Will always say it as a Portland fan, the 2019 playoffs may have been the worst thing to ever happen to franchise in recent history. I mean they were great to watch, Lillard going off in R1, Cj going off in R2, and thinking we actually had a shot at finals. However it kept the team content, "no roster moves are needed we made the WCF" and "no staff changes needed we made the WCF." I mean we are still feeling knock on affects to this day. The current roster construction has fans saying "we are on the same level as 2019" thats not a good level to be on, that is a good (not great) team that would not have been in the same situation 9 times out of 10. It would also be easier to deal with the playoff losses if Lillard had won an MVP or two. At least then it would give fans something to celebrate (that isn't a celebration of being above average). I love Lillard and the Blazers but without a miraculous stroke of luck, a blockbuster trade or a huge free agent signing (which has never happened in Portland) the Lillard era blazers will never win, and if they do it will quite literally be the greatest ring of all time.

Think it's important to mention that the Blazers didn't have Nurkic during the 2018 run either, so the hope was that his return would push them over the hump. In hindsight that was unrealistic since the west got a lot tougher that season, but I think the Blazers will have interesting pieces to work with to try and make a contender within the next 3-5 years. New coach for the first time in his career, and a new GM who has proven to be far more adept at making good moves. I think the Blazers are hoping Dame will be a player with a slow regression time, allowing him to still be solid once Ant and Sharpe are coming into their own.

We look at the Lakers, the Clippers, the Nets, and we see all the team up failures, (even if the Lakers do have a ring, LeBron is on pace to make the playoffs in only 2 of his first 5 Lakers seasons). But we demand that the old-school visionaries like Giannis and Dame betray cities who believed in them and helped make them into superstars. Look at what’s happened to Westbrook since he left OKC. Harden since leaving Houston. Even with older players, Dwight after leaving the Magic. Why should Lillard want this? Why shouldn’t he value the potential to be the Dirk Nowitzki of Portland. Fight against the new era to show that sometimes, the player empowerment era doesn’t improve basketball. And I also hate the people who get mad at Lillard for talking about loyalty. No one gives a fuck that AD got his ring as the second guy. No one gives a fuck that Lowry got his ring as a second guy. No one gives a fuck that Jason Kidd got his ring in 2011. Only the best guy on a championship team gets any credit so why would Lillard go earn credit for some other player?

NBA fans treat these guys like them going somewhere else is the same as the average person leaving their job to go work for another company that’s only in a different part of the city. Him leaving would be him leaving the city he’s lived in for a decade and started a family. The NBA is a job. The equivalent of going to another team for a ring is leaving your high paying job to work somewhere just to get a photo taken with a trophy whenever your department does well.

So much wasted potential man. We could've been talking about him as a top 20-30 player of all time had he went to a relevant team. The bad part is both sides are not willing to break up. It's like continuing to stay in a toxic relationship. Obviously it would be better for both sides if they broke up.
@cadrollhunting35642 жыл бұрын
Sry, but that is just bullshit. Dame is a great scorer, but that is about it, it takes way more than that to be a top 20-30 player of all time, i would find it hard to argue that he is a top 20-30 player of the last 20 years, let alone all time. Dame has way more to do with the lack of the Blazers success than people make it seem, he is a very one-dimesional player and has a lot of flaws that are very hard to overcome if you are the guy the built around, for me that is the main reason, Dame reached his ceiling as a no 1.

@@cadrollhunting3564 his defense is not good what other weaknesses does he have? Ai was also shit on defense Curry is meh. He is one of the most clutch players of all time always shows up in big moments. What arguements do you have other than his bad supporting cast? Obvouisly he is nowhere near close to that right now but if he played with another star and a defensive team who know how many rings he could've won.
@lik79532 жыл бұрын
@@hakanakbasoglu2390 he shows up in big moments? In the 2019 WCF, he was closest to a championship, and was lucky to not have to play KD as he was injured. What happened? He averaged 22 PPG. Steph averaged 37 PPG 8 RPG and 7 APG. When he was closest to success, he got absolutely eviscerated by a very shallow and KD-less warriors. Heck even draymond outplayed dame. Draymond averaged 17 PPG 12 RPG and 9 APG in that series
@cadrollhunting35642 жыл бұрын
@@hakanakbasoglu2390 Dame is one of the worst defenders in the league, in terms of skill AND effort. He is very underseized, is not a good passer or playmaker, has tunnel vision on his drives to the basket and cant really kick out. On top of that he has bad off-ball movement, a bad shot selection and cant at all deal with double teams. The only way you can rate Dame as highly as you is if you only watch highlight videos.

It's because no one sees you play so it's cool if your a borderline star or a really good role player but if your a star and you do God's work out there No one is watching you play. The only way to kinda combat this is if you have a huge hype storm like Zion and the Pels
