Her estimated net worth is estimated at $650 million. And I've read multiple sources that speculate she would have been up to $1B by now if she hadn't given so much of her money away, all kinds of charities. Marginalized people, Healthcare, childhood literacy, She started Dollywood to employ people in her hometown. She stopped the high school dropout rate and her town and continues doing that. She has even provided things like band uniforms and graduation gowns for high school kids in lower income communities -- anonymously!

@Marylou/ it's so true and there's never anything mean or insensitive coming out of Dolly's mouth either! She's too good hearted and too intelligent and too kind for any of that nonsense. She's always proven that she's smart enough not to mention politics, ever! If you hear someone say you know Dolly voted for XYZ for president, It's not true. She never talks about it, on purpose. Which I'm glad for. Every person of any kind of celebrity has their opinion, which is fine, But I believe she feels it's a detriment to her career in reaching as many people as possible to entertain. That was her whole reason for leaving Nashville in the '70s and moving to Hollywood to record pop records and to make movies. She was the first major female artist, not just in country, to headline a major Las Vegas shows. And she demanded to always be paid the same as men.

Maybe but just maybe one day some country singer will sell more albums than Dolly but, but no one will ever reach what Dolly Parton has achieved. She managed to unite Americans when they were most separated( politically) , she never said anything bad about anyone, everyone loves her, she is real business woman , she appreciates her co workers and they adore her, and most importantly she has not forgotten her roots and helped to the people in the area where she grew up. I havent read any negative comments about Dolly anywhere yet and I certainly won't in the future either. Dolly Parton is a true Ambassador of her country to the world and you have never been better and you will never have dear Americans. So you need to love and respect her. I will always, always love you Dolly Parton, your Eli. from Switzerland ( and Croatia).🥰🥰💝💝🥰🇭🇷❤🇨🇭

I remember having a country singing contest with my sister in front of millions at grand ole opery ( our mom and dad ) lol I would sing her songs and try dress like her. And I would do Loretta Lynn another amazing person I would love to meet too. I grew up listening to country music. I'm only 29 but when I was little I didn't listen to all the stuff the kids my age did. I loved listening to the real country music singer. Jonny cash, Loretta Lynn June Carter, dolly parton, Kenny Rogers, hank Williams, etc all the great country legands .

I don't agree with a lot of the statements about Dolly. Her longevity was not because she was self-deprecating. It was because she is highly intelligent, flexible, adaptable, and she keeps re-inventing herself. One of the sharpest business minds. She is a brand before branding was a thing.

This isn't a very good documentary. It drags because of the editing. Some of the comments made are kind of insulting. Dolly was already successful when Whitney Houston recorded I Will Always Love You. She had her own TV show, and had written many hits. The most painful is the slow moving editing and cheap production.

Dolly is a treasure. Talented, modest, generous, smart, and worked her ass of to get where she is today. To say that the royalties of I Will Always love You got her "out of the log cabin", is at the very least misleading, and also kind of an insult.

Yes, she has inspired some young artist but the true difference between the young singers today and the legend, Dolly Parton, is found in one characteristic: she is authentic and she is Dolly. The young folks I saw, in this show, as those coming up behind her, seem like folks that blow with whatever tide that comes in; their foundation is not secure in deep soil.

I love that the books from The Imagination Library are mailed out to the children in the child's name, leaving no doubt that "this is MY book". I think this must make the child that much more determined to learn to read when he is reading a book that belongs to only him. Dolly set this up as a tribute to her father who never had the opportunity to learn to read, making her want to prevent today's children from growing up under the same limitations. When a child gets a book a month from birth to kindergarten, when they start school many of them have more books that their parents will own in a lifetime. My hat's off to Dolly for having the vision to set up this program.

One of my favorites stories Dolly Parton has told was when she was a little girl she went into town with her mother and saw the woman of the town (loose lady of the town or a hooker) all painted up with makeup, nails and hair. She never saw a person look that way since no one wore makeup in her family. She turned to her mother and said; mamma isn't she the prettiest thing you ever saw. Her mother turned back to her daughter and said "she's just trash." Dolly said that's when she decided when she grew up she wanted to be trash. lol. (and she isn't but does love that look).

Dolly's early '70s songs were not always "songs about oldtime virtues." She was writing serious songs about schoolyard bullying, being dirt poor, girls and women she knew with terminated pregnancies or stillborn children, plus suicide, and songs like "Touch Your Woman." She doesn't like to call herself a feminist because she doesn't like labels, but she was a feminist icon BY the early '70s! Some of her songs wouldn't be played on the radio. DOLLY WAS BANNED FROM COUNTRY RADIO FOR SOME OF THESE SONGS. Like The Bargain Store, The Bridge and Down From Dover. Those are some heavy topics. It wasn't all about butterflies and rainbows (though they are two of her favorite things!) Coat Of Many Colors itself is simply brilliant. She manages to cover severe poverty, bullying at her grade school, a Bible verse, plus her love and appreciation for her mother. All in one song. She's a treasure❤

Are you fu€kin kidding me? Whitney Houston covering “I will always love you” is not what took Dolly out of a log cabin . Get real!! Dolly was already an international star for over 20 years. That statement couldn’t be anymore absurd.

Only 3 minutes in and I hate the british guy saying Whitney Houston made her rich (instead of a little bit richer) and then the narrator says she got an Oscar nomination for her role in "9 To 5" instead of being nominated for original song. I may have to watch the rest just to pick out the mistakes. Lazy documentary filmmaking right here.

They left out that Porter Wagner sued her for the split. Settled for $1 Million. Years later when he was broke Dolly bought the rights to his music library and then gifted the song rights back to him.

I once saw a documentary on Dolly, she was praising Whitney's cover, and said "she made me rich." Her humorous way of stating that she made a lot of money. Hopefully the man at the beginning was just quoting what she said.
