I was homeless for 11 months a while back( and i had two little ones with me.) All i had was a microwave, hot plate, and coffeepot. I had to make thanksgiving AND christmas dinners that year in that terrible motel room we were living in and alllll the food came from dollar tree.(the meat i had to get from family dollar) My girls still talk about now too they say it was really good....however the thanksgiving we had this year now that we're in a house and dont have to eat from dollar tree or family dollar is much better lol. I will say it did force me to become seriously creative tho. The mashed fries was something i did alot lol.i wish i seenbthos channel back then!!!! $75 for 6-8 people to eat all that delicious food, is an incredible price. Anymore, you can't eat out, for two, and get anything close to what you served, for under $100!!! $75 for two people, with all those extra meals you'll get out of it, is also a great price. You could chop up the bacon wrapped asparagus and add it to a quiche or an egg bake, or just scrambled eggs, and put some inside the no yeast rolls, as a breakfast sandwich! The ham could also be added to eggs, for egg breakfast sandwiches. I'm 61 years old, and have loved cooking all my life. I just recently started making baked Mac n cheese! I make three batches at a time, so I can freeze two, for future meals, or to give to family if they are sick or have a baby, etc. To cook it, I thaw it out and add heavy cream, to make it more loose. The macaroni sucks up a lot of moisture, along with the freezing process. Even when I heat up leftover Mac n cheese, I pour a little heavy cream or milk in it, and stir it up, to bring back it's moisture.

You said it! We had Thanksgiving for 15 people. My mom and I did all the cooking and we spent a combined $300.00 for all the food. We did eat leftovers for several meals, but it’s still crazy how much is spent for that one meal. It’s not cheap and for the folks that just show up after someone else hosts, decorates, buys all the food, cooks all the food, and cleans up afterwards, I sincerely hope you are really thanking your hosts because that’s a lot of time, energy and money that goes into that one meal. We all have those relatives who come to eat and don’t contribute. 😂

First off, I wanted to start by saying thank you for your service! I am no expert by any means, but I would advise against believing that shopping at Dollar Tree (or any other dollar store) will save you money. Grocery stores have a lot of decent sales, and sometimes you can get canned goods at 2 or 3 (or sometimes 5 or more) for a buck or two. Also, the quantities at the Dollar Tree will be small, and the quality won’t always be top-notch. I have nothing against Dollar Tree as I myself shop there. I just think it’s wise to know where to shop for certain items.

This was a very important exercise...people watching may forget: these videos are not always just about the budget--it's also about working with the resources that are available to you. While many of us live near WalMarts & grocery stores, there are many others that do not, and some live in actual "food deserts" & if they want to cook a holiday meal, they may have to rely on a Dollar Tree, Dollar General, or Family Dollar or similar because that is all they have in their neighborhood. So thank you for showing them the possibilities & teaching/reminding them how it can be done. It takes a lot of planning and creativity, and it has inspired me and I appreciate you for this! 😊

Good job! A couple of ideas for you... Mayonnaise can be used in mashed potatoes, they don't need anything else. Try a pumpkin icebox cake which is definitely a day-ahead recipe... a can of pumpkin, the usual seasonings as would be in a pie, a container of Cool Whip, and a box of graham crackers (I use chocolate ones). Combine everything except the crackers. Then layer the pumpkin mixture with the crackers. You can make individual ones, it can be a loaf or square, it all depends on how you want to present it. Refrigerated overnight It can be frozen too. (When I first came up with this, I called it a torte.)

The only suggestion I would make to save money is to use a couple of boxes of boxed Mac and cheese snd make a smaller amount of cheese sauce maybe 1/2 as much and mix in with the boxed Mac and cheese after it’s made and just mix in the additional cheese sauce ! And if you make sweet potato casserole in place of the pumpkin pie you could use the left over puréed pineapple in with the sweet potatoes ! But I think you did a great job with your meal it all looked delicious !! I hope you have a blessed Thanksgiving surrounded by loved ones !! 🙏🙋🏻🌈🌈

I know this is late, a year later so you probably won’t see it but maybe somebody will read it and get something out of it. The mac & cheese being a little bland is why we always added dry mustard to the sauce. You had yellow mustard on hand. A little squirted that might’ve sharpened it up a little bit, We’ve always added it because we like sharp cheddar. Another thing we’ve always done is add celery to our stuffing. It adds a lot of flavor because it works really well with the sage. I realize you were doing it from a dollar tree store but if somebody had a stalk or two to it does add a great deal of flavor and really punches up that sage. I love your ham roses and I think they would be fantastic for brunch. I think it would be so clever to do some hashbrowns, some eggs and one of these little roses. It would look very fancy. I think the next time I go to my son’s house and we have a brunch I’m going to show him this and see what he thinks. He is very creativecook. My daughter-in-law is not, so usually we are the mad scientists in the kitchen! My granddaughters are preteen and I think they would enjoy making these just because they’re so pretty. Your mashed potatoes sound wonderful. I’m not a huge fan of mashed potatoes because I do not like them creamy. I like a lot of texture in my food. So I would probably slightly undercook the fries and only mash about half of them and just kind of chop the rest of them up. That’s just me but for someone else who prefers a lot more texture in their potatoes I thought I mention it.

