Dominions 5 Nation Analysis : EA Berytos

So somehow I got 1,000 subscribers. That's cool...
Are you ready for some Berytos theorycrafting.
A hybrid nation which includes Therodian, Hinnomite, Machakan, and Arcocephalian elements, Berytos is an elemental + blood nation with a functional troop lineup, sailing, and a number of other elements that combine to leave it spoilt for choice on tools.
A lategame nation at heart, Berytos has what it needs to make a go of it early, fending off enemies with elementals, lightning, or flaming arrows, before exploding into the late game with some fantastic, recruit anywhere blood hunters that can be used to summon a range of unique demons or Melquarts.
...I'm going to have to try these guys out sometimes, i'm not sure they're as weak as some claim.

I've been rewatching some of the national overviews lately, and the 1K sub commentary from Perun in the context of the channel's current success is great. Apparently the missing ingredient was just some real life Dominions.

I love the huge selection of gods berytos gets. Just when you're done looking at all the units and mages and done with the theorycrafting there. Suddenly 100 different god chassis appear. You can super super tailor your god to your specific plan for berytos. And with a decent variety of basic units you are flexible enough to respond to most threats. Very cool nation imo.

Gratz to the Great Lord of the skies on your 1000th sycophant!. You are fantastic and can lay your eggs in my skull any day! My favorite asset of your videos is your efficiency. You get in all the important stuff in an after action format including lore and RP without going on too long. Gamewise you should try Massive Chalice, KeeperRL and Duskers, which are games that dont get much coverage but are quirky and interesting. And Thea 1 if you havnt tried that yet. Try to avoid large publishers like Paradox and 2K that had stomped on the rights of customers or small developers. This may not be your thing but I'd be intersted in Australia videos. I went to Uni in Adelaide and feel there is soo many interesting things going on in Oz that the rest of the world never hears about. Certainly we'd love more Dom 5 videos..I'd like to see a lore by era series showing how the differnt nations are woven together in the lore. Be safe! Dont catch fire, disease, get shot by cops or drink any water in South Australia (its full of mining/smelting runoff).

More guides would be most appretiated. Edit: while there are guides available they are more focused on most popular and straightforward nations. Nations that are more difficult to play or less popular are with little online content. Berytos was good example for that. Also little can be found about pythium, erytheia, therodos, pelagia, phaeacia, vanarus...

One issue I've had with Berytos is finding a good source of demon leadership. The easiest way to resolve it is getting death bless points on the god and just adding some undead leadership bless, but otherwise it's pretty rough - you're at 10 on the Bride-in-Waiting and 5 on the priests. Until the death national hero spawns, you don't have a great way to get mound kings. Even the Melqarts only have 15.

Soul contracts are pretty expensive but give 5. Its not great to spend that much for it but a priest with that and 10 seir are going to be pretty tough raiders if you have a bless for the seir.

I really like the dormant Melqart bless for Berrytos, nothng extravagant but regen, reinvig and blood surge are good and useful always. Breaking higher into nature is also super important, cause regen rings and vine shields come in clutch and relying only on n1 indies is dicey at best. Plus that's a good bless for the Brides and Priests, makes Sabaths burn slower. As you said, there is a multitude of options for Berytos to expand with but getting rushed might be an issue. If you survive 2 years you can toss 4 kinds of elementals at your problems, and blot out the skies with flaming arrows but till then it can be rough

Congratulations for getting 1000 subscribers. Regading a special video for the occasion, do you have any all time favourite game you would like to show off? Concernening Berytos, I would suggest an awake expander with regeneration as a bless. It should be be a great boon for all of Berytos's sacreds, be they infantry, priests as communion slaves or Melquart supercombattants. In addition, such a pretender would enable some good site searching as well as high level spellcasting or crafting.

Hey man, just stumbled upon your channel and really like your content! Liked and subscribed to help you out haha. I've been playing Dom5 for a while but mostly screwing around in singleplayer. Can you do a video that helps transition singleplayers to multiplayers? I know some stuff such as expanding early game at least 1 province a turn and adapting your armies to your opponents armies. More detailed advice would be much appreciated! Also it would be cool if you did a video on SCs. I know they are no longer as powerful compared to Dom3 and 4, but ranking some of the easiest or most versatile chasis could make an interested video.

I know Perun is interesting and fun to watch in his but you should look at other Dom5 youtubers channels and nation analysis because they've already made the content you're looking for. I would suggest either General confusion, or lucid. I would also suggest just joining a low skill game, I know people who host those semi-regularly or channels which have a lot of new players looking to get their feet wet, this is probably the best way to improve/get into multiplayer.

