If you do get the chance and I sincerely hope you do, it will be a night you will remember forever. I was lucky enough to see her during the Pure & Simple Tour in 2017. She hadn't toured in Canada for about 20 years. Let me tell you, I can still play it start to finish in my mind as if it was yesterday. It's like you're transported to the dollyverse where everyone loves on another, there's no hate. It's just one big bubble of love with the angle at centre stage. It's truly just like an evening with Dolly. It doesn't feel like a concert. It feels like you've known her for years. I pray you get to see her one day!!!

I have heard this lip sync argument for so long that is almost political. If you want proof that Dolly can still sing live at her age, watch the 2019 Grammy awards tribute to her yet it took her to carry off her own tribute; those were live vocals and they are so much better than any of the canned crap. The canned crap was done by CTK Management who took control of Dolly's career around the time of Backwoods Barbie, touting it as her first country album in 17 years. It' is as if they thought we all took stupid pills and forgot about all the other albums in between including her trio of roots albums containing her pinnacle album "Little Sparrow" of 2001 which earned her Grammy for best female vocal performance, Country, for "Shine," her exquisite cover of the Collective Soul composition. Regardless, you cannot lip sync albums even though there has not been a standout album done in Nashville, if you want to hear what Dolly is capable of vocally, listen to the Linda Perry produced "Dumplin" soundtrack from 2018. When Dollywood was Dolly's primary business venture she still had time and the creativity to put out excellent albums and do live shows. However, CTK aka Danny Nozzell gets zero from Dollywood. Hence her hocking cake mixes, perfume, novels, and worst of all non-fungible tokens. Next are wigs, a line of clothing and housewares, etc. All this brings his not so above board looking self between 15 and 30 percent of these deals and in between deals she releases crap albums so {pre-Covid) he could keep her on promotional tours all over the world for personal financial gain. I can only imagine the flack I will receive for this comment, but please do not waste your time to give me flack, because "I Don't Care," a great Dolly composition that was an "unreleased demo" with her re-released "Songteller" book. Her entourage has become a cult and it is sad. Born under different circumstances, Dolly could have been Mozart. Oddly though, Mozart could not be Dolly Parton. She is that exceptional when she wants to be or when someone like Linda Perry pushes her. She is at the point in her career like Johnny Cash when he teamed up with Rick Rubin or Loretta when she teamed up with Jack White. Unfortunately, now I think Linda Rondstadt was right when she told Dolly that Dolly no longer cared about making music that she only cared about making money. It was a harsh statement and was not quite true then but it was quite prophetic. I do not know if we will get the great late career Dolly Parton albums. If you want those make sure "The Grass Is Blue," "Little Sparrow," "Halos and Horns," and "Dumplin" are in your collection. Her legacy is established, her philanthropy is universally admired; even her music career is the most successful of any other female artist in this genre. Sadly, she has not scratched the surface of the depth of her musical genius and without a change in her organization. Otherwise, she continues to be surrounded by the current sycophants, hangers-on and stooges and her focus stays divided on multiple branding deals which would have served her better well before she was a household name and not in her twilight years. This post has been as long as Tolstoy's "War and Peace." Its intent though is to stop the war over whether or not she lip syncs, she does, and sometimes from the front row so badly you cringe and are embarrassed as if she is your child giving a recital. She's had a phenomenal career and if we never get a late career critically acclaimed album; we can at least go back to "Little Sparrow" and get lost in that angelic voice; or to her early works and marvel at the woman that composed the number one pop song of the 20th century and "Jolene" on the same night. Additionally, fifty one years after her debut album, we can listen to her composition "Red Shoes" and marvel at her ability to still write compositions that make you stand up and listen to her still ethereal voice on the edgy album, "Dumplin'." We can also appreciate all her philanthropy, that which is publicized and all that she does without press. I always keep the figurative candle burning for that late in life career renaissance but I do not hold my breath regarding same because her vocal cords will become weaker with each passing year.. Moreover, I am very thankful for all the laughs she's given us through her quick wit and her foray into movies; not to mention the laughs we shared personally no matter how brief our encounters. As she told Barbara Walters, "show business is a money making joke and I've just always liked telling jokes." She let us know then that she considered herself in show business; let us hope she does not end her prolific career as a joke. She has been riding high the last couple of years because she is beloved. All of the United States seems to have placed her on a pedestal where I think she belongs. However, history has taught us over and over that once someone is put on a pedestal the human emotion of envy motivates others to try to knock them off. However, that is not the point of this post. She deserves a pedestal for composing this one lyric, "On a dusty road at 15, in a yellow cotton dress with the desert sun like an angry dragon breathing down my neck. And the dry cracked plains would make think of a prehistoric time. Should I fear what lay before me less than what I left behind?" Dolly is a wonderful entertainer regardless if it's real or Memorex.

Jesus Christ! This was a novel! But you said everything correctly. And I agree with you 100 percent. Moving forward don't waste your time trying to changed peoples minds. People are people and life is simple, it's people who make it difficult. I've learned that on social media people see things from their pathologies. And everyone has a right to express their opinion, even if you and I know better. You're a gifted writer, good context and I really enjoyed reading your post. I'm just happy Dolly is still with us and living her best life. Theses people who go back and forth are noting but morons!

I agree. Danny Nozell deserves some credit though. Before he took over her career was at a low. Even with her amazing bluegrass albums, Dolly’s name was fading in the music business. She wasn’t able to sell out a small venue. The problem has simply been Dolly’s alone. She keeps working with Kent Wells and the same producers who simply suck. When Linda Perry worked with Dolly I was simply blown away. Linda wasn’t afraid to say, “No” to Dolly. Incredibly Dolly listened. Now she’s back selling these horrible records. Pure and Simple was dreadful. Unfortunately I can’t get excited over her new album releases anymore.
