the great example of this style of medieval sound is the song You Will Be My Ain True Love. Sung by the wonderful Allison Kraus, it's Sting's ear for melody and harmony that makes that song sound so haunting.

Jeffrey Lee Campbell, the guitarist who toured with Sting during the marathon Nothing Like the Sun tour, wrote a detailed, brutally honest and very entertaining book about his experience. He wrote about the time Sting absolutely ripped into the band because they weren’t present, moaning about the grueling schedule and basically mailing it in. Sting wasn’t having it.

"Happy Accidents," are what my family calls those moments when the unexpected is discovered while the original planning goes awry.😊 Edit: He dropped me into serious flashbacks with the, "35 years." I immediately was in the back seat of a tiny little compact car. My friend's older brother is driving. We're going over a two lane curvy mountain pass on our way home from the high school. It's gruesomely hot out. No air conditioning. The windows are all rolled down. The car is overloaded. And he's shifting up and down through the gears as he's racing and braking through these crazy dips and turns, as fast as he can go. It became even more surreal with, "Murder by Numbers," blasting at high decibels with everyone screaming and screeching along with the lyrics. 😂 It was the one and only time that I hitched a ride home with him. I have no idea how I survived that trip.😳🤭😂🤣🙃 123ABC

Oh yeah! the ages catch up to you and the half steps start slip sliding away....,and he's so right - when you change the key of a song - it basically demands you re-think the song...,I do this all the time because most rock singers have a higher range than I do...,so I have experimented with alt tunings which allow me to "interpret" a song rather than copy it...,I think it's very similar to what Dominic is talking about. Dropping a key a perfect fourth is drastic - a real challenge. But even dropping a half step demands a lot of the guitar and the arranger (ie the guitarist)...,

Dominic Miller is truly the employee of the decade!!! Asked: Aren't you bored with playing same stuff over and over? Answered: "Nope. Who am I to think for myself, to propose anything. I won't come up with anything better. My boss (Sting) is a genius and his work is perfection! My role is to do what I am told to do. Sting decides about any changes, as prodigy, author it is his natural, birth right. I don't have any input, don't have my own spin on anything."... "Sting comes up with such unusual chords, it's lateral music, amazing, splendid, marvelous that is why I find it always interesting!". I wonder if Dominic had to ask Sting for permission, "I was asked for an interview can I go?" Sting "Why not, but don't say anything stupid, like you often do Don, go have a fun". Are you guys laughing? I am not. Remember when Bruce Springsteen fired Ban Zandt because he became too popular? Stars don't like in their bands guys who have their own ambitions. That is why such Dominic is perfect choice- this guy is obviously very proficient, good guitarist and same time absolutely Beta guy, used to follow the leader!

I love sting and Dominic however, the police song riffs and drum arrangement are not stings. He wrote the song but the riffs and drum beats are Andy's and Stewart's. Roxanne was written as a bosa nova by sting. It's Stewart and Andy that turned it into the song it became. These guys just don't get the credit they deserve for the Police songs

@tomaszprzetacznik78028 күн бұрын
Fact is that they just had to change key of some of the The Police songs not because it makes em more interesting or cool but plainly because Sting doesn't have same voice as he had 30-40 years ago! His voice has just aged, it didn't age well, and since he had a very high pitch, he lost it over time as his vocal cords naturally thicken and the voice deepens with age. Additionally, as can be heard at the end of many of his tours, Sting would strain his voice. You can hear it on live recordings where he often struggles with his vocals. It’s so common that I don’t know why he doesn’t admit it. Clearly, Sting is such a megalomaniac that Dominic is afraid to say anything that could undermine Sting's image.

After Dominic Miller was asked if he ever gets bored of playing Sting and The Police hits over and over, and he responded - that he doesn't, because Sting’s songs are so amazing that he wouldn’t have written anything like that himself, I felt kind of sorry for the guy. I was also disgusted when, in the other montage (easy to find on KZbin), they were sitting together and Sting was clearly mocking Dominic, throwing out with a malicious smile, “You have to show them your version of The Beatles… c'mon play them your version of ‘Yesterday’…” Dominic hesitated, but in the end, he played like a well-trained monkey. Seems kind of sad. On one hand he travels all over a world playing at huge gigs, & maybe I am projecting on him my feelings but the way he talks about Sting feels like stuff I have seen in corporations with people who had toxic bosses. And I have worked a lot as freelancer with various organizations and I have seen all versions of it and believe me when I say some where so similar to stuff Miller says.

Defo agree with this. The original recorded version of “So lonely” defo relied on a frenetic punk energy and crazy high throat ripping vocal from sting. Now when Sting plays it live it’s in a lower key it barely works at all
