My Dad passed away around a month ago now at only 51, and throughout his later years all he could ever talk about was that you HAD to listen to Animal Collective. like no other band mattered, even though he was a die hard Beach Boys Fanatic for almost 2 decades, this song made him go down the rabbit hole of every remix, remaster, and independent artist's music from the collectives music coming to modern day 2024. He described this track as the perfect pop song, and honestly I cant disagree with him. and for me being only 16 I think my big man put me on some pretty good shit when it comes to music, seeing how he blasted Merriweather everywhere we went as soon as I came out the womb . he used to see them live at least 5 times and finally got to take me at my birthday shortly before he was sent to the hospital. best concert of my life still to this day. To many more listens and tears shed to a song that has aged like wine...love you dad.

You're about the age I was when I too, lost my father young (mine was 48), and the memories that come from the music he showed me, flood my life with joy and reminders of him when I hear Zeppelin or the Beatles in public all these years later (28 now). You'll carry that last concert in your heart forever, I'm so glad you had that experience with him. I wish all the time I could have exposed my dad to the more artistic music I got into as I got older- I put him on alot of nu-metal and emo while he wea here 😂. Your comment has me reminiscing ❤ your dad will always be with you in the songs and memories you carry.

Oh, My brother, my dear brother, he left this world yesterday & this was his favourite song. Still remember when you were 14, I was 10 and you showed me this song. I was fascinated! You took me down the Rock N 'Roll path and thanks to you I developed my own musical tastes. Today, I discover that you left this world of your own free will, taking an overdose of pills until you were sound asleep. Dear brother, when I found out about that, coming to listen to this song was the only thing that occurred to me at the time, and here I am! listening to this song at 3 in the morning, while singing loudly and enjoying the music as if you are still with me to listen to it together. Brother, when you first showed me this song, you told me that we all had this song hidden within us, but we weren't brave enough to show them to everyone. Now I understand it and I am sorry I understood it too late. I love you, brother, and I will always love you. Thank you for showing me these musical wonders. I will miss you today, tomorrow and always.This song will always be a part of us, dear brother.

y'all, can I just say how refreshing it is to hear a song by grown ass men that refers to a "little girl" as an actual child being cared for and loved, instead of grown ass men basically singing about young women/teenagers they want to bang and calling them "little girls". that shit has bothered me since I WAS a little girl, and it's just nice to hear something that's not skeevy as all get out. such a great song for a slew of reasons.

AnCo was the first "indie" band I listened to back in 2007. This tune came out when I was a freshman in college. Now I'm 32 and it still hits me in the feels. May this arpeggio go on forever.

I bought this record back in 09, from the hype. Didn't love it, but always loved this song. Then, come this year, I went to my first Bonnaroo, and walked into their set, mere seconds after they finished talk with the crowd, they then launched into THIS. Forever reminding me how epic this piece is. Nature themed alternative electronica bliss.

Never cared much about Animal Collective, but I always loved this song. Probably because of the Juno 106 (I was a huge techno nerd). 15 yeas later and I come back to this song because the lyrics are so real. Having listened to a significant amount of music over the past 2 decades, I still think this one of the greatest songs

When I was young, maybe 12 or 13, I was awake around 2:30 a.m. watching MTV2. I want to preface this by saying at the time I was almost exclusively listening to Numetal. So I am half awake and this video starts playing. The instant the guitar exploded through my television it was like a nuclear bomb exploded in my mind. The song, the video, the lyrics, all of it, in that moment it changed me completely. A whole new world appeared in front of me and I never wanted to go back to where I was before. I ended up buying the album, Funeral, on itunes and played the album in its entirety hundreds of times. About a year later I decided to google the band the first thing that came up was Pitchfork Media's review of the album. A 9.7. At the time I didnt know how significant that score was and how monumental the album was but that day I entered a rabbit hole of music I still have not left. From Arcade Fire to Animal Collective to Deerhunter to so many more amazing bands all because when I was a dumb teenager I stayed awake too late and was blessed with true magic. Now these days I show my son all the songs I love. Few things bring me more joy. Thank you, MTV2.

When I first heard this song I didn't think much of it. I then got high as balls at a time when I was really struggling with depression and listened to it again. I cried at how beautiful it was, the sound and the theme both. Ultimately, that's all I wanted too, contentment with family and a roof over my head. MPP quickly became my favourite album.
@stickstickly91412 жыл бұрын
So we had the same exact experience! I was going through an awful time with my OCD which lead to me becoming severely depressed, and I was on a trip at this time 13 years ago. I snuck out of the 4th of july party to smoke a bowl. My iPod classic had this song ripped from youtube on it and I heard it and I remember resonating with the lyrics to such an extreme, cause throughout all the tribulations and pain my neurosis brought me, I knew in the end that all I wanted was to be happily married with my girlfriend at the time with a daughter. 13 years later, he would be stunned to know that I ran into her about half a year after graduated college, and that we would get married and have a beautiful child.
@yugen5 жыл бұрын
Damn. Forgot about this song. Last time I heard it my grandfather (my dad) was still alive. One of the last things he said was "Take care of your grandma and Susie (my girlfriend)." Gives more meaning to "on my father's grave" even though this song made me tear up before he was gone.