Thank you! Every thing I was told about this nation boild down to "an amazing late game but simply ok before that". And when every one wants to kill you before the late game "ok" suddenly seems quiet weak. Very interested to see you play them.

That does reflect my own assessment, though I would not put their power spike that late. When I start next to Berytos killing them goes way up my priority list, because right now I can very likely take them, and the moment they start getting out even just 4-6 Se'ir a turn things immedietly get way more ugly.

I have played only 4 dom5 MP games so far, 2 of them as Berytos, and I banked my first win playing this nation. It is an extremely fun nation to play, and I would definitely reccommend trying them out! The Storm Callers are absolute beasts as far as mages go, and the demon summons (especially the Shedim) are game-winners. The Berytian Lancers have a very useful niche in the expansion phase: You can mix them in with elephant squads to hold enemies in place while your elephants come in and trample. This will increase your tramplers effectiveness TREMENDOUSLY. It is an extremely useful combo. Couple that with small expanding forces of statblessed Colossi Warriors and you can expand extremely well.

I'm not sure if it's worth much, but the the blood priests can boost their Divine path through communion. I guess it's a plus, to allow for H3+ spells if you don't have enough summoned H3 priests lying around. I'd imagine it could be a situational boon against some heavy undead/demon armies to spam a lot of strong banishments/smites.

Honestly, I'd prefer to see a combination of Nation Overviews and MP games. I'm a newer player that's finally gotten over the initial hump of having absolutely no idea what I'm doing, but I still find myself rather baffled by what sort of general strategy I should pursue with a new nation, and I find that I need to have some sort of general plan if I want to accomplish anything remotely efficiently. In addition, while people like Attica and GeneralConfusion do make guides, the sheer number of nations in the game means that it's a coin flip as to whether anyone has done a video on your preferred nation, and with them spread out over so many channels it's a pain to find them all. My dream would be for there to be a single, collected playlist that covered every nation (though of course practically nobody has that much experience to the point of being able to speak confidently on nearly 100 nations), at least to the point that scrubs like me could go into games with at least a vague knowledge of what each nation does. In addition, MP games are great as actual entertainment, especially when you follow them over the long term.

The only way you can truly improve is by playing.. I always pondered how people were able to win 3 front wars until I managed to do it myself. If I were you I would play a nation that you feel most familiar and comfortable with, and once you manage to stay late game with it, then diversify your portfolio and try out the other nations. Also, back in the day there use to be a guy who made a guide on almost every faction and had the skills to back up his crazy knowledge. Alas, this was back in the dom3/dom4 days when there was less nations. However, don't doubt that there are people that know every faction inside and out, barring the most recently added ones.

I think the Se'ir works well even without a strength bless. 16 (base) + 4 (berserk) + 4(blood lust) +4(strengths of the earth)=28 is a a lot of damage and quite doable for Berythos. EDIT: also the Golden Idol is only 90 for Berytos

Strength of the earth is the earth strength bless. I think you mean Strength of Giants for the buff spell? In that case that does not stack with Blood Lust, so only 24 strength. (Which is still a lot, but I personally would really like at lest 1 strength boosting bless for the early times.)

Heat 3 does technically encourage Abysia, but you have the tools to deal with Abysian infantry pretty easily so it's not that big a deal. Also, the Bronze Colossus actually cannot be taken awake, it must be dormant or imprisoned.

Bronze Colossus: A) Can't be taken awake. B) Is only unkillable until the other guy get's Earth and realizes smashers exist, then it's suddently way to vulnerable to ever use aggressively. Don't do Bronze Colossus. Edit: On second thought: Waving around a Bronze Colossus is a pretty strong "go fight someone else"-signal, and maybe that is already all that Berytos really needs. You can get a decent dormant Bronze Colossus with +4 Strength for your se'ir and +1 Scale before trashing, that is workable.

Id almost always rather have the wooden colossus. The paths are a lot better. ENB lets you do dormant fire shock+regen or 15 resist llv and blood for surge/strength/bond. Its not quite as focused on go away but can most certainly SC with ironskin resists and gear.

I also found that the troops, while a bit below average, can expand into indie adequately. The issue comes if you can't get a waste and have to fight a neighbor with a decent bless (like imprison rainbow level), and their troops often lose bumps with other player armies during expansion. So I've found their in-game expansion significantly worse than test expansions.

The troops are this middle thing between indies and good nationals. Until they get some magic support many other nations will just roll them.
