Just wanted to send a big thank you for making this video! I watched your video some time ago which gave me the confidence to tackle this job. I purchased the parts, and "rebuilt" the Dometic 5006 on my boat this weekend. I literally had your video running while I was doing it and followed step by step. Your video was invaluable. Toilet is now working great. Thank you!

So I performed the task that you show here in your video on the Dometic 111 (now a 211) model in my 2005 Fleetwood Southwind. Took me about 3 and 1/2 hours which included a thorough cleaning of everything in this project. The trickiest part was installing the screw (new one provided in the Dometic 385318162 Flush Ball, Shaft and Spring Cartridge Kit) into the rotor shaft. Thanks to your tip I pre attached the rotor shaft with the new screw BEFORE installing it. That helped mainly because I knew the threads in the plastic flush ball were correct. It was still not an easy connection to make because as you know you can’t get a straight on purchase on the screw head because about half of it is under the base assembly. I just took my time and didn’t force it so as to strip out the head of the screw. Everything else went as planned and tested with no leaks and the bowl holds water now. And everything is super clean because I spent the necessary time and cleaning materials to make it that way. There’s always a genuine GREAT feeling when you’ve done a job like this knowing it was done right…..and of course saving the labor costs of an rv mechanic. Plus he/she wouldn’t do as good of a cleaning job which is VERY IMPORTANT in this project ! Thanks again , just wanted to give an update since you were so kind to respond to my question a couple days ago.

Great video - I have a Dometic 712-TM09 which was nearly identical at every step. The thing that I always find tricky with this type of repair is knowing which parts to take off (or put on) first, and you made it extremely clear. I did the repair today in my camper with this playing alongside and it now works perfectly. Thank you so much!

Thanks for your video. You gave me the confidence to rebuild my Dometic Sealand SC-210. I had to do quite a bit of scraping off the mineral build-up from the water over time from the areas around the "ball/flap," but it was worth it. BTW, I'm a full-timer living in a used 2009 Montana 5th-wheel.

Thanks very much for this, it helped me figure out what I was doing wrong on re-assembly! I was stuck trying to get the ball valve back in with the spring module still in place - not happening and bruised fingers later. I did notice however that when you disassembled the water valve from the spring module, there should have been an extra centre screw holding the spring module in (in the ball and shaft kit) before attaching the new valve with the 2 new black screws. Thanks again - all is well back aboard Element!

I don’t have an RV. I don’t have an RV toilet either. But, I do have a loathing of flying stinging creatures. So after watching you using M80’s to destroy wasp nests I simply had to watch another video made by the same guy. I loved the maniacal laughter as the nests disappeared in a cloud of debris. As a kid I’d use cherry bombs to do the same thing. Only not as effectively. (Also, I didn’t want to have this message buried in all the comments made about your other video. Sorry.) Peace. Out.

Why do they provide 2 silver screws in the kit? Is it just in case you drop one? Also, I have a 210 toilet, and I am having trouble getting my screwdriver in to tighten the screw. I have a short throw ratcheting screwdriver and even that is too tall to fit. Any ideas?

Hi Mr. Carlson. I have a 2008 Bounder and I believe you do as well. (Foggy window video) Would you tell me what model Dometic toilet you have? My manual shows two models. (110 & 210) Do they take the same ball and seal kit? Your toilet looks exactly like mine. Could you give me the part or kit numbers and toilet model number. How has you foggy window repair held up? I have that problem too. I really like your videos, I hope you do more of them. Thanks very much. Massachusetts.

Mine is a Dometic SC 111. I google the model and parts and found several websites that sold the parts. Look for the sticker on your toilet to make sure you have the right model. Remember they come in bone and white colors. My windows are just as clear as can be. The first ones I did were 5 years ago. One thing I will emphasize is even though it is just ordinary air you are trapping between the layers of glass, make sure it's not damp, humid air. The desiccant inside should absorb the moisture inside, but only to a point.

