Dominant Dog Collars and Slip Collars are tools used to manage dominant or aggressive dogs. In this video, you’ll learn the differences between both collars and why Dominant Dog Collars should be used on almost all dogs instead of a slip collar.

Very clever! I've been a top trainer for over 60 years, but never have seen this before. (I don't have big-headed dogs, but this is such important knowledge!). Thanks.

Thank you. I'm always looking for better ways to choke things. And this looks perfect. I use flat collars on dogs. But this kind of collar is good for using on certain types of dog trainers

We use smaller shackles, and didn't know this was a thing. Good to know. No webbing stretches that much... maybe 1/16 of stretch.

You totally missed the entire point or I "Fed" up and didnt make it clear. If you did what you suggest and you had a dog that was seriously trying to bite you or attack someone or attack another dog - you do not want 6 inches of slack in your leash because you have a slip lead with a stiopper. Once a dog understands how a collar like these work they quickly learn to respect them - thats if the handler is a good enough trainer to know how to introduce them. When a big dog is coming after you there is a huge difference between one inch and 6 inches in a leash correction. Once you have had that happen 20 or 30 times, or worse get seriously dog bit - you will better understand I hope that clears things up a little

The access cord of a normal slip collar just become an extention of a separate lead you simple adjust your hand position to compensate, absolutely no need for extra arm movement to apply either pressure or a correction. Exactly the same as a 1 pce slip lead.

I will agree that a slip lead leash with a stop will work - not a slip lead collar with a stop. Again I will say that this collar or slip leads with stops (which I also sell on Leerburg) are designed for serious aggression either towards a handler or other dogs or people. ç When you make comments like yours "absolutely no need for extra arm movement to apply either pressure or a correction." only tells me you do not have experience training or handling either tough police service dogs or just large untrained dogs with aggression. Don't kid yourself into thinking your going to protect yourself or somone else with a slight arm movement - thats pie in the sky BS.

Nowhere in you original video did you highlight or mention defensive handling techniques & that's exactly what they are & again I can see no benefit of your collar over a normal slip collar in those circumstances. You were the one to introduce the need to avoid excessive arm movement which I took to mean during normal handling. It is a shame that in defense of your presentation you feel the need to criticise me personally. I think the main benefit of your collar would be that you haven't got to go over the head of the Dog as its fitted around the neck like a conventional collar but you didn't highlight this point.

@@BushmanBove You simply lack experience dealing with handler aggressive dogs. So you may not understand. I started back in 1974 and never stopped. I looked at what you do. No insult meant here but you need to keep learning, because you have a lot to learn about dog training and dealing with aggressive dogs.

My dogs can overpower me with a slip not with a prong. Not aggressive just head strong and my male hates the sound the prong makes putting it on, I have to corner him to get it on. Can I switch to a dominant dog collar? Will it work the same as a prong?

In my opinion it works better on a dog if your prepared to learn how to use it properly. (and I sell a ton of prong collars) The problem with prongs is thet can make a dog more hectic r even more aggressive towards the handler. There is less if a issue with this if you take the time to introduce it properly and use it the way I explain.

Like reinventing the wheel. They've already got slip leads with stops for this. This used to be a dog training channel, now it's like watching newest gadget of the week sales channel.

This isn't a NEWEST and GREATEST gadget - I came up with it in the early or mid 1990's when I was importing and breeding GSD for police work - I suggest you read my answer to the comment under yours. You may learn something. But your smart-ass comment only confirms you have a lot to learn about working with dominant and aggressive dogs. I guess the point I missed was that a dominant dog collar works 2 ways - it works as a backup cillar when using a prong collar - because prongs do come apart and that always happens with the dog is doing something it needs a correc tion for - without a backup on the dog will be off leash if the prong comes part. People dont keep a slip lead and a prong collar leash on the dog at the same time. Does that make a little more sense? You comment on being a sales channel is also correct. I have been producing dog training videos sinc e 1982 probably before you were born. We are not a big. company - its my wife and I and about 10 employees. For 40 years I have only sold top of the line training equipment - we dont compete with chewy and china.

@@Rallyon404 You really have a beautiful training facility. I looked at it on your channel. When I did this video I was just interested in demonstrating how much larger a slip collar needed to be to get over the head of a lot of dogs with big heads. Something I should have gone into was the fact that a slip lead will work but not with a prong collar. The dominant dog collars are the perfect collar to be used as a backup collar when using a prong collar. A slip lead cant be used for that purpose - well it could if one wanted to walk a dog and have two leashes on it. Bottom line for me is I spent half. y life working with strong tough dogs for law enforcement, these collars have saved my bacon more times that I can even remember - and once a dog understands how they work then decide that tryiing to bite me is not a good idea.
