Replacing a Dometic RV Toilet Flush Valve and Ball Valve Seal

In this video, I performed a minor repair to our Dometic 310 RV toilet. First, I replace the flush valve that has been letting too much water into the bowl after a flush. This is annoying when we are off-grid camping and trying to conserve water and tank capacity.
While at it, I decided to replace the ball seal that keeps water in the toilet bowl. It is the original and 13 years old now. Likey, its days are numbered.

Pulled my old rv toilet out and put a Dometic rv/boat macerating toilet in. I’ve had it for two years now. Best decision ever

Why did you need a macerator? Were you getting clogs or something? So far I haven't felt the need to change the toilet, no issues with dumping or clogging going on 13 years now. Every few months I do a good flushing with a cleaning wand and run the built in flusher for a while.

Not so much as a “need” due to clogging but rather a comfort decision. Much less maintenance and I have completely lost the tank smell.

Just a FYI ... I use "Plumbers Grease" a couple times a year around the ball seal. It keeps them nice & soft.. Looking forward to the frig fan video. I DIY a couple on our last trailer using computer fans. Haven't gotten around to the new (16 months old) yet. Again; TNX for the instructional video.

A good way to extend the life of the seal is to add a bit of plumbers grease to it a few times a year. Its silicone based so won't hurt the rubber and helps it not dry out and work well. Can be found at pretty well any hardware store. :)

I Doubt you had a chance to check out my video on the very same problem. We had it twice. And it flooded our floor both times in the middle of replacing my floor right now. But back to what you are doing. I think you might want to put a shut off. Valve in between the toilet and the floor very easy to do. Because if that bus, there's no way to shut off the water without shutting off the water everywhere. Anyway, online, it's like that.

Thanks for the tip! What I've been doing the last few years since the camper is getting old now is to not hook to the city water supply and always now run off our fresh tank and pump instead. Have gotten very used to it since we dry camp so much. I think its a good way to go with the old camper in case of a leak I will hear the pump cycling and be alerted to it and very easy to shut off with just a flick of the water pump switch and worse caser scenario is a max of 60 gallons can flood out as that is the max of the fresh tank. We turn off the pump as routine when we go to sleep or leave the rig. Cheers! Ray

​​@@LoveYourRVWe were using the pump the last time It failed. Vicky was in the shower and the pump was running. As we were, phone docking didn't notice. It was slotting until she got out of the shower and water it over, filled the toilet and ran all the way across the floor into the kitchen area. From that point on, until we got home, we could not turn Pump on because it was just over floor the toilet again. That's why I put a shut off Valve write before the toilet switch.

For emergencies I carry one of these in my tool box. www.homedepot.ca/product/sharkbite-1-2-inch-brass-push-to-connect-end-stop/1000792772 Its a push on Sharkbite end cap so I can cut into any of the PEX plumbing feeds in the RV and cap a leak if needed.
