I tied this exact pattern last year. Probably from this video. Actually had fresh pinks taking this violently. I have been in August only so anything but Silvers has never hit anything. I just some shorter DollyL's with olive rabbit and a short strip of olive pine squirrel for local ponds and stockies. Great fly. My girlfriend calls them the 'sneaky-ass' flies because she didn't see that hook in the bunny. It is a sneaky ass fly.

Nice. I like your idea of pushing the cone back. That was a "doh" moment...like why have I never thought of that? However, I'd add a small thread dam in front of the cone to secure it in that position.

Can you recommend a starter kit for fly tying like one good quality spinning vise that would work for tying jigs an spinners as well as flys would like it to have all the tools and everything just don't want to buy the wrong one thank you

We like the Peak rotary vise, it is relatively inexpensive and works great! You can buy tool kits really anywhere online or a shop. I wouldn't skimp on a vise though, get what you can afford then get your tools. Tools are easy to upgrade.
