Dominions 6 - MA Asphodel - Ep 13 - Advancing on Sceleria

For setting up the LAD, there's a nice little UI element to help you. Squares stacked with units will have a slightly different shading than squares with one commander. I've found it useful for realizing when I misclick a commander into the wrong square. Not only did illwinter remove cast spells keeping a commander still, but stay behind troops let's a mage cast even if you don't want them too. I was hoping there'd be a way to turn off off path casting besides gear.

It is possible to SC a large army (not sure 4000 large). I used a titan with the unquenched sword and high reinvigoration. The sword clears chaff really efficiently, and thus you can still cast spells with advance and cast orders. Once twilight hits, most of the important buffs got re-cast off script and battle continued until turn 140 when enemy was completely killed. The enemy couldn't retreat due to heat from hell maxing their fatigue. Putting enemies to sleep gives extra opportunity to cast spells. Against 4000 the battle would probably time out at turn 200 and kill everyone.

Back to LAD for a sec, you could convert just the dryads with soul vortex. Put soul vortex on some pan apostate's (or carrion lord's) then surround every square with dryads. when they convert to carrion ladies they stop taking damage. The pan's of course still require a whacky solution. The axe of hate is a decent method when you consider the other option is twiceborn. And the axes are reusable and cost N gems (which you should have more of) instead of D

Dude, I would kill for a Majesty 3 with good AI.

Thugs can kill armies just fine in Dominions 6, you just need a kill mechanism. One of your W randoms with an SC kit doing Foul Vapors as his last spell should wipe all the living units in an AI Scelerian army, including all the undead leadership. And I think we'll see some midgame Wrathful Skies SCs.
