I have had a couple of your books for several years and was able to attend one of your classes at the International Quilt Festival in Houston. I have a new Q16 Bernina sit down long arm and am ready to learn and grow in 2025. Your videos are so needed and I am excited about this year's journey with you.

I purchased my Bernina 590 for this exact reason! While I like to have my quilts done by a long arm quilter - I feel that they are not completely my creation. This is why I want to get better at quilting with my domestic machine. I am so happy I came across this video this morning.

Thanks for the machine setting tutorial. That was helpful. I wish I could do the sandwiching on a wall, but don’t have a wall that works. I’m thinking of going back to safety pin basting or stitch basting because I found the 505 spray left a sticky residue on nearby items. I have your books and have watched your videos before, so I’m getting better at FMQ and drop down dual feed quilting. I still need to work on doing better with larger quit,s though. And I have found glide thread works on my machine without breaking or causing other issues. I tried a lot of threads, but glide was the only one that didn’t break constantly. I have a Juki 3000 qvp, so I guess it’s just the machine.

Be sure to watch my basting tutorial showing how to spray baste on a table if you don't have a wall. Here's a link to the youtube video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bWqqhGCCrLCFoKMsi=nOa6IxRYKVzc6tdB

Thank you, Christa! A question… Why do you stitch anchor seams? Isn’t spraybasting enough when you FMQ on a domestic sewing machine? Thanks.
@ChristaQuilts3 күн бұрын
Great questions!! It depends on the design. If I'm FMQ an edge to edge design, I don't need to anchor quilt because I'm filling in all the spaces as I go. However, if I'm custom quilting, the anchor stitching helps hold the quilt together and prevent shifting as I scrunch and smoosh. Yes, basting is an important part, but it's a temporary hold; the quilting is permanent.

Prepare some quilt samples, grab a copy of the 99 Designs book, and make sure your machine has a walking foot that fits and you know how to use it. Then you'll be all set! www.etsy.com/shop/ChristaQuilts
