Very good. The elephant gobbling metaphor is a good one for such a monumental undertaking. It's so easy to imagine that I'll just chop out the rusty sections and weld in some new stuff. You're showing us how far from simple it really is. I really admire you for doing this to such a high standard without a specialized, elaborate restoration garage.
@lynnedwards746216 күн бұрын
Yay! Dom in his element, welding, hammering, cutting with the grinder... Thank you for progress on the 356!
@Qspecialman12 күн бұрын
As always an excellent video Dom. I know from the many vehicles I have restored you start cutting and welding in new panels and it's like chasing smoke. Cut out one piece and you find more rot, repair that and find more rot. Thats just the way it is, I'm afraid. But we all have to dream of what the car will look like when she is finished. We all have that dream....... car finished and off down the road we drive. That's what keeps us all going.

I just finished binge watching all the episodes leading up to this one. I am hooked! What a labour of love this car is. I can't wait to see the next episode and also the first time it rolls out of the shop under its own power again. Amazing work!
@deliawolfe16 күн бұрын
I lived most of my adult life in the USA Rust Belt States. It's not the best environment for anything made of steel, so battling rust was a constant task. The cars were sometimes so badly rusted there was no remaining connecting metal. And as you point out, there were often critical structural areas where three or four panels overlapped. I admire your persistence, craftsmanship and optimistic nature as you peck away at the rot, bringing this one back from the dead. It's a noble cause, indeed!

Only thing I've subscribed to. Great videos. Really appreciate your attention to detail. It's so essential. The craftsmen that originally built that car would be smiling.

I don't think people have a real grasp on how astonishing an automobile assembly line is unless you have restored automobile , the 356 is shaping up and no need to rush because Imo this is the fun part the part you will look back on my fondly than the driving , heck you know that more than most lol

I enjoy all the content on your channel, Dom, and especially the variety, so a Porsche update is welcome, in turn. I'm sure the many Porsche fans would want more Porsche, but the 356 project is going to be a case of cut-shape-weld-grind-repeat for a long, long time to come, so I'd just like to say that this was about the right length for the new content (for the non-Porsche followers). Nevertheless, I hope you do manage to find the time to get some serious progress over the next few weeks. Cheers.

I don’t mind that it’s a 14:46 minute snippet of the Porsche 356 rebuild - I’m just happy that it’s still a viable project 👌 Your focus on detail is what’s going to separate it from some of the more questionable examples I’ve looked at over the last couple of decades.