I Don’t lose water in the bowl, but there is a faint hissing sound from down under by the bowl. Toilet cycles about every 3-4 hours. Looking for opinions? Is this issues those seals or something else. Duck valves are new.
@JCarlson3 жыл бұрын
The toilet shown in my video is a simple gravity flusher. You are apparently speaking of a Vacuflush toilet. Interesting system common on boats, but also some RVs. Mine has one for the other toilet. I appears that your vacuflush motor is running every few hours. The system needs a complete vacuum to keep from cycling. Yours is leaking, hence the hiss. Yes, the Duck bill valves would be suspect, but there are other places where the system could be leaking. I'd try to track down the hiss. Since the bowl seal holds water, that should be fine. If you just had the duck bills changed by a shop, I suspect they missed something on reassembly. That hiss is your path to the source of the vacuum leak. There's lots of info on the internet about troubleshooting and rebuilding the system.

All steps went well. However I cannot get the bowl to seal to the base. It leaks under the band seals which do not come completely together no matter how hard I tighten. The clamp screw is in the back as shown in the video. Great video. Any help pleas.
@JCarlson3 жыл бұрын
Note that the clamp seal is "V" or "U" shape. it should grip the base and the bowl to clamp them together. Make sure the bowl is centered over the hole by looking down the bowl. Make sure the two parts of the sealing ring kit are in the correct order.

Thank you for this great video. Question: At about 10:28 you fast forward not showing the complete screw installing the brass part. Did it go in straight without a problem? I’m guessing yes but I ask because a comment from one of your other viewers noted that it was a real pain (for him) to install this brass part. Thanks, appreciate it !
@JCarlson2 жыл бұрын
Since that screw connects two new parts together, you should be able to test fit them outside the bowl. That screw passes through the brass shaft and into the plastic flush ball, making threads into the plastic. Make sure you have the right screw, otherwise, I suspect the flush ball is not sitting properly in the base, causing the hole in the shaft to not line up correctly with the hole in the flush ball. Try test fitting the parts outside the base.

Anyway you can put the links of the parts you got? I’m having trouble finding them and looks like you have the same toilet as me .

If you search for your model number on the internet, you should find a parts list and exploded view with the numbers. Your toilet should have a sticker with the model number under the collar as shown in the video. Good luck with your project.

Thank you for this video. I was going to do this today, but didn't realize I needed the grease. Looking online for it and there are many kinds. Do you have a recommindation?
@JCarlson4 жыл бұрын
Go ahead and do the change. You can add the grease later, when you get some. It's kind of temporary anyway, at least on the flush ball. Many RV people add a little to the flush ball occasionally to help the seal and prevent the ball scratches. Most RVers I've talked to have never lubricated the toilet in any way, but I recommend it. The grease is silicone type, and can be found at Home Depot plumbing department, RV supply, pool supply, Amazon, and your local hardware store. I does wash away, so I like to re-apply as part of normal maintenance. I don't have a preference for brand. Put a little on top of the water valve, too, where it rubs on the foot pedal arm with every flush.
@pamandress5334 жыл бұрын
@@JCarlson Thank you so much. I live in this full time, so repairs are a must. I did order the grease on Amazon and got it today. As soon as I have time I will be doing this.

Going to do this, but one question. I hear a faint hiss around the toilet, where i think the air is leaking. I don’t lose water in the bowl, but the cycle comes on every 3-4 hours. Will this fix that problem? Or is it something else?

Bob Smith again All steps confirmed. Ball seals correctly installed. The v/u seal is it symmetric or is there left right top bottom. Since it does not completely come together when tightened I position that directly under the band screw in the back I am using a ratchet and tightening way beyond reasonable.

question can i remove the whole toilet and fix it out side the restroom ??
@JCarlson4 жыл бұрын
Sure. Of course you need to disconnect the water supply, and since the bowl has to come off anyway, I suggest you loosen the band clamp (one screw) and pull the bowl just to make that easier. Also, there's a toilet to floor seal you may want to replace.

My 300 series is constantly flowing atm. Iv replaced rear valve.. please help!
@JCarlson4 жыл бұрын
Constant water flow can only be caused by a bad water valve on the side, or the flush pedal not returning fully to the home position (maybe spring cartridge, or flush pedal arm or cover). The valve at the rear is an anti-siphon valve, and doesn't control the water flow.
