It was yummy!

Another easy dessert is a dump cake- canned pie filling on bottom of cake pan, sprinkle yellow cake mix over it, melt stick of butter and drizzle over top, bake at 350 for about 45 min! Family loves it!

@@jackieo8693 , yes it does! Mix the pumpkin with the other pie filling ingredients. Do you have any nuts to add? If so add to top with butter. I used vanilla yoghurt and Splenda instead of the canned milk last time, eggs, cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg instead of pie spice. Hopefully that helps. I'm good at figuring out substitutions usually.

I think what you are doing is wonderful you are encouraging people to put something together themselves vs paying a fast food restaurant, microwaving a frozen meal or going without, there are people out there on the tightest budgets imaginable that as you said only have a dollar type store available near them, they may not even have transportation and have to walk or try to find a ride, thank you for remembering people often forgotten.

Growing up, once in a blue moon, we ate the name brand dinner rolls that looked a lot like yours in the package. My advice is to leave them in the oven longer until they are more of a light golden brown than taking them out too soon when they are still white/beige. I sometimes share my suggestions but when you were a single mom raising 2 girls you learn that holidays aren't about a large meal rather about sitting down and being grateful for the food in front of you. I had to be creative with the budget I had. I have respect for the people that are taking the time to share their ideas about doing meals on a budget. Some people weren't taught and have no idea where to start. Plus we are never too old to learn. She does a great job on a budget.

Does Dollar tree have canned sweet potatoes? With brown sugar and butter and canned sweet potatoes you could have candied yams. It would add $2.00 to the budget. You might do a $10 or $15 stock up the first of the year. Get yourself some spices and supplies to keep on hand. That way you could still maintain a strict budget and wouldn’t have to worry about cutting into your actual $5.00 budget for dinner. I’m going back and watching all those budget meals and I’m insisting my granddaughters watch them so they can make some budget meals for then end of the month when food stamps are gone and there’s still four days left in your month.

the staple at our Thanksgiving is : Magic Corn. 2lbs of frozen corn + 1 block of cream cheese + 1 stick of butter, season with garlic powder. Put in crockpot until everything melts together. Never ever any leftovers of this!

When you prepare your rolls next time, Pat a bit of butter or margarine on top before you bake them. And cook them until they are toasty brown and they will be great.

I love pumpkin anything, I usually make a really good pumpkin bread. You can use a box of spice cake mix, add small can pumpkin and pumpkin spice, nutmeg,cloves( or not) bake and cream cheese frosting too. That goes over good as well.

Our Thanksgiving plans got canceled at the last minute. I can my meats so I took pint a chicken and crescent rolls and rolled them up and baked them and put cream of chicken soup over the top as a gravy. It was really good

My moms home made stuffing is super simple and not expensive. Loaf of bread, bundle of celery and mushrooms (could use canned) it’s only a few dollars to make fresh. I’m just not a boxed stuffing kinda gal. Or boxed potatoes. I find potatoes and a onion to be inexpensive. I’m in Canada so prices are a bit more here but none of the less you did good on a budget! ☺️

This is for those people who don't have access to the big grocery stores, but do have access to the Dollar Store. How creative! I am actually camping in AZ and only have small grocery stores and a dollar general store nearby, so this was very helpful. I don't have an oven, so I'll need to be creative with my cast iron skillet. As for my personal go-to Thanksgiving dishes that I feel just isn't Thanksgiving without them: Home-made cornbread stuffing! Green beans with bacon, NOT green bean casserole! Crescent rolls, no substitutes! And for desert, pumpkin pie and cherry pie. Oh, and canned cranberry sauce! Thanks for this video. I'm very excited to see how my meal turns out. Happy Holidays!

I love the cornbread boxed stuffing. I use the high end brands and I am so satisfied with the end result. I also use celery hearts minced. 1 Cream corn, 1 cream of chicken soup. it is a very moist stuffing Bakes well . Never dried out , I am always asked to bring it to every meal (all meals) Not only poultry but ham, pork loin lamb, etc Thanks for letting me rave on , sorry for the length of my post . My grandma's staple at Thanksgiving wasn't turkey or stuffing or green bean casserole. She ALWAYS made a grape salad. She always made one at Thanksgiving and Christmas

I did exactly as you did tonight after work and it came out awesome. My husband was impressed. I then showed him this video. He didn't think this could be done so quickly but he has the evidence so he is a believer. Thought I'd try it before Thanksgiving just in case. Thank you for this video. This year was my first time making a Thanksgiving dinner and I was surprised to find items at the Dollar Tree store! I got all of my sides there! Stove Top Stuffing is the best! I have a friend who worked so hard every Thanksgiving making stuffing from scratch. I turned her on to Stove Top and her family preferred it, so she’s never gone back! You just can’t go wrong with it anytime of the year!

When I make dressing, I added 1/2 cornbread and 1/2 stuffing mix. Need to cook dinner rolls until brown on top. It takes about 15 minutes.

Exactly! I don't have a problem with the budget, but it could have been made with more flavor. You didn't season anything to taste, the green bean casserole should have been cooked longer and the mashed potatoes definitely should have been seasoned to taste. I would opt to eat just the rolls like Allison 😜

Everything she bought is soooooooo full of salt, there's no reason to season unless you like alot of salt...which is super unhealthy! In fact that entire dinner, while great for people on a tight budget is awful for your health!

I take my chicken, soup, canned tomatoes (if have), celery, onions and a can of water then mix in the stuffing. Chicken all through the casserole and cheese on top if you like lol. Super easy and delish! Mix a few if the onions in with the green beans and soup. It will absorb some of the liquid to thicken it up a bit. GREAT JOB!

Our Thanksgiving dinner is quite different, I usually have, turkey & gravy, ham,collard greens, string beans,mac & cheese, candied sweet potatoes, potato salad, cranberry sauce, dinner rolls, sweet potato pie, apple pie. I know it seems like a lot, but this is a wonderful normal Thanksgiving Dinner!🙏🏽👍🏼❤

I usually make a skillet of regular cornbread and add it to a box of stuffing mix. The box stuffing mix usually has too much sodium for me and there's plenty of seasonings going on to add cornbread to. Add a can of cream of celery and a can of cream of chicken soup and put it in the oven. Soooo good!!

Truly creative! The only thing missing for me is the cranberry sauce 😊 i would add an additional can of the chicken (one for each person) to help it stretch further. Tip: When preparing packaged meals don't add any salt because the stuffing mix and soup have plenty. You can always add salt at the table.

You could totally brush the rolls with some of the butter after coming out of the oven. Also, you could put gravy on the stuffing/turkey casserole. :)
