Delightful Travellers

Күн бұрын

In this video we're talking about how we made big mistake! After spending 8 months in the Dominican Republic we left to travel the world and ended up going too fast, not doing enough slow travel and trying to visit too many places. In the video we talk about the pros and cons of long term travel versus staying in one place for longing periods. We also talk about how much we love the Dominican Republic, specifically Cabarete where we've moved to. We discuss the reasons why this place feels like home now.

Trevor and Anna: My husband and I retired a year ago. We’re beach town lovers now love walking. We just spent two months in Puerto Rico n loved it, but we’re looking for a place were we don’t have to rent a car, since we’re planning on staying Longer periods of time, confusing Ubers or Expensive Taxis. I think we’ve nailed it with your very much appreciated help. Been watching your DR videos n have fallen in love with Cabarete. Cabarete sounds just like the place for us, exactly what we’ve been looking for. Unfortunately, we’d have to do high season, as we’re escaping the winter cold, so we’re ok with that as long as we have everything else. Do you have stays you’d recommend? We love Airbnbs for the space n kitchens as we cook most of our meals. Don’t like resorts, as we love experiencing the local’s life n food. Also, if we flew into Puerto Plata (POP airport), how would we get to our place n then back to airport to come back home to Chicago, IL. And if we wanted to venture out, can Uber be trusted? How’d we go about that? Thank you for your hard work. Love live your videos. God bless!

Trevol and Ana, it's nice you khow your decided to stay in Cabarete, Dominican Republic like as a place of operations. Cabarete ist a special place because many foreigners reside there. Cabarete is a good option to be in a small city with different cultures. From the Dominican Republic you can take quick flights to Caribbean islands, we have many islands near here: Puerto Rico, Jamaica, the Virgin Islands, etc. You can also go through Central America with flights from the Dom Rep. Visit Santiago de los Caballeros and you must go to Bahía de Las Águilas!

I moved here to the DR 15 years ago, first living in the Las Terrenas area then moving to the Town of Jaracoboa which is in the Mountains, if you want to see other cities, visit this town, its like living in San Francisco, the weather is just the best. Food choices are outstanding, there's river rafting, parapenting, waterfalls galore, RENT is cheap $250 for 2 bdrm house. Life here is the best, and the beach is only a 2 hour drive, Santiago is 45 mins, the Capitol is 3 1/2 hr drive. Come visit, I;m a retired expat from the US.

I started watching your videos about 2 years ago when you first went to the DR because I was interested in going there (checking it out as part or full time place to retire). I had also heard a lot about the north coast (specifically Las Terrenas) which appealed to me. Now I am heading to Samana Airport to live in LT for a few months. I know you too are still pretty young, but have you thought about doing a video for people looking for a good spot to retire (especially for Canadians who are now facing such high living costs). Thanks for your great videos, Anna and Trevor!

check out Casa Linda in Sosua/Cabarete.....several communities with a lot of Canadians. Prices keep going up, and I am unfortunately already priced out of a lot of what is available on the North Coast. Happy hunting! I am an old timer that still thinks there are bargains to be had...those days are long gone, but if you are used to paying Canadian/US prices, I think the DR will still be a very good value for you.

I went to Cabarete for the first time in 2007. It was amazing. I came back to Canada and wanted to go back and find a way to live permanently in Cabarete. One rhing that stands out watching your vids there is how much more expensive everything is. Kinda spoils it a bit. It used to have a Bali, Southeast Asia vibe, but with these USD prices, not so much. I might make my way down in the next couple weeks to judge for myself in person. I do hope I'm somewhat wrong and is still friendly on the wallet.

I have been looking at a residency visa in DR. As an American it's only 60 days tourist visa, how were you able to stay 8 months? I am a pensioner so in alot of countries I qualify retirees visa. I'll be in DR, in March
