when this album came out one media outlet in particular hated it and described it as "two beach boys songs playing at the same time", which I think sounds fantastic.

It's a tendency of music critics to criticize things their brains can't process, hence why music critics are often harsher on foreign music than domestic. The genius of AC is in the interplay of these complex noises, but if you can't process it, you're SOL.

My english teacher in middleschool showed me Ac (i still look up to him to this day) and that was when i went on my journey to discover music that actually made me FEEL. I almost want to disregard all comments like the one you called out for several reasons, one of them being that Animal Collective tends to be too noisy to listen to on psychedelic drugs. There is beautiful artistry here, and you do not need drugs to appreciate it. Chances are, anyone who's ever actually tripped would know that Animal Collective is one of the most confusing/frustrating bands to listen to while tripping. Panda Bear's Tomboy, however...

@galactyk Your conclusion is somewhat flawed. Pitchfork stated the obvious. This is one of the best albums of all time by the best band of this generation. Not very hard to do what they did. As for hipsters, the movement is almost completely dead. Hard to have a movement based on originality when there are so many people that qualify as a stereotypical hipster. When "being a hipster" became cool, it died because those people didn't get the point of the movement they were trying to identify with.

ok folks, don't slate me but i don't get this band. I have tried, GOD have I tried. is it just hype? do the sheep lead the way and everybody else follows. Their like a faster version of the Beach Boys forty years on, wow! what evolution. before people start with the go back to pop shit, i detest pop! my musical taste is quite eclectic and I tried with this band but gosh are they over rated and quite squeaky. just for hipsters and people who read to much pitchfork.

And after all I'm only 12 with only 5 albums so far... I was just asking.
