RIP MF DOOM. I honestly can't believe he's passed on, but I believe his music will continue to inspire current and future generations of incredible musicians like yourselves. The soul of his music lives on while he starts his next journey. Thanks for what you do guys.

It's really amazing his sound. But don't forget that fast and short note durations are just one way to express. Sometimes that staccato style sounds stifled. There are drummers who go for the "legato" style....it's a whole different mindset. Probably lost any readers at this point---but it's about TONE instead of tight blips.....although I do like what this drummer is doing. He has some interesting time feels in there. Halfway swung/straight beat.

@phonkyfeel1
@phonkyfeel1 3 жыл бұрын
@@evannewman8381 I've been listening to Louis Cole for a grip of years! Yeah he is sick as 💩!! My point was that most drummers don't think about note length or duration or tone. Just short, disconnected...Not a complaint. I love both of their drumming examples. Was just saying there's another world or 50 other worlds of great drumming styles!!
@nasirhill
@nasirhill 3 жыл бұрын
@@phonkyfeel1 got any recommendations?
@phonkyfeel1
@phonkyfeel1 3 жыл бұрын
@@nasirhill the father of the "legato" (long) style is Mel Lewis. Most listeners are not going to be so familiar with Mel Lewis, he was a seminal Bop and Big Band drummer/bandleader from the late '50s to the early 90s. So let me suggest someone else...Billy Martin from Medeaki, Martin, and Wood. Basically what I'm getting at is "tone" and "decay length" ....lots of drummers only think about the attack/hit and don't pay much attention to connecting sounds together. It seems obvious that THIS drummer is going for the disconnected/short note length sound. All I'm getting at is not to forget that clipped/short/staccato is the trend currently. All good, didn't mean to start a whole discussion about it.

First time seeing/hearing these people play. It’s fucking stupid unbelievable. I feel stupid not being able to hear the rhythm beyond the playing going on because I can’t believe how it’s all going on the rhythm, then stupid for thinking the ability is unattainable, because anything is possible, but I’m not naturally skilled to begin with or even want to commit the time to lock that up, because it’d be the last thing I do for the whatever years are left in my life. 50+ I can bass, guitar, piano, sing, harmonica/flute, but drumming has that damn difference, but I don’t mind. I love being dumbstruck by stuff like this still. It’s fun. This person can have it all and I don’t mind they do. Super fucking cool to hear. Fuck.

@@brvnotrash yes of course gifts exist. When Domi was only 15 years old only there was only a few guys in the world who could play like her. That’s what I mean when I say she’s gifted. After one year in the French conservatory of Nancy, the teachers didn’t know what to do with her, no one was able to play like her. They called Berklee music school in Boston who immediately decided to take her. But the fees were to high for her parents. Berklee took her to president Obama who was delighted to pay her 4 years Berkeley fees. The White House do that every year for a couple of extremely talented young foreigners. That’s what I mean when I say she’s gifted. Have you see the video where she’s listening to an Oscar Peterson’s solo and 10 minutes later she’s playing the solo note by note ? That’s what I mean when I say she’s gifted.
