I am really pleasantly surprised that this wine is alive and well at this stage. I know this wine well but not the 2oo1. Recent vintages are really great wines and super QPR. The 2014 right now is really spot on. last year, I opened a 2010 and it was quite nice. It was good that I opened it at the time because the cork was not in good shape. It was delicious ! Their Grand Vin is really good too and still a great QPR. thank you for posting this : )

Thank you for your comment, Jason! I really loved the 2001, but I also appreciate older expressions from the "cooler" vintages for Cabernet Franc in the Loire. Some might suggest that age-worthy wines from this vintage may be past their peak, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder, of course! I had a 2001 Les Picasses about a year ago, and thought it was in a great spot. It doesn't have the power and concentration of a 2005 or 2010, so the 2001 wine is all about delicacy and nuance. So, it's a matter of personal preference. I'm glad you had great experiences recently with the 2014 and 2010. I had the 2010 a couple weeks ago and loved it! All the wines from Filliatreau are really top notch, and great QPR as you said! 😁 Thank you for taking the time to watch the video and comment! Your support is appreciated! ❤🙏

The Filliatreau Vieilles Vignes is a good candidate for the cellar. This 2001 was a cellar release that was only made available in the US I think, but I'm sure there are older vintages floating around where you are. ☺

I purchased the 83 Vielle Vignes upon its release. It was probably about US$5-6. I aged it for about a dozen+ years. It was an early attempt to see how Cabernet Franc aged. At the time, i hadnt yet developed a sophisticated palate in terms of aged wine. So, the fact i wasnt impressed may have been more about me than about the wine. I still have the empty bottle in the cellar.

Thank you for your comment, Bobby. Incredible that the 83 was only $5 or 6! I think aging Cabernet Franc for the long haul depends a lot on the producer, wine, and of course, vintage. But I agree that aged wine is an acquired taste. Technically all wines can age, not as many improve with age, and ultimately beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Thank you, as always, for watching and for your kind support, Bobby! Cheers! ☺
