Twisting Fringe: Removal from Floor Loom & Fringe

@@DoloresJacobs hello thank you so much for the videos. I have a large 4 shaft floor loom from the 50s. I'm in Donegal Ireland. I've been struggling lately with the best way to get a long 23m warp on. Full width, 63inches. It is not easy. As I threaded and untangled and sweated my way through beaming another spaghetti like warp, your videos calmed me down ! I started out years ago on a home made copy of a glimakra 4 shaft loom with a weaving width of only 26 inches. I am curious about the beautiful looms you talk about in your video. Everything running so smoothly!

I recently purchased a used 4 shaft floor loom, so needed to learn how to use it. I came across your series of videos and am really impressed. Your instruction is really clear, detailed and easy to follow. I initially thought learning to use my new loom was going to be quite daunting, but after finding your set of videos, I feel confident that I can do it. Wow Dolores! I just purchased a used 6 shaft floor loom for such a steal I couldn't resist. When I finally put it in my studio I can admit I was very intimidated. I only wove for a class in school once and it was with the Jacquard Loom, nothing like a floor loom. Coming across your video has been super helpful. I am very thankful for your informative content. I am actually weaving...thanks to your videos. I can't seem to find how you wound the cloth onto the cloth beam. Did you use paper and sticks like on the warp beam?

What is the point of the floating selvage? It must be worth the trouble of having to deal with it in every pick.

When you are weaving a twill pattern the weft goes over 2 or 3 warp threads. At the edge it also skips several picks, this creates a long float where the outside warp end is not woven, so you edge gets uneven looking. When you use the floating selvage every other warp thread is woven and it makes a much nicer edge. I got use to using the FS and it isn't a problem to use, it comes naturally. You do not need the FS for plain weave, but twills and some other patterns will need it.

Dolores Jacobs Thank you very much for the explanation. Very Comprehensive and I could picture in my mind what you were explaining to me. In one week I will be picking up my first floor loom, a used Harrisville 45/8 harness. One owner, loom #12. I’m told the 45” is no longer made but parts are available. I know it is heavy, no wheels. I have Rigid heddle looms and I love them but I am SO excited at the opportunity to have a floor loom. Your videos are very thorough, helpful and I appreciate the time and effort you put into them. I didn’t know the floor looms were a faster weave, I wanted and more complex pattern options.

When cutting fringe be sure your other hand is not in line with the cutting, That is hard to do when cutting across your body.

It has been several years since I got the tags and I don't remember the company. You can find several tag makers at etsy. Here is a company that makes the tags. www.labelweavers.com I have not use this company, but they make labels like the ones I got.
