Dolphin giving birth caught on camera

A bottlenose dolphin at Brookfield zoo in Illinois gives birth to a dolphin calf, weighing 40 pounds. The three-foot mammal was delivered to the 26-year-old mother after a several-hour labour. The calf is said to be settling in well in its new surroundings

Everyone complaining about captivity. Theres a chance these dolphins are permanently injured and or incapable of doing something, such as some are incapable of hunting their own food. Due to one reason or another.

Notice how the dolphin got into the sea bed and whipped herself, she is trying to numb her pain, as she is giving birth to a calf.

The calf cups its tongue around the nipple and pushes it up against the roof of its mouth, forming a tight seal, and then presses its rostrum forward. The mother dolphin then responds by contracting muscles around the mammary glands that squirts into the calf's mouth. The nursing last for several seconds each time, and during the first few week of the calf's life, feedings take place about four times per hour. The dolphins grow very quickly on the milk.

I've read somewhere (although this takes place more in the wild) the female dolphins run around in pods, while the males go in there own little pods. They are only together for mating season. So, I think this might be one of the other female dolphins in the female pod, who are considered "aunties". They help the mother dolphin with her child until the dolphin grows up. Then the dolphin will find their own pod. Hope this helps!
