Just spent 11 hours cooking for 60 clients in an old aged peoples home , full breakfast, Roast Turkey or roast gammon for dinner (yorky puds, stuffing, roast potatoes, glistening gravy) and to finish the days treats I did them a good old English Buffet tea (pork pies, sausage rolls , scotch eggs, cheese and pineapple sticks, sandwiches, with a good old fashioned sherry trifle to finish). Now it's Dom time, sat with a McEwans best Scotch and a smile on my face, best time of the week.

Loving your 'have a go' approach to this. Most people would give up almost straight away. That mini Ranalah and the tool post are working really well. There is such a strong 'this WILL be finished' positive vibe that I'll be confidently and enthusiastically following this thread. Good practice for the Porsche as well I think. So much to look forward to, thanks.

A super episode. It seems that you got the bearing on the baby Ranalagh to quieten down for the second panel. The pedal car is a great project on its own, but the jobs you are doing on it will also prove excellent practice for when you are able to get back onto the Porsche, where the stakes are higher (no pun intended for your beautiful new work stand). Best wishes.

I just got home to Vancouver after visiting the magnificent Schlumpf Collection at the Nationale Musée D’automobile in Mulhouse, France….. the biggest car museum in Europe with over 500 cars including an amazing collection of Bugatti’s and Etore Bugatti’s personal Royale. Anyway, towards the end of the exhibit hall is an immaculate collection of kids cars. Nestling at the back is a fine example of a J40, unusually in black. I wanted to post a pic of it here, but lack the technical know how. Anyhoo, For many reasons, I would highly recommend a visit to this wonderful place.

I expected a bit of 'shrinking' on the center of those right angle lips. I've always found those bends try to undo some of the curve on a panel. But, then, I'm used to replacing panels on full size vehicles... 😛

@@DominicChineas - Ahh, right. I think it's because I'm used to working in wood that the idea of shrinking or stretching metal is somewhat like alchemy. It shouldn't be really, I've watched you do it often enough! I need to think about the process a bit more deeply!

Hi Dom, Great episode. One thing I have seen and read about is the first pass for tipping use a skateboard wheel as the bottom wheel. This soft bottom wheel starts the bend and then a hard wheel for the rest gets the tipping done.. Great project. Thanks for sharing.

Hi,Dom. All coming together nicely now👌. On the subject of handwheels being too small to be practical it is an error I see often on small milling machines and lathes...just because the machine itself is half or quarter of the size of a commercial machine does not justify the control handwheels being made miniature to the point where they are impracticable to the user.

Hey Dom, how come you didn't use the bead roller to tip those edges further???? It looks like those edges/ folds are rounded more than shape and square. Not being picky but constructive. But WOW!! love the mini ran!!!! Oh that Ranalah tool post is very close to what I knocked up. Nice!!!!

I think a good wheeler design improvement would be to use either shielded or sealed bearings. Is there a particular reason for using 'open' type bearings since they will colllect all sorts of debris in relatively no time at all which is far from ideal?
@DominicChineas5 ай бұрын
The bearings will be sealed in the mini ranalah, this is just a test machine and the bearings are clearly absolutely knackered!

Something is wrong with the bearings in the little Ranalah EW, no way should they be making that noise. I'm wondering if they've been fitted too tight taking up the internal clearance and they've been damaged as a result.
