Went today , it was fantastic , the dolphins are well cared for , no issues there , friendly helpful staff , although I appreciate they need to make money , the photographs afterwards are extortionately expensive, and your not allowed to take your own pics .

Dolphin Cove Jamaica.....The allegations made by Carol Bulas Hakanen are serious, reflect very poorly on the attraction and are deserving of a response. If true, this strongly suggests that vast improvements need to be made at the location and this should be treated as a matter of urgency.

I was just here in Ocho Rios, Jamaica and it was one of the worst experiences of my life!!! FIrst of all, it isn't a fun-filled event, like this video shows. We arrived at 11:30 am and got wrist bands for 12:30 pm to be with the dolphins. When we finally got in the huge group with all the buses that left people off (we were originally there first, with a bus load of only 20 people, but they made us wait for the crowds) we were told that we could NOT use our Go Pro cameras. (This was NOT written in the brochure, but they claimed it was and had us second guess ourselves.) The encounter with the dolphin for each group of 7 - 10 people was actually only a photo shoot. The total time spent with the dolphin was about 1 minute per person. And, I was even YELLED at for not looking at the camera when the dolphin kissed me!!! The tour operators badgered me for over an hour about my Go Pro camera which I told them I was NOT going to give them (they wanted to confiscate it from me) and I let them know I'd turn it off instead and placed it inside my vest. The badgering still went on, as they brought several supervisors to try to convince me to give up my camera. I refused and they refused to let me participate with the dolpins for quite awhile until I finally told them that I will get out of the water and not participate, if that is what they wanted. And, I was going to make sure that Royal Caribbean knew exactly how much fun it was to be part of their excursion (NOT). After I said that, they hurdled in a group and then FINALLY told me, "Ma'am, you are on vacation and we know you want to enjoy it, so we will take your word for it, that you are not videoing." After I returned to the ship and saw that they never warned about not using a Go Pro, I wished that I had my camera running, to show how insanely crazy it was that they were so abusive. It was an extremely hostile environment and ruined my experience in Jamaica. For only 1 minute of interaction with a dolphin, we had to endure over 5 hours on their small beach area. The area for the dolphins is sectioned off, like fish hatcheries. They are VERY confined and you can see that they must not get much exercise out in the wild because they have green algea growing on their skin. There is also a small sectioned space for sting rays and another one for sharks. It really is quite depressing how the animals are being used only for photo opportunities and they are not in their natural habitat. The beach area is also roped off very shallow to the sand and you have to walk on big rocks to get into the water. The water is VERY filthy with debri floating and slimmy string-like substances floating everywhere. I wasn't sure if they were transparent worms or just slime. VERY disgusting water - felt like walking in a sewer runnoff. The beach chairs were placed close together like sardines in a can, not even facing the ocean, they were sideways. This was a VERY creepy experience. I felt unsafe and made to act like a circus act with the dolphins for the photo opportunities which they wanted you to pay for afterwards (which is why they harrassed you if you had a Go Pro). NOT a good experience. Everyone who went to the dolphin excursions in Mexico had a MUCH better time. I have also enjoyed dolphins in Hawaii where they are in the wild and not sectioned off in hatchery-like squares. P.E.T.A. should know about this and do something to protect those dolphins. We got the CD with 111 photos and the dolphin that my friend had been photographed with looked to be hurt on his snout (it had a gouge at the tip). VERY sad. At the end, the two dolphins were too exhausted to even stand on their tails to do the finale. It was creepy.

Ms Magpie I highly agree with that but the Dolphins there were very happy and got fed very well every time they did a trick they got loads of fish even when people weren't coming with the dolphins they were very active and never showed any boredom we saw they were trained so we know that they are not abused at all. The Dolphins were super sweet and very excited to be around humans. I wish people on the internet would not come and Bash people for swimming with dolphins because they are very intelligent creatures that are super sweet and knowledgeable and would harm someone if they were in a uncomfortable situation. I had a great experience at Dolphin Cove and for anyone who is debating on going there I definitely recommend you going there it was super fun and enjoyable and the Dolphins were amazing
