Hey Von! I love your art so much! It feels really weird thinking that I could ever give you any tips... I have a couple that may be helpful. About the dumping from one cup intro a second cup.. I don't understand how or why but your pot time is longer if you transfer into a second cup. If you tip the first cup upside down and let the little bit of resin cure you will be able to just peel it right out and then can reuse your cup. Also when you have so many cabs to dome if you mix in two smaller batches of resin your workable pot time doubles, if that makes sense, less hurry, less stressed Von 😀. I learned the hard way.. Lastly.. the tape is a great idea, you have made an awesome discovery! They make resin doming mats that are really expensive so the thrifty person in me started looking.. ultimately I went into the fridge and swiped the cardboard egg crate things from a 5 dozen pack of eggs. I sprayed the little peaks with tacky glue and stuck a cab to the top of each one. That way I could run my stick around the edge of each cab and it very nicely covered both the top and the sides. The little drips fell right off onto the the egg crate after a couple of hours I just took a clean stick and double checked to make sure there weren't any bulbs hanging below. I've learned so much from you I hope that you find something in my rambles helpful! ♥️

Hi Yvonne, Firstly I should say that I don't work in the quantities that you do, but when I saw your cabs all stick together, I wanted to show you what I use to stop that from happening. It's the best little flexible silicone doming tray, with tiny upward-pointing fingers that you place your cabs onto for doming. The silicone fingers support the cabs & stop them sliding into each other. Any excess resin drips down between the fingers, leaving v limited clean-up. Mess doesn't adjoin your cabs to each other, as the surface is level but not flat. I had tried plastic doming trays in the past & they were awful - just like a Hama/Perler bead board, & the cabs slid around all over the place, then you couldn't get the hard resin back out of tray, but the silicone doming tray has none of these problems. It's just a little small for commercial quantities of cabs, but do have a look at it anyway, as I'm sure it will give you ideas. Here's the link & Fran at Little-Windows is lovely if you need any help. www.little-windows.com/collections/doming-trays/products/large-silicone-doming-tray

Yvonne, I messed around with resin a long time ago--I don't do anything anymore, but that's another story. The resin pieces I made back then have YELLOWED!!! So disappointing, because I made so MANY pieces with very subtle color effects. Is your resin a non-yellowing resin? I even tried UV resin. Got the UV light box and everything. Am enjoying watching your videos. You're stirring my idea box. :)

I have a question. I hope you get this! Anyways, what if I go to cut my polymer clay, but I use that technique where I put plastic down 1st to give it that rounded effect. I really like that look. But I also really like the look that a top coat of clear resin makes. Could I do that rounded effect on my polymer clay cut outs and still dome with resin? Would the resin drip off and break that resin edge barrier that allows it to dome?
@backtoearthcreations5 жыл бұрын
Hello! I have had a really hard time merging the 2 techniques, but have had some success with using uv resin painted on thinly and cured quickly. I hope this is helpful to you!

Hi Von! I bought some pre-made polymer clay beads a few days ago and whatever was used to seal the clay caused the beads to stick to each other inside the bag because of how tightly packed in they were. When I was gently pulling them apart the beads became damaged some had chunks taken out of them, others only damaged the coating and a couple even had the metal centres of the beads pop out as well! Do you know of anyway to fix the problem? I'm on a pension so I have very limited funds for buying anything to fix them with and I think they were on clearance so I probably can't get my money back.

Yvonne, do you sand all your Cabs after the resin has cured? I have watched so many videos and it appears this step is either left out of the video or the piece isn’t sanded. I have used resin once before and it was not shiny when cured. I would love to try this process but will wait for clarification on the sanding. As always, you have created awesome pieces.

It’s the canon monoxide being released at the surface to pull the bubble out of the surface of the resin , that is created by the flame ... you could actually just breathe closely over a piece and the bubbles would pop!! 😉... I am surprised the heat caused by the gun didn’t heat thru the clay to warp it!!! Also, wax.... rubbing wax around the edges will keep the resin from sticking. I’ve used resin on large tables and things Running wax around the edges where I don’t want the resin to stick , will allow me to peel it away and scrape or cut the excess off after partial cure, and even some cases after full cure as like on wax paper !!

I do. Some say you shouldn't because of the fumes, but I've never noticed a problem.
@dawnhill25086 жыл бұрын
Truthification Chronicles awesome thanks!! I have a toaster oven too so I think I'll use that instead
@TruthificationChronicles6 жыл бұрын
The main thing to be careful of with a toaster oven is temperature. The temps tend to vary more and it's important for the clay to be at the proper temperature for a sustained amount of time so the complete bonding takes place. Also, make sure to cover your clay with like aluminum foil or something because typically the top element is so close to the clay it can burn it. All I have is a toaster oven (a larger one, though), so those are some things I experienced with my first few batches of clay. I also bake things on a glass trivet I got at Dollar Tree (I scraped off the rubber footings). I think the glass helps radiate the heat more evenly (I'm sure a tile would do the same). (While I use the glass to bake on, I also put things on parchment paper because the glass will make shiny spots on the back of the piece and, unless the piece is perfectly flat and all of it is touching glass, it looks spotty. The parchment paper gives an even baking surface in my experience.) Now, if you were baking a ton of clay each day, a dedicated oven for it might be necessary, but if you're only doing a few pieces every so often, I wouldn't worry about it. I've been doing it this way for like a year and no ill effects. :o)