Great job Rebecca! The ham roses are the cutest thing I've ever seen. You are so creative & talented. One of the things I copied from you & made was easy mac & cheese from a box, without boiling pasta first. Turned out awesome & so easy. Today, instead of fighting crowds in Costco for my favorite pumpkin pie, I'm going to make an easy pumpkin bread using white cake mix as a base, plus prepping sweet potato casserole, & stuffing. Mashed potatoes will be from the package of instant, & trying out a 1 1/2 pound turkey tenderloin, with turkey gravy of course. I'm cooking for myself, but with all the leftovers, I'll divide meals into the prep containers & freeze them so each meal is enough for just me. Thanks for all the ideas. I got all 13 things on my list today from Dollar Tree. Woo hoo! Easy peasy. :) Happy Thanksgiving. ♥

Absolutely amazing, as always! I’ve said it before but an extreme thank you, Rebecca, for all that you do. You will always be a part of my extended “family” and seeing my dad through his hospice journey. He absolutely loved watching your videos and trying your dollar tree meals. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!

Hello DTD, I couldn't stop watching what a fantastic job you did. You can save money and make a great Thanksgiving meal. You could also double or triple the recipe depending on how many are coming. I started watching you at 3:30 AM because I couldn't sleep. Yes, the supermarket was expensive. I should have gone to the dollar tree. YOU DID A FANTASTIC JOB!!!!!!!!!!!😊😊😊😊😊

I don’t know if all these things are going to be leftovers, but I am obsessed with this new viral stuffing waffle situation where you cook your leftover stuffing in a waffle maker and it makes a stuffing cracker and you serve your turkey in potatoes and cranberry sauce, and everything else on top… it looked like a little leftover stuffing, so I thought you might want to give it a try

I really enjoyed, and appreciate, all the work you put into making this video. I would have loved to have been there with you tasting everything. In my lifetime I have made many made from scratch holiday dinners and it can be very stressful. Your dinner looked amazing. The ham "roses" were gorgeous. Thank you so much, again. Praying that you have a blessed Thanksgiving. Much love to you and your family. ~ Becky ~

Girl, you are awesome! I'm feeling so inspired!! I really want to try the mashed potatoes from fries!! Who knew?!?! And ya know... $75 is not bad for serving 8 people a holiday meal. Happy Thanksgiving Rebecca!

Happy Thanksgiving!!!🍽 That Thanksgiving dinner was awesome! Im thinking since I don’t have to cook a dinner for family I’d use these ideas so I can make some casseroles for my work week & busy weekends! Your scratch recipes looked wonderful and even tho you had a lot of dishes to wash/scrub, you know all of us here appreciated your taking the time to plan, shop, cook/bake/serve/edit this video!! 🦃 🍁🧡🧡🤎🧡🧡❤️

Pineapple pulp to Italian ice. Could use a bit of the syrup to sweeten. French fries to mashed, brilliant! Great job!🎉🌟 🏆

I love your videos, and watch them faithfully! Your leftover "pineapple mash" could be added to cream cheese, maybe even with some cranberry sauce or relish stirred in, as a yummy bagel or muffin spread!

Team Smooth and Creamy, but it also needs some gravy. Thanksgiving is nothing with out gravy, because you pour it all over your potatoes, and your stuffing and your meat :D I won't be having thanksgiving this year, so this was a nice treat to watch :D Thank you for your video and ideas on how to make a less expensive thanksgiving/christmas meal. To me, christmas is just a repeat of thanksgiving, although, I would make turkey on thanksgiving and ham on christmas. thanks again! #smooth&creamy Edit: $75 usually buys you just your turkey, or ham. That is awesome that you were able to make THAT much food on $75. And feeding a lot of people at the same time. People would be full coming from your dollar tree thanksgiving, that is for sure.

Wow I love your channel. Have been a fan from the beginning. 🥰 . Your creativity is amazing 👌. It's helpful that you show that using dollar tree products is very possible. Especially in these financially challenging times. Everything is just super expensive💰 😪 . I feel like alot of single mom's or single dad's will appreciate all the tips and great recipes you provide. There should be no shame in having to shop at dollar tree. Thank you so much for being so caring. I hope you have a wonderful blessed Thanksgiving 🦃🥧 with your family. 🤟🥰. Thanks from Susan Wilson in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania 🦃

I think it’s just great to see someone as young as you cooking from scratch!! Or cooking at all😂😂. My daughter is older than you, she’s 39, and can barely make boxed Mac and cheese😂. I tried to teach her how to cook but she just doesn’t like it!! My grandkids depend on me for the good stuff!!!😂😂. This video was great!! Who woulda thunk you could make mashed taters outta frozen French fries???!!!!!

It's never too late, though. I've baked since before my teen years but I learned how to cook in my forties (closer to fifty) and now I love it. I wish I had learned a lot sooner.

Your daughter sounds like my mom! My grandma is a great cook but my mom never learned or wanted to cook. I, however love cooking and it gives me a sense of pride. Now baking from scratch I can’t do (too exact) so I’m good with boxed cakes and maybe making a homemade topping.
