Power pro spectra braid is my absolute favorite line for fishing with a baitcaster or spinning reel. It’s phenomenal how smooth it is.

This is the video I've been waiting for. I saw you tying it at the Atlanta fly fishing show and we talked for a bit. Awesome pattern, definitely will be tying some.

It took longer than I thought to give it a real good "on the water" testing but I'm super happy with the results. Glad you like it.

I have chip clip # 75. I feel pretty smug right now. Seriously - great video and awesome upgrade to LM's original pattern. I'm going to tie this one...with my superior chip clip.

Interesting pattern and I trust that it swims well... But why the trailer hook? I must be missing something. Why not tie it to a 2x steamer hook for example? Would it affect how it behaves under water? Thanks Tim. Hugues

I recently got back in to the Orvis podcasts with Tom and enjoyed your recent appearance and discussion on Trout Spey. Is this the fly you describe in the episode? Today may have been the push I needed to get in on the two-handed game.

Curious why you don't turn the hook up? Does this not get snagged easily?
@tightlinevideo
@tightlinevideo 4 жыл бұрын
You certainly can turn it up at any time, it's one of the great things about intruder style flies. I like to keep the hook pointed down to insure the fly tracks correctly as opposed to canting to one side or the other. As far as snagging goes, I don't really fish this fly as a bottom dragger. On the swing it's generally higher up in the water column where snagging isn't a problem.

Great pattern and instruction! I was just looking for a way to improve my zonker pattern's hook set and this nails it! Also that IC test clip to hold dubbing loop was truly an eye opener! BTW, what's that thread cutting tool you are using?

Do you ever attach the stinger hook to the leech strip?
@tightlinevideo
@tightlinevideo 4 жыл бұрын
You can, but to me it reduces the movement of the fly which I really like. Occasionally, the tail will foul in hook or the braid but it's rare. I'd rather have the movement and check the fly every now and again.

I spend a lot of time fishing articulated streamers and I've found that the majority of my hook-ups come on the front hook, which makes me skeptical about hook-up ratio's on this style of fly.
@tightlinevideo
@tightlinevideo 4 жыл бұрын
All I can suggest is to give intruder style flies like this a try. I too fish a fair number of articulated flies and really haven't seen a difference in hook-up ratio. Your results of course might vary.

I pretty much only fish stingers for steelhead. Never been a problem hooking up, in fact I know that my bump/hookup ratio is very good, and my hookup/landed ratio is superior to what most anglers report.

Any time I tie an Intruder style fly I put a pencil eraser on the hook. I have been using OPST swing hooks and they are SHARP. Without the eraser I invariably stab myself.

Nice. Just can't get yourself (or the shop) to invest in a Pettijean Magic Tool? It hurts $$$ once, but the visibility is nice. Tight lines.

I don’t like the idea of killing something so I can use its fur to catch a fish I’m going to release. Any artificial recommendation?

Jim Dawson maybe it was killed for food... I doubt they bother killing animals and don’t use the meat.

It's not an Intruder to me, it"s a stinger fly. I prefer MOAL leeches to string leeches like this, as they foul too much. Crosscut rabbit pulses better too, imo. These are probably easier to cast, but again - the fouling is an issue.

I wondered about the tail not being connected to the hook. Jerry French attaches his. Thanks for your comment!
