I just have to say, I love the level of confidence it takes to film yourself experimenting and making goofs. It's very inspiring to watch. A tip that I thought of while you were pouring the hearts: Add a small layer to all the molds first and gradually top them off. If you need to add more resin, you can add more and give them a gentle stir, this will ensure consistent color between all the pieces.

I love that you are sharing while learning and growing your own skills. I have only done one resin project so I’m glad to see this. I wasn’t sure how much to mix so before starting I added water to molds, poured it off and then measured water. That helped to make enough resin without wasting it. It worked for me anyway.

Hi! I'm a Soaper that's expanding my art as I want to sell at Ren faires and festivals. Soap uses mica and some of the same pour techniques. I would suggest that you use less mica. The amount you used is what I would use in two pounds of soap. It doesn't take much. Hope this helps. Finding your channel has been a major help to me

The faceted gems are STUNNING. Less is deffo more. You should keep those scraps and combine them into one big pour. Make some cool wall art maybe. Also play around with sand. Use the materials that sink to your advantage. Imagine a pendant with a pointed crystal tip, the tip is shimmery sand, going into a crystal clear aqua blue, let that half set after a hour then a nice clear.

And you’re not limited. Could use soil, the let that set then add a green layer, then some small dried flowers in a light blue and then more blue for sky. Or imagine if you cast one of your wire and stone trees inside a sphere of amber, the roots all twisted on the bottom half. There’s a lot of down sides to using this product but the REALLY special creations are the ones where you use those flaws to make something beautiful.

I have been making resin jewelry for a few months, here are my tips. Alcohol inks can prevent resin from setting. Yes, a little pigment goes a long way. I use the plastic lids from disposable aluminum pans to cover my castings. Experiment experiment experiment. As usual, you just taught me about putting metallic nail polish on the back. I am going to try that right now.

@Yvonne Williams A trick I used when making prosthetic mold pouring silicone (cause that shit is $$$$) Before I pour I take rice and pour that into my mold to see how much silicone I will need. I now never have too much or wasted product. Also If I a molding from molds like you have it write with sharpie on handle how much to fill the whole mold and how much just one of the shapes from the mold takes. Leaves guessing game out of it. Awesome job!! Thank you for sharing your learning process, it is so helpful. Also that blue left over resin look like a fin or coral. I love the idea of resin fairy wings but would it get too heavy? PS if you let the resin cure till is get gelly like then add the pigments they will not sink to the front.

I'm also a beginner when it comes to working with resin and a good tip someone told me was; when coloring your resin remember less is more, adding tons of pearl x and dyes will over dye your resin so that your pieces come out way to dark and pouring a clear batch first before you pour a colored batch can make your pieces look better...if your doing just glitter and resin than its not always necessary to do a clear pour first.., also even if you have a tiny bit of resin left, you should pour into a small resin mold or combine colors if you have more than one left over..hope this helps..

I enjoyed your 2nd learning experience, which was also a visual learning for me. When I saw your leftover resin I immediately thought of a wall sconce lamp shade. When the light is on it will shine through as it did when you held it up to the window. Even the tiny holes from the air bubble will shine light through and be very cool. IMHOI if you plan to start selling your products you need to make sure the animals are not allowed in your craft room and to ensure no hairs or dust drift in use a canned air duster. Many people are allergic to dust and animal hair and food (nuts, strawberries etc) so ensure every thing is wiped clean with alcohol before sending. Also if you cover the resin in the molds as they dry you will reduce the introduction of airborne particles as before mentioned. Also invest in a level if you don't have one so that your molds are level as the dry. Inside that banker box lid was probably not level. Loved your video, you speak well, your camera was in the right place 95% of the time and you gave understandable descriptions of what you were doing. Keep it up and I will keep watching. Best of luck.

Yvonne that blue pour would make an awesome base for a fairy house on a pond with some lilly pads, frogs, and maybe dragon flies on cat tails??? I got the same mod podge molds that you did the other day and I hadn't even watched that video yet..I thought was sorta funny....All the mod podge stuff that goes in them is is colored hot glue so since I already have glittery colored hot glue and a plethora of glue guns I opted for just the molds...but I imagine the work great for resin!!!

Vonn, you can actually get a stained glass effect for jewelry by making a nouveau style frame with wire, using packing tape to back the frame, and then gently filling the frame with colored resin. I’ve done it before, but only recently learned that in order to get the nice stained glass effect, you have to use colored India ink to tint the resin. :D

Would it help to fill the molds with water (ahead of time to give them time to dry back out) to about the same level you want the resin to be, then pour the water into a measuring cup or just a regular cup, then mark or write down how much you will need? I haven't done anything with this resin I got yet, but when I do, I am wondering how to gauge how much I will need. The only thing I could come up with would be to just measure the amount in water, then mix that same amount of resin when the time comes to actually make something with the resin.
@yrtott
@yrtott 6 жыл бұрын
That is exactly how to do it. Or even better, if you have a syringe, see exactly how many ml of water you put in, then you can even write on top of each mold how much they each contain so you remember til next time. I know someone else wrote to use rice ,but you will still have space between the grains of rice so the measurements will be a bit off.
